Being from Liverpool I know some of the longstanding local jokes (and the Liverpool sense of humour) . There's a suburb right out on the edge of the city called Speke. Originally it was a small village with the Elizabethan Speke Hall (now owned by The National Trust). It has a vast council estate, industrial estates and the city's airport. This chap was in the city centre and wanted to go to Speke but wasn't sure which bus to get. A bus arrived at the stop so he asked the driver: "Eh mate, is this bus going to Speke." The driver said: "I doubt it." The man was puzzled: "What do you mean?" The driver replied: "Well it's not said a word all day."
@RichieBedfellows Жыл бұрын
As a fellow Scouser, I find our sense of humour can go straight over the head. Ive just been on a political thing where the tory blogger Henry Hill was being interviewed. One fella on the comments said 'Henry Hill is just corrupt', so I responded with 'Well he did say ever since he was a kid he always wanted to be a gangster'...... Whooosh! Straight over his head. He came back with some stuff about how he couldn't speak about his past but he's defo bent now.

Just word of advice from experience, the process itself is not difficult, just rather long, and it's easy to panic and feel like exhausted. Thank you for loving my city. Liverpool has everything anyone would ever need. Multicultural and multi denominational. WE are Liverpool! Enjoy your stay here, we are the friendliest city. There are many restaurants open later than 7 30. The problem is keeping staff to enable long opening times and paying the staff since Covid many have closed..the cost is the reason...many have closed.

Congrats on the move and the pending homeownership! I can really relate - I’m from Toronto, which is almost as expensive as London. Property prices are absolutely insane nowadays. My partner and will be moving to Calgary next year to do what you’ve done: finally be able to buy a home and start feeling more secure in our housing and finances. Congrats on finally escaping landlord hell, lmao. I wish you all the best :) Once you’ve established yourself in a city it can be really painful moving away from your friends, your favourite spots, your routine, etc. but it’s also so fun to experience a new adventure and make new favourites and friends!

I think the problems with restaurants etc at the moment is a shortage of staff. When lockdown happened, many staff moved into supermarket delivery etc. More by necessity than anything, but I suspect wages and conditions are better, and contracts more flexible. Similarly, bus drivers are leaving and moving into heavy goods vehicle driving, and I can't really blame them.

You're right about UNESCO. The project that led them to their decision was Everton Football Club renovating an abandoned dock into a new stadium. A move that will completely change that end of the city and be worth billions to the local economy. The club have also preserved the culturally significant landmarks and are working them into the stadium design, aswell as designing the new stadium to be inkeeping with the architectural history of the area. Seemed like a really unfair decision by UNESCO

The stadium wasn’t the reason, that’s in an industrial part of north Liverpool It’s the skyscrapers built closer to the liver building etc that changed the landscape
