Good review and much appreciated. Have been toying with which tent to take on a canoeing exped with Simon (ABITWs) etc in Aug. I have the CP2 but unopened. I think you’ve swung it as I’ll need a space for escaping the midge swarms for extended periods so need an area to read etc. Cheers.

Great review! I've seen a few videos reviewing and using these. It does look like an awesome tent, and I'm tempted 😬It's just the weight of it that's holding me back. I have a Cloud Up 2 that I love but it's only really suitable for 3 season use. I'll keep searching for a bit then probably end up buying one anyway 😆
@BackpackingUK
@BackpackingUK 3 жыл бұрын
I love my Cloud Up 1 but I wouldn't want to get stuck in it if it was raining all evening. This is completely different. Although maybe not a true 4 season tent it's definitely a 3+ or 3-4 season tent. 2.5kg isn't too bad considering the size and weather protection. More Protection = More Weight, just look at Hillebergs. I can't really talk about weight anyway because I usually carry a load of beers with me 😂 I love this tent though and would definitely recommend it 👍

I think the Cloud Peak 2 is better and I think it’s worth paying the extra. Personally, I prefer free-standing tents. They’re easier to pitch and you can move them around if you not 100% happy with the exact location. The Cloud Peak 2 has 2 doors and 2 vestibules too plus it’s about 0.5kg lighter. It’s not as weather proof, but I’d still say it’s a 3+ season tent.

I asked this question again from the author of this channel and he replied that the poles are 8.5 mm on his caliper. The main difference is the price though. Yes, there are lots of other differences but by far the price is eye-wateringly different. Just so you know, my dream tents are the Soulo and Allak 2 so I’m a massive fan of Hilleberg. Their tents are far more superior in every way (and weigh much more for it!). Does anyone know the actual (not guessed) diameter of the poles? One blog claimed they are only 7mm, which is ridiculously thin for a tent like this. If anything I would suspect they might be the standard 7.9mm (which is still thin), but I know people are upgrading to after market 8.5mm or 9.5mm poles. Thanks.

Good review mate I'm hopefully getting one next month, just a couple of questions about what you mention to what I've seen in other reviews, you mention the spare pegs and guy ropes, are these actually spare as to me they just look like the supplied guy ropes and pegs that you need and get with any tent or is this another set on top of the ones supplied ? And lastly probably more a observation than question but you mention it being a 4 season tent, it maybe marketed as that but it's strictly not it's more a 3 season tent, a true 4 season tent wouldn't have all that mesh on the inner and the outer fly would reach all the way to the ground , but depending on where your camping and what the conditions and temps are like you could definitely use it all year round here in the uk, sounds like I'm criticising lol but honest I'm not, think your vids are great and very informative I even went and bought the eurohike 65 backpack after watching your vid and for 20 quid it's a bargain, it's ideal for a overnighter and as a day bag which is mainly what I use it for, anyway I'm going off on a tangent and rambling on (No pun intended lol) so thanks for the vids and keep em coming 👍😉
@BackpackingUK
@BackpackingUK 3 жыл бұрын
It’s definitely a 3-4 season or 3+ season tent. Never a strict 4 season. However, I think the fly comes down pretty low to the ground and the solid mesh does go quite high. Problem with a proper 4 season tent is that they can become just a winter tent because of the poor ventilation and condensation. I could of jumped on the same bandwagon as other reviews, but I didn’t think it was fair really. It’s a super tent! Just got to be realistic for the price, it’s never ever going to compete with a Allak 2.

@@BackpackingUK No it is not. Went tenting yesterday, started to really annoy me actually. When there's no zip in the bottom, you have to open the door pretty wide or you need to climb over the bottom part. If there was a bottom zip, you could just open that and some of the side, you could crawl out.

The door zip is similar to the Star River's one. To me, it is an improvement as there is no gap at the junction of the zippers. I left some snacks inside and in the morning there was a "colony" of ants that came through that tinny gap - with the new version that's not a problem anymore. There is also the improvement with the clips which fix the poles more sturdy. The con of the new version (2021) is really tinny pegs which are useless for the "soft" ground terrain. The ropes of the new version are also very tiny and stealth - not visible in the dark. I have compared the material and the older version is with the nicer-smooth touch - it seems like a different material, I am not even sure it is nylon... need to ask the expert in case it is polyester (it is "original" bought from Naturehike store).

enyone who compares this to a Hillaberg Allak in terms of quality needs their head examined , they are roughly the same shape and have three poles and that's it quality and strengthwise they are worlds apart, nature hike tents represent top bang for your buck , I spent a night above paterdale in a full on gale in a nature hike single poled Targa 2 and a second night on a camp site where five tents were destroyed trees and power lines brought down again the Targa 2 survived without a scratch so nature hike tents are well built indeed I have just bought a cloud peak 2 but they are no Hilleburg

People don't understand the differences between the two and therefore many Hilleberg owners think everything else is rubbish, and likewise if you own a budget brand tent, Hilleberg's are overrated and a rip off. I try and help people understand both ways.

Most of the ‘top class’ tents are just sold on the same basis as expensive cars, it is an ’aspiration’. No problem if you have the money, but most people don’t. I have hiked and camped for 50 years and owned many different tents, and as long as you avoid the obvious rubbish ones, I have never found any difference between them. It has more to do with how carefully you pitch them. Indeed I was camping over 35 yrs ago in Cornwall and a storm struck. Nearly all the tents on site were destroyed, and a caravan on its side (no one in). My tent was perfectly OK and we went on to camp for another week along the south coast of Cornwall.

£151 from Collins Outdoors: collinsoutdoors.com/collections/naturehike-tents/products/naturehike-cloud-peak-2?ref=8Y74Q7Nt9qD1i Word of warning. I think I got very lucky buying from AliExpress as I know some people who were not so fortunate. If you do decide to buy from them you will be charged VAT on top and then, if you pay over £135, you will be charged UK Duty and then the courier (DHL / FedEx / etc) will charge you a £15-£20 admin fee. It may also take some time for the parcel to arrive. If you want to avoid this, I would suggest buying from Camperlists, at least the price you see is the price you will pay.
