I have a pile of bags I have used over the years, I switch them up when I get inspired to use a smaller sketchbook or something. I think I get as much fun outfitting a field sketchbag as I do painting! haha

I have a similar kit. I carry a kavu bag; I find it comfortable to walk\hike with. I bought a small clip board from a discount store and use it upside down. I position my journal in the bottom clip and like you, clip my palette and small water containers at the top. It’s just right to hold with one hand! I also wear a small fanny pack and keep a few brushes and pencils in that. I like the accessibility and convenience of keeping them there. Thanks for sharing your set up. I always get inspired and new ideas from seeing others’ set up!

That sounds like great solution, thanks for sharing! Fanny packs are great, I use one too all the time, if I don't bring this bag.

Love it! Yes, the search for the optimal bag is something I’ve found quite interesting over the years. Within the last 10 years, I have favored various Lug bags for their clever organization, light weight, and ability to easily wipe them off. I pack a small, minimal sketch kit in a Lug Coupe (which can also be worn as a waist pouch). The two larger lug bags I currently switch between, depending on where I’m going, is a Lug Compass, and a Lug Shimmy which have useful zippered pockets inside and out, including a clear zippered compartment inside, and a hidden water bottle holder on the outside! Edited: and I totally forgot about my Lug Sidekick Excursion bag for when I go hiking! This one also has a hidden water bottle pocket and several great pockets and compartments. I like bags with lots of built in organization. This way I don’t need the extra weight of separate pen cases, etc.

Thank you for sharing. I love seeing other people's plein air kits. I have several different kits that I use depending on the weather and location. I live in southern US and heat is an issue. I have a set up for heat that uses lots of pockets, water bottle and sketchbooks on shoulder straps. I also have some pouches I clip on that will either carry water-soluble colored ink in fountain pens or a mini watercolor palette. Use waterbrushes and rags with that set up. If it's cool enough, I have a small backpack set up. It's always ready to go.. ONE THING THAT I CARRY THAT YOU MIGHT THINK ABOUT IS A WHISTLE. I also have a used jogging stroller that I bring to several outdoor locations. I can carry a lot of stuff in that. I have a few different ways of using the shade/canopy as support for watercolor. If I'm not using waterbrushes, I bring a container for dirty water also, One thing that I picked up from your channel is the Faber-Castell Perfect Pencil. Love them. Thank you.

I use the art toolkit by expeditionary artist. Kept in my everyday purse. This bag looks practical for a bit longer outing or while hiking. Thank you for your videos and sharing your art and journey. 🤗

Your creativity with your art bag inspired me! However, surely there is another bag with lunch. :-)

Thank you for some good ideas. I’m currently trying to create a sketch bag with a Swedish school book bag. I’m attaching some straps for a lightweight camp stool because I’m not sitting on the ground :)

Hello Julia, love your Jack Wolf Bag and alot of your supplies. Want to ck out and purchase of them. Love your handmade sketchbook too. Like you said you can choose your own papers then, I like a variety of different papers. I carry a smaller size bookbag with different carrying cases inside yo carrythings. A wooden slide open for pencils, zippy small totes for other supplies. Paint, palette masonite board with clips and watercolor pad. I do bigger paintings but would like to do sketchbook paintings, haven't done that since college days and would like to start again with everything on a smaller scale. And there is always the issue of bugs and mosquitos. Ugh!!

Very practical kit! I'm glad you talked about how you dispose of your waste water, not many artists mention this and I often wonder how they handle that issue. Thank you!! Happy summer! 🌞

You're welcome! I always try to take dirty water with me, even if it's not a lot of pigment I can't just dump it in the same places where I paint.

Aufgrund von Nacken und Schulterproblemen ist für mich eine Crossover Tasche in der Größe/Gewicht nicht möglich auf längeren Natur Walks … daher bei mir der klassische Kanken Rucksack. 😁
@NatureSketchbook Жыл бұрын
Den nutze ich inzwischen auch meistens, gibt dafür auch noch so Schulterpolster, damit die Gurte nicht so einschneiden. :) Die Tasche nehm ich nur noch für ganz kurze Spaziergänge mit. :)

Does anyone have any idea where to find this magnetic brush holder, it really is an incredible tool. I have searched and can't find it.... Thank you for sharing your kit, I found it really useful!
@NatureSketchbook2 жыл бұрын
Hi Fauno, I remember the holder thingy was given to me by a brush company as an extra with an order, however I glued on the magnet myself. After using it a lot for a few weeks I've removed it from my kit since it takes up space on the palette that I prefer to have for mixing colors!
