I'm sorry Shawn but you are misinformed. I'm not sure how the school is run in Portland or when your friend went to school in Portland, but everything we learn at Bastyr revolves around EBM. There is no "emotional medicine" - what I think you're referring to is called Reiki and if the schools were based on that then I wouldn't be wasting my time there. I would say the closest to using our emotions is when we are engaging with patient's to form a healthy patient-physician bond, and listening to our intuition when we feel like something is off which is what EVERY physician no matter if they are ND, DO, or MD should be doing. As for the S. Korean culture, yes they are very advanced scientifically but they also embrace traditional medicine (e.g. acupuncture). If individuals want to try an alternative medicine then let them, especially those who have tried everything and only found improvement with naturopathic medicine.
@qonitabadegestm6 жыл бұрын
u r seriously misinformed. a lot of people die from pharmaceutical "medicine" a lot r killed in the hands of medical "doctors". Cancer kills very few if any people chemo debilitates 100% of patients and kill many. These "NDs" are REAL doctors they should not even have that "N" before that title i. f. ! You are scary and I feel bad for your friend.

Beardossa Turbman so when you go to the doctor they ask you what does your diet consist of meaning what do you eat. What are your habits etc?? No they don't. They throw you medicine. All of these questions they are supposed to ask determines who you are not just what medicine you take. Bc some food interacts with medicine to. bc the old saying is You are what you eat says Hippocrates. Nature is your food. Nature is your health. Eating according to your blood type is important. MDs never ask you any of this question. Why because they treat you and not cure you. To be cured you have to learn the core main cause of your issues the whole picture not just what is on the surface. That's why MDs throw you medicine and you have to take them for a long time aka refills on prescriptions. Basically you are born in nature you must eat from nature and you will die in nature. The Whole person will include your spirtual self bc nature is spirtual and so are you. Thanks

@@feefees9796 I am MD in Internal Medicine and we ask about lifestyle habits that include exercise and diet - its a fairly routine question; everywhere I rotated through in med school that was also the norm.

So you have to have a bachelor's degree of some sort to get into a school? I dont have a bachelor's degree. I'm very interested in this because I was diagnosed with chronic lyme disease and the only thing that healed me was alternative medicine. So I'd have to go to school for a total of 8 years?
@TalkNaturalToMe4 жыл бұрын
Hi Madi! Yes for any of the accredited naturopathic medical schools in North America you need to have at least a bachelor's degree along with the completed pre-requisite courses 😕Another option to consider if you don't want to go back to school is becoming a certified functional health coach. IFM has a great program: functionalmedicinecoaching.org/ . The scope of practice obviously differs from a naturopathic doctor but you can still help others by focusing on the root cause and guiding them through lifestyle changes, etc.!

I’m deciding between Bastyr in Kenmore and NUNM, but I have a year left of my B.S. in Psychology and am wanting to switch if it’s not too late to finish my degree within the medicine certification! I live in Portland already and do my courses online, so I can’t add on any additional that are outside of my degree unfortunately. Should I talk to an academic advisor about my options and see if I still have a chance of transferring into the undergrad program? Or will I have to start over 😅
@TalkNaturalToMe5 жыл бұрын
Hi Morgan! Hmm...how many pre-requisite courses have you completed so far? I think a degree in psychology is amazing and will be fine for the ND program. I would talk to your academic advisor and see if there's any way for you to complete the pre-reqs without having to change your whole degree! If you want to talk more about it shoot me a message on IG and I'd be more than happy to discuss your situation 😘

Your channel is soooo helpful! Im reading that Nasty wants a broad background in humanities and Im wondering if that means a language or more specifically humanities classes? Someone please help!
@TalkNaturalToMe6 жыл бұрын
Hi Whitney! I think what Bastyr is trying to say (IMO) is that they recommend being well-rounded in your studies before applying to Bastyr. From what I understand humanities is basically the study of people and includes history, music, art, language, philosophy, religion/spirituality, and literature. As future practitioners we have to be open-minded and aware that not everyone may believe in the same things and may have different cultural/religious practices. Don't worry about going out of your way to take humanities classes. If something really resonates with you or interests you, like a language class or philosophy class, then go for it.

how many years does it take to become a naturopathic dr?

I graduated bachelor majoring in humanities and sciences, but I would like to study naturopathic medicine. How should I start?
@TalkNaturalToMe6 жыл бұрын
I would start by checking the pre-requisite courses for each accredited naturopathic med school (pre-requisite courses are classes that need to be taken before applying to ND school) and see which classes you have taken and which classes you still need to take. Here's a link to the various accredited ND schools and what is required for admission: aanmc.org/naturopathic-schools/academic-prerequisites/

I live in NY, and I am very interested in becoming a naturopath. But I am curious how you would go about specializing in something, more school I’m assuming? I don’t have a bachelors yet so need to get that first. I’m curious if CCNM would recognize all of that because I’m in NY. Do you know if I got my degree there how I would practice in the states? Sorry, these are super basic questions but I am interested and basically know nothing about college 😂
@TalkNaturalToMe4 жыл бұрын
Hi Anna! Yes, if you went to CCNM you would be able to practice in the U.S. And to specialize we have two board-certification exams (one for oncology and one for homeopathy). Otherwise the best thing you can do is attend additional trainings, conferences, etc. in your field of interest. 😊

Can naturopathic doctors specialize in dermatology? Because I’ve always wanted to be a dermatologist but I prefer naturopathic over allopathic.
@TalkNaturalToMe Жыл бұрын
Hi Mary! Technically there is no board certification for dermatology in naturopathic medicine. However, there are many naturopathic doctors who focus on derm. 😊

Love how clearly you lay out the pre-reqs. Do you know if there are degrees in naturopathy or something similar you can get into without a strong background in chemistry? I got my bachelor's in environmental science 6 years ago but tbh I suffered through the algebra and 2 semesters of inorganic chemistry and barely got through those courses. I am interested in health and natural healing but more humanities minded rather than verry technical.

For your undergrad, which chemistry classes did you take that fulfilled the prerequisites? What if I take a Survey of General Chemistry course instead of regular General Chemistry?
@TalkNaturalToMe4 жыл бұрын
Hi there. A survey of general chemistry will not suffice. You need to do a chemistry course with a lab component. I took General chemistry with lab (2 semesters), Biochemistry (1 semester), and Organic chemistry with labs (2 semesters).

Hi I was wondering if you recommend any particular bachelors degree or classes to prepare for naturopathic school? 🤓
@TalkNaturalToMe6 жыл бұрын
Hi Victoria! There isn't a particular bachelor's degree I recommend...I say major in whatever you have an interest in! Just complete the pre-reqs for whichever ND school you would like to apply to. Besides the pre-reqs, I HIGHLY recommend taking biochemistry as one of your chem pre-reqs (it will make first year a lot easier). I also think genetics, microbiology, and anatomy/physiology are classes that would be good to take in undergrad as well.
