As a logistics geek, I find this ship to be quite beautiful. It's interesting to see the progression of installed, defensive armaments on support vessels like this over the recent years, which is both logical and overdue given the environment they will be required to operate in and the fact that opponent forces will likely consider replenishment vessels to be high-priority targets.

Well, let's not forget that one of the previous french supply ships, which also doubles as a C&C ship, was accidentally mistaken for a civilian freighter by some Somali pirates in one of their worst oopsies...

I was wondering too who was Jacques Chevallier. So, he is a graduate from X, he was one of the main guys who developed the nuclear propulsion engines on the French nuclear submarines.

I would have thought that it would would be more efficient to transport dry goods containerized instead of palletized. Then you could use a lot of civilian heavy lift infrastructure to support your logistics chain.

although unrelated to this video, but couldn't help saying . . . the EDA-R multi mission amphibious catamaran landing craft suits best when paired with Mobile Expeditionary Support Ships, but not LHA or LHDs though . . . infact the EDA-R multi mission amphibious catamaran landing craft can be more versatile if it can be transported on large bow/stern loading LST . . . new built EDA-R multi mission amphibious catamaran landing craft could be powered by new cutting edge Na-FuelCell™ HYBRId® M-EP system, instead of the old oil burner power pack . . . an increase in length, beam & draft of the EDA-R multi mission amphibious catamaran landing craft will liberate more usable payload capacity . . .

@@CriscCiadduI understand what you meant now so to be more precise : A temporary consortium of Chantiers de l’Atlantique and Naval Group received a contract to build four supply vessels in January 2019. First steel was cut for the lead vessel, Jacques Chevallier, at Fincantieri’s Castellammare di Stabia naval shipyard in Italy in May 2020. The keel-laying ceremony followed in February 2021. The forward section of Jacques Chevallier was delivered to Chantiers de l’Atlantique at the Castellammare di Stabia shipyard, Naples, in November 2021. Chantiers de l’Atlantique awarded a contract to Damen Marine Components (DMC) for supplying rudders and steering gear systems for the LSS vessels in January 2021. ALMACO secured a contract for the delivery and installation of cold stores, galleys and laundry areas in January 2021. In September 2020, Naval Group selected iXblue to supply navigation systems for the four French Navy future vessels. Fincantieri was selected by Chantiers de l’Atlantique (CdA) for building the forward sections of the French LSS vessels in October 2019. The sections will be delivered between 2021 and 2027. GE Power Conversion received a contract from Chantiers de l’Atlantique to provide propulsion systems for the four LSS vessels in 2020. The first MV7000 drives for the project passed their factory acceptance tests at GE Power Conversion’s factory in Nancy, France, in November 2021.

@lucaiervasi8515 Жыл бұрын
Fincantieri at the request of the Italian Navy began the development of a new class of LSS in 2014. In 2016 the Vulcano class took shape. in 2018 france joined the project through the OCCAR programme. (the same one that gave life to the fremm class) as was the case on the frigates of the fremm class, after developing the class, the two countries customized the lss to adapt them to the needs of their respective navies. as a result it has become a joint Italian-French project.
