It was a nice idea, but they literally just said “male tapirs play no part in the raising of their offspring”. So keeping them apart is the natural thing. Sad, but that’s nature. Forcing an animal to be different to how they would be in the wild can be dangerous.

to love animals its not only help them wen sick or admired them, it's also come with respecting what they are, human morals have nothing to do with nature affairs, but all animals view the world in they unique way and like animals we are we see this and feel like is wrong....but by reason and love to the living we have to respect how they work , not force the opposite because it fits with our view

It's only sad because humans feel like happy animals are when the baby is with mom and dad but thats not the case. You look at the ostriches(a ratitite like rhea, emu,moa which are excellent single dads) penguins , seahorses (actually give birth and raise young) and marmosets the males do almost all the rearing.

In the wild tapirs usually live in small grazing "herds", so albeit the fathers don't help the females raise their calfs, getting them used to living together *is* natural. In the long run, it is more healthy for all of these tapirs to be able to live among other tapirs than it isn't. The breeders of the zoo aren't trying to make them a "family unity" like humans, as a lot of people pointed out, they are helping those three adapt to live in a group for their own benefit. Sometimes it is best to have this introduction early so the animals can feel more comfortable in a group, but again like the video pointed out, both parents are first timers and not used to it, especially the male.

For all the people who think it's unnatural and "forcing human traits on animals" to place these animals together...it isn't. Yes, in the wild the mother raises the baby on her own. That does not mean she will not encounter her mate(s) or other tapir. Male and female tapir often have intersecting territories and, like any animal, both environment and individual personality plays a part. Whilst tapir are mostly solitary they do graze together in groups called candles in the wild and communicate with each other using scent and sound (as their eyesight is very poor). Separating two animals used to each other's companionship can have a detrimental effect on their health and isn't ideal for the animal. Hence the second (successful) attempt at reintroduction. The male was simply inexperienced and overly excited. It happens and not just with solitary species. Horses, cattle, elephants...there are many examples of individual males from highly social species that have injured or killed their own offspring in both the wild and captivity. It's simply part of nature.

Sometimes animals can be conditioned to have a lifestyle (like living in herds) that couldn't occur in nature. You surely has seen those videos in which 4-5 pandas live together in the same enclosure despite the species being solitary creatures. Is a trait learn from captivity.

You can see how the narrative and music track hides the fact they're projecting nuclear family values HARD onto these animals over and over again even when it's dangerous and they just giggle it off like 'looks like dads going to be in the doghouse for a bit longer, sorry about that daddy but you can't be so snappy'! 😊. Why do you try so hard to project your cheeky family play onto the animals when you know that they are animals that don't have the family dynamics that you want them to for some reason. No, it's a Malayan Tapir, they are from South East Asia. There are other species of Tapir that live in Central America & South American. The Malaysia Tapir is an Endangered species with estimated to be about 3,000 left in the wild.

I wonder if it was due to space constraints. Like if they don't have the room to keep everyone separate for the whole time, they'd have to make then get along or else keep the Dad in a smaller space for a while. Could also be concerned that if they introduced him to the calf as an adult he wouldn't treat it as his kid, but as a potential rival/mate. Just my guess, but I wondered that too.
