Exocet missiles are battle proven and renowned for being accurate and practically impossible to counter against. Once it's launched it hits!! In the Falklands war it was a nightmare for UK 🇬🇧 , it destroyed multiple ships. Iraq war vs Iran, the Iraqis used it and destroyed irans ships and infrastructure. European Union 🇪🇺 is closley monitoring Philippines 🇵🇭. We have business with China but if the Philippines sovereignty and integrity is treathened rest assure the exocet will be 1 of many technologies that will be given to Philippines 🇵🇭.

What is the rationale and the benefit behind shortening the missile compared with the surface-surface model? From what I get even the MM40 is still significantly smaller than a MdCN , which fits just fine in the same sort of phase change capsule, and into the ammo berths aboard the submarine. I understand the expected use it as a defenive short-ish range system, but woulnd't it be better to have the option to launch them at targets further away when the sub wants to?

Because the solid fuel propulsion take more space. So, it's shorter. And why not take all the spare place ? Probably because they wanted it to be within the same weight limits. It basically goes as far as the Harpoon, Harpoon goes a little furthe because it is slower, while the Exocet is a little faster. Same things with the MdCN vs Tomahawk.

Pienso que un misil con un alcance de 120 kms no es una arma de auto defensa del submarino. Porque enviar a un helo a esa distancia para destruir un submarino es mejor evadir el contacto.

Stephan asserts that the missile is designed for the next 30 years, but I wonder if the detection part of ASW will increasingly become the domain of semi-attritable drones saturating the ocean hotspots in the next couple of decades.

Careful, itar free doesn’t mean us component free. If the us put more spares into the itar list they become a problem so france avoid any us parts but that’s not always the case. France hade issues selling the scalp/storm shadow to Egypt due to a simple component just integrated into itar. Nothing special about it just cheaper since france has managed to deal with the us. The truth is that france can do itar free but us free is complicated as stated by the dga.

Hello, SM40 is not the full exocet offensive version, in the video, the MBDA seller repeats that's the mini-exocet, a defensive anti-ship missile (probably with reduced cost). They simply are not the same kind of missile, SM40 is a mini missile that is launch within a torpedo tube! So it does not require dedicated missile launch tubes on the submarine. full sized exocet as well than ATMACA requires dedicated launch tubes! Additionally, according to rocketsan (the manufacturer): "Developed to meet the operational needs of surface warfare, ATMACA is a high-precision anti-ship missile that can be integrated into assault boats, frigates and corvettes." (they do no speak about the sub-launched version on the main page) and after a short search, it seems that the sub launched version oh ATMACA is still in very early phase, maybe the dev does not even started for now, and so we don't know what kind of performance it will have. Full range exocet (MM40) are also a 200km+ class missile with the block 3 variant and newer since 2007/2008.

And? Türkiye has always been Europe's mortal enemy, so sooner or later we will know who is better than the other. At least Exocet has experience in combat and was even consulted by China to design their YJ-82 in 80s and 90s

a range of 120 km, is way to short, at least 2 times the distance is needed to attack a wel defended target, The Netherlands has bought 4 french subs, but we want a US long range anti ship missile, but the US doesn't want to share the technical details of the cruise missle with France, so we are fucked....

False. Both France and the US have both short and long range missiles, alongside torpedo's. It is just that a long range missile will be much slower and easier to intercept. The sub commander will have to decide when to get close and use a short range weapon, or when to use a less reliable long range weapon, but stay safer.
