@@ChuckBarron maybe so someone doesn't cut into a gas pipe thinking it's a water pipe.
@ChuckBarron5 жыл бұрын
never thought of that....its a long shot but anything is possible. we all know old galv pipe is dark grey for sure. but still possible....just like black pipe may be a heat line...always trace out your pipes apprentices...ha

Nice work Chuck! I've been watching vids on HE boilers last few weeks. I love the technology but since most parts inside units need to be ordered when they go bad I'm not sure I would own one. I'm sure before long it won't be as much an issue as now. Thanks for sharing!

Difference between glavernized versus black pipe for gas supply line -- Please help,, As older type of buildings had galvanized in larger diameter for drainage, such as 1 1/2 & above,, Additionally occasionally,, galvanized supply lines , for toilet supply lines , in four story walk ups. Was always steered towards black pipe, is there a code difference, or why the preference. We have Always used Pipe Dope. Second question,, went to viega megapress seminar, and they stated only 5 year warranty on their fittings.
@ChuckBarron5 жыл бұрын
We must use galv outside here because of salt air. I just use it everywhere. my choice. we can use black iron inside too.
@itas0r5 жыл бұрын
Those Navien combi units have an automatic feeder right? It looks like you have both a regular feeder AND the automatic feeder hooked up? Is that required?
@ChuckBarron5 жыл бұрын
yes both....you need one on unit and one on loop.

Here in the states any product used has to be a reference standard per the International plumbing code or unified plumbing code. Depending on the state and code and amendments it adopts.

So what is the difference in durability using standard black gas pipe vs Galvanized?
@ChuckBarron5 жыл бұрын
Nothing...Its purely my choice only because I use it outside which is code here. I only stock galv..which is just easier for me for the interior jobs which black iron can be used.

So much easier if you use a level instead of using just your eye ? Just saying. Why didn’t you extend the gas pipe to the kindorf and you would have been able to strap the pipe to the kindorf ? A little poor planning Chuck ?
@ChuckBarron5 жыл бұрын
Well Andy now that you mention a level I just purchased 3 for me and the crew. What is a Kindorf? Poor plan or a change of plans its all down hill from here. Thanks Andy.

Black pipe for gas only , no galvanized allowed , Wisconsin..
@alfredvogl40525 жыл бұрын
Are you sure? Galvanized allowed national gas code. Galvanized becoming the prefered. In some areas galvanized only no black . I am not saying you are wrong many areas have there own codes. Galvanized is actually better than black. I believe areas like jersey shore are galvanized. The utility company by me only uses galvanized for there installs like meters.

interesting how different states are with their codes.

drop test?
@zakkmon1235 жыл бұрын
Pressure test, System holds pressure with no acceptable drop for the required 15 minutes, but loses pressure at about 1lb/hour. It use to be done by the gas purveyor but now by the plumbing or gas contractor. Here down in south Florida.

my area is mandatory Teflon, must be yellow/gas approved (or orange which is industrial grade rarely see it, for refineries mostly) 3 wraps around with an approved pipe dope as a contractor with a gas license (utility guys just use dope, fall under their own codes). if you are using 1/2" wide tape on a 2" threaded joint u gotta overlap the tape on the threads spiraling up to get that proper spread, most guys will just got get 3/4 or 1" wide rolls. see some guys try and cheat and use pink tape or white tape, they can call you out on it and make you redo the whole gas line. I will say with propress you don't have to deal with Teflon but the mega press gas products aren't in my area quite just yet just started getting propress readily available for copper, and the machines are still quite a bit to high priced for my blood.

you could of put your tee horizontal instead of vertical and had your dirt pocket coming off the branch and this way your valve and union and tee would of all been on the same horizontal and not in the way of the expansion tank and tanless
@itas0r5 жыл бұрын
His method is better because any debris goes straight down into the drip/dirt leg. With the tee horizontal, debris would probably go right over the opening to the drip/dirt leg, no?
@ChuckBarron5 жыл бұрын
I really should of roughed in higher...next time.
@sambeyer12495 жыл бұрын
In ga it will not pass code horizontally it must be installed vertically
@throttlebottle59065 жыл бұрын
the gas flow must make a 90-degree change of direction with dripleg underneath and never go straight across, because any debris or condensation can blow past it the other way
