Good job Frank .i love non poison ideas . ! idea i did when i built my home in 1999 i noticed huge amounts of spiders and ants . i live rural in a forested area .i turned my leaf blower up side down pointed into the attic ,and poured a cup of diatomaceous earth into it dusting the entire attic insulation after a week or 2 we noticed no more bugs in the house . im going to try your idea this spring we have stink bugs on and under our vinyl siding .on our garage .

if you cut a pair of panty hose or something similar and then slip it inside the vacuum hose and secure it with a rubber band then you have an easy way to dispose of them. A container of soapy water to knock them into works as well because one of their natural defenses is to just let go and fall. Haha I commented before he got to this part 7:28

Great suggestions! I would like to know how they survive for months and months inside the house, just hanging out without eating anything. In my upstairs room I don't use heaters in the winter during the day, then when I go up at night and warm it up, out they come from who knows where. The only good thing is that they are very easy to catch since they are so slow. My cat often points them out to me by staring intently at one I have not noticed. He won't try to catch them, probably does not like the smell either, but I can when he alerts me.

I like it room temp so I leave it on the counter, I always close the lid and I'm glad I did because there was a stink bug, the invasive species on the spout trying to get in or perhaps feeding on what was on the spout. I have a brand new screened in back deck and they keep flying onto the screens. Some have managed to get into the deck, I guess they squeeze in the screen corners. I’ve tried several of these tips and they didn’t work for me. Specifically: I put essential oils in a spray bottle and sprayed all over my screened deck; I put garlic in a spray bottle and sprayed screened deck when oils didn’t work. I put soap and water in spray bottle and again didn’t work. They don’t even fly away, just sit there getting wet. But I appreciate all the tips and will try some of the other things you mention like dryer sheets.

I am so thankful that the leaf-footed bugs, so far, haven't come inside. But they have laid many eggs on the north side of the house by the back kitchen window. I have to get them under control before the tomatoes grow and turn red. Besides them, I have to fight off the cardinals. Just before they turn red, the trees fill up with cardinals. I think they sit up in the trees and lick their lips, waiting. Thanks for the video. I found one where a guy make a trap for outside, and I thought it was you, but it was JRProductionsRGH. As soon as you mentioned using a sweeper, I thought to myself...he must not be able to smell them! Because as soon as you try to sweep them they stink up. I keep a bottle or jar half way up with isopropyl alcohol. I can either just put the opening over them if they are on the ceiling and they drop right in. If they're on the wall you can use the lid to help flick them in. I just leave it on the window sill ready to grab. It remains stink free for several months till you get it kinda full then it might reek a bit....just throw it away and get a new bottle or pickle jar.

Frank, Adams County, PA here. Live in the woods and get a fair amount. Finding 1-3 inside per day even in the winter. The lights are brightest in the kitchen. Have found them coming in through the chimney and have done my best to block. Your video was excellent but I honestly feel they can squeeze through tighter spaces when they really want to.(heat, breeding). My chimney is fairly well sealed but the chimney cap has small hole that I have to believe they are squeezing through. The idea of washing done the wall with Dawn sounds like a great idea. Every October they are all over the outside wall of the house that gets the most sun. I didn’t realize they leave the pheromones also. I use dawn inside with decent results so outside it being a deterrent and removal of pheromone scent sounds good. From other Sounds like Peppermint works well also. Thanks for the ideas and update.

Hi Rich Boyd ! Thanks for your observations and insightful and thoughtful share. I agree with you re: squeezing in. My test conditions had a smooth granite surface that lack traction so really has limited real world application. We have to wear bug netting in Upper Michigan in the spring, when the black flies come out. NOTHING works on them! We just have to wait for the dragonflies to hatch, approximately after 2-3 weeks. Our property abuts a wildlife refuge, and they have a lot of ponds. That equals lots of water for mosquito larva😢, but also for dragonflies. The girls and I always did a dragonfly ‘happy dance’ when we’d see that they were hatching and starting to fly around the yard, gobbling black flies and gnats up!😊

@@littledabwilldoya9717 I hear ya. It’s the wild and remote areas that seem to have swarming gnats. I’ve built several small frog ponds which attracts so much wildlife, including dragonflies which are so interesting and like you said, help to maintain balance. Bats are another critter that would help… their population has diminished a lot due to disease.

Over wintering insects enter a semi-resting hibernating state called diapause. Lower metabolism and no sexual development. Stink bugs feed on fresh green leaves and fruit during the summer. The sink bugs get drawn to the warm interior of your home and think spring has arrived!!! The interior of the house is really too warm and dry for them to survive the winter with out eating. No food in the house for them and they will eventually starve or dry out to death.

I don't use dryer sheets anymore but that got me thinking- I do use Lysol laundry sanitizer and it smells like a dryer sheet on steroids! I cut it with water (still very strong smell) and spray it around my windows & curtains. I read that garlic is a scent they hate but who wants that smell in the bedroom or bathroom. So I did an experiment for stink bugs and it works. I'd think liquid fabric softener would work also. Now my bedroom always smells like fresh clean laundry and I don't have to worry about any bugs dive bombing me in bed (shudder) Hope this helps someone

Is it true if you crush a stink bug it releases a scent that attracts more? You mentioned that they release a pheromone when they find a good hibernation place. Your other video describing their scent as strong cilantro is very accurate and I didn't think of that. I only could describe it as a melted plastic with an artificial lime scent.

Hi Lisa V. I am always fascinated by the interpretation of the odor by viewers. Weather crushing them attracts more or not is subject to debate. I have heard it both ways...some say it acts as a reppelent...other say it attracts. They are attracted to each other so...maybe dead ones to draw others in regardless. Very good question Lisa!

I am having this problem with not only Stink Bugs every year but also Lady Bugs !! I've never seen anything like it the lady bugs just start gathering in 2 particular rooms in our house and before you know it there are literally thousands of them hanging out up on the ceilings. I have no idea where they're coming from or how they're getting into the house or what they want ? I never had a problem with lady bugs in the past until this started happening and we have really high ceilings so it's not exactly easy to get to them. The last time they invaded I ended up duct taping a dust buster to the end of a long pole and i vacuumed them little by little off the ceiling until they were gone. And it's not winter time when they invade it's Summer time. So they can't be coming in to escape the cold. Do you have a video on massive groups of lady bugs ? I will mention that I live in an area that is surrounded by a lot of forest in Northern North Carolina near the Blue Ridge Mountains. Are lady bugs coming to my house from the forest ?

Hi! I found your videos while looking for something to help my brother to get over a phobia of stinkbugs. I really love the passion and enthusiasm you have for mundane, everyday wildlife, even pest species! It's super refreshing to see in this society where even many animal lovers harbor hatred towards certain insects- particularly things like stinkbugs, wasps, or mosquitoes that are seen as nuisance species. I've even seen people wholeheartedly calling for their extinction! Unbelievable!! I had no idea these guys were invasive here and that they're such a big agricultural problem- I'll definitely try to kill them whenever I find them from now on, instead of just leaving them be or letting them outside. I'll definitely be trying the dish soap methods in the future, since that seems to be the most humane method without them releasing their smell- I'm actually SO sensitive to it that I can't even taste or smell even the tiniest bit of cilantro anymore, it'll make me gag and retch! Thank you so much for making this video, I'll be sure to check out more and I'm looking forward to the content you put out in the future. The first winter in our current home saw an infestation of stinkers in our home. I knew nothing about them. After some online research I mixed water, dish soap, and white vinegar into a spray bottle. I sprayed the stinkers and they died quickly. WHY? The vinegar dissolved the waxy substance on their exoskeleton and they died from dehydration. But I still didn't know how they were getting into the house. Finally, I looked inside an obsolete incinerator and there they were. I now spray the inside of the incinerator with a vinegar mix. I also place a cottage cheese container with vinegar in the incinerator. The smell seems to keep them away. I have gone from hundreds of stinkers annually to around 2-3 dozen max. The vinegar smell works to keep them away.

This is my best stink bug solution. I keep empty jelly jars, or whatever I have on hand, in each room where they like to gather. I simply trap/collect them in there and put the lid on. Smashing, or spraying them causes them to release their horrid oder; thus, attracting more bugs. Once they suffocate and die, I empty the jars and reuse. I have a dedicated vacuum cleaner that I use just for them and keep that on the porch, since you can't get the smell out once you've vacuumed them. The keyboard spray works best when the can is held upside down, just a drop of the liquid will freeze them.

How long does a stink bug live? I mean the life span?

The summer generations live only a few months. The last generation of adults, leading into the fall, enter a psuedo-resting state called diapause..... when spring arrives they will feed again ..breed and die. so ...about 6 months.
