Lewis makes three key points: First, progress involves recognizing and correcting mistakes, even if it means going back to the beginning. Second, the discussion has not yet reached the specifics of any religion but has only identified a moral force behind the universe. This force, inferred from the Moral Law, seems concerned with right conduct but is not necessarily forgiving or indulgent. Third, Lewis emphasizes that Christianity makes sense only after one acknowledges the Moral Law and the moral shortcomings of humanity. Christianity then explains how God, who embodies both the impersonal absolute of the Moral Law and a personal deity, provides a means of forgiveness and redemption through Jesus Christ.
