Man I'm always amazed by how you not just get the drums so clean and punchy and snappy as the original producers in your renditions but also the live feel when it comes to Just Blaze in your renditions. Because he usually does it live with pads and keys and actual drums. And also I would love to see how you sample and chop stuff up in serato to do these renditions. Because it seems easier than what I do.

I flipped superstar by Luther Vandross, near the end of the song when he pours his heart out. The live rendition has thinner drums (much easier to filter out and layer over) and more of a room presence with the occasional cheer from the crowd which added a lovely texture to my beat. The quality is a little bit diminished compared to the album version but that's a tiny price to pay for that extra seasoning😉

This is an idea that I've been thinking about implementing in my beats. I was really curious when you listed vinyl and the internet before you revealed the tip. You can sample live renditions from either one of those sources but its definitely an interesting concept and it makes for a unique sound in your beats.

An amazing one is Ab Souls - Do Better, That samples the live recording of Green Twins by Nick Hakim. The live version is just his vocal and an electric guitar with light reverb, chorus and delay pedal I think. When the album version has multiple synths and textures that are very busy

I sample live versions all the time...i flipped a marvin gaye sample back in 2005...the same sample kanye used for spaceship but i used the live version but chopped it to standard instead of 1/8th and a 3rd like kanyes. When the crowd ambience occasionally comes in its dope...food for thought...kanye only did the loops he hired a drummer to live play over it because he said hes not a drummer. He then just replaced some of the drum sounds with his own he felt mixed. Im guessing the drummer hired used an electric drum set.and maybe the reason the drums on the track are a little high pitched to match the notes of the sample. With that said college drop out is a big reason i bought a mpc2000xl back in 2004. As far as the topic live versions of songs(especially modern like the lady gaga example) are easier is because they use less instruments usually soloing in piano or guitar and not amplified bass, synth and drums including vocals like like the album versions
