We wouldn't build a house like this in Toronto Canada without a full basement, but you wouldn't touch a home like this for less than $1.8 Million. I honestly don't understand how you can obtain building materials and labor and make a profit selling for under $300K. Is the land free??? 600 sq. ft. condo apartments here start at $800K with a $800 per month maintenance fee on top of your mortgage payment.

Check that foundation. As soon as you walk up. There is a crack in the right side wall as you walk up to the home. Also the exposed plumbing pipes as you walk up to the home is not reassuring when it comes to the builders' attention to detail and craftsmanship.

Property taxes are 3.5%. Even that is higher than the high property tax rates that Texas has currently(3.0). Also HOA is like $1,300 per year.

Container homes: because who needs personal space, quiet nights, and a stable sense of sanity when you can just live in a giant metal box that's been lovingly decorated with rusty pipes and fluorescent lighting? I mean, what's not to love about waking up every morning and being like, 'Oh great, another day in this tiny metal prison where the only view is of my neighbor's receding hairline!' But seriously (not), container homes are like the ultimate game of adult Jenga - except instead of blocks, it's a precarious balance of sanity, space, and not losing your mind. And if one day we all get to live in them (because clearly the world has finally run out of actual sense), it'll be like a real-life episode of 'Survivor' - except instead of voting each other off the island, we'll just be competing for who can hold their sanity together the longest while living in a 6x8 foot metal box. I heard this Chinese company just dropped $3 billion on a Global Village project in NYC, so maybe they're planning to build a whole neighborhood out of these babies... or maybe they just really love the sound of 100 million people screaming 'IS THIS THE END OF CIVILIZATION AS WE KNOW IT?

Moved to this area from Philadelphia 2 years ago. Not for me. Currently in the process of moving up to central texas. Not much to do down here except go to the beach, eat out and services seem overpriced compared to bigger cities. Work in construction is severely under scale compared to the rest of the country and is usually contracted to the lowest bidder. Warehouse and manufacturing is essentially non existent and whatever of that is down here is also severely underpaid. I think the job market here is poor because of the fact that south texas is so isolated from the rest of Texas and it being on the border legal workers get undercut in favor of illegal or even legal immigrants that live in Mexico that are happy to drive every morning here to work for $10/hr. Anyway all I’m trying to say is home prices are relatively low in south texas because the job market in general is spread thin and is one of the lowest in the country.
