Bro I saw you play with Animosity at a small legion hall in CT back in 06’ or 07’ ....shit was fucking EPIC but the crowd was mostly hxc so they didn’t know the deal...was standing like 5 feet away on the side of your kit, couldn’t believe your precision and how relaxed you were while blasting...props forever and man watching this vid now in 2018 you are way tighter and more insane than ever...RESPECT!

how are you getting that "clicky" sound with your bass drum with out a trigger? im trying to get that click sound on my bass drum as well
@perpetualgrimace7 жыл бұрын
Using an Audix D6 will go a long way toward getting you a similar sound. I knew that mic was used before I looked at the description. Plastic beaters will make the drum itself more clicky.
@combatwombatt7 жыл бұрын
mAtt drmmer he uses quite a small bass drum. Check into getting like an 18 or 20. I'm pretty sure Rudy switched to a 20 for some time
@combatwombatt7 жыл бұрын
mAtt drmmer 18 is pushing it tho lol id really hone down on a 20 and find a sweet spot
@kchez55865 жыл бұрын
Matt - I've gotten something similar with an Evans E-Mad2 on a 24x16, with no dampening (blankets or pillows) for the low end and a modified Danmar click pad (kinda the same material that fiber drum cases are made from) and wooden beaters for the click. Definitely has a different feel though & you don't want to bury the beater with that set up or it will sound sloppy. Covering the hard part of the disc with a black Evans Bass drum patch will improve the feel, but you'll lose some of the click.

What do you use to get your bass drum sounding like that?
@AlexNourse525 жыл бұрын
Probably triggers. There is triggers setting tutorials everywhere on KZbin. I am a bit late but just letting you know if you didn't figure it out in 2 years since you commented.
@mrwhite6045 жыл бұрын
@@AlexNourse52 "100% unedited acoustic drums. No triggers or sound replacement" is in the intro and description. Probably just really nicely tuned brand new skins and meticulous mic placement.
@AlexNourse525 жыл бұрын
@@mrwhite604 yes probably, it sounds very "clicky" though. But there is ways to do that.
@mrwhite6045 жыл бұрын
@@AlexNourse52 Yea actually its all in the tech list. The smaller 18" diameter shell, the dampening skin, and the mic. All makes for a real nice tight sound. The more I look in to this video and setup, the more impressive the drum kit tone really is.
@TunnelJumper4 жыл бұрын
The mic does a lot and in this case, it's a D6. I did see a demo a while back of the Miktek PM11 and it's the only mic I've heard that sounded better to me than the D6 for this type of application. Other than what's already been suggested, a cool trick for getting a similar sound to this is cutting out a big triangular piece from an old batter and duct taping it in the center of a new batter (I'm pretty sure I saw this on an old video of Inferno with Behemoth). Mind you when I did this, I'd been sold the wrong head by a guy who had no idea what he was talking about and had no choice. My usual go-to heads are clear powerstrokes and black suede emperors which give tons of click. This guy sold me a single ply EMAD. No amount of muffling or EQing with my D6 or 91a could get my 20x20 Saturn kick to sound anything but like a boomy Bonham kick. So I tried adding a "second ply" and it changed the sound completely. I only wonder what it would sound like on one of my regular go-to heads!

you're a very good player, I have some constructive criticism to bring you to the next level :) if you switch you dynamic range up where you are playing your Drums louder and your cymbals at lower volume (similar to a mix) it translates better to the average listener. ie look at top pros and their main articulation is though the Drums themselves especially kick and snare and cymbals act as cues for musical changes in the melody. I hope that is a clear explanation of the concept. keep it up you're playing really well!
