This film was shown at the open house of the Nauvoo Illinois Temple in May and June 2002. This video presentation recounts events in the history of the original Nauvoo Temple and depicts the interior and exterior of the rebuilt temple. I remember going to the site when I was 12 and hoping to come back with my own family when the Nauvoo temple was rebuilt. I am so grateful that after several times planning, we drove from Idaho to Illinois to Nauvoo. We were able to do baptisms for the dead with some of our children. This was our best trip ever. Adam Ondi Ahman was amazing too because we felt the spirit so strong. I miss working at the temple while they are closed. The temple is essential to the purposes of our Heavenly Father for His children.

My great great grandmother was married to Captain James Brown (of Mormon Battalion fame) in 1845 in the Nauvoo Temple.

I can be sealed to my mother in the temple, despite my father having chosen not to be apart of our religion?

And what do you know of what went on in Solomon's Temple?

All one has to do is read the Old Testament & you can read exactly what happened in Solomon's Temple. Solomon's Temple NOT LDS Temple: Only one temple at any one time. Headed by the High Priest. Officiators (priests) were hereditary, full-time, supported by temple offerings. Rituals described in detail in the Old Testament. Rituals only for the living. No oaths required of worshipers. No marriages performed. "Holy of Holies" was empty (the first temple [Solomon's] contained the Ark). Only priests entered the actual temple building; all others remained in the appropriate courtyard (Court of Israel for men, Court of the Women for Israelite women, or Court of the Gentiles). Altars were used only for offering sacrifices of food and animals. Main altar stood outside the temple building, before the door. Principal function was offering sacrifices, which included the slaughter of animal victims. The veil of the temple separated the Holy Place (the Sanctuary) from the Holy of Holies. Only the high priest passed through the veil of the temple. Only the priests wore special robes. High priest's robes were colored, richly decorated and jewelled (Ex 28-29). All Israelites could worship at the temple, without regard to their righteousness. Fire descended from heaven and filled the house when Solomon's temple was dedicated (2 Chron 7:1-3). Any man "with a blemish" was barred from the temple; blemishes are listed at Lev 21:17-23 - blind, lame, flat nose, broken-footed, broken-handed, crook-backed, dwarf, eye blemish, or "broken" testicles. Primary purpose of temple worship was to obey the law. No notion of "salvation" or idea of rewards in the afterlife.

VIsiting with the modern Jewish leaders responsible prepared to build the modern temple reveals that they have plans for the temple-to-be in Jerusalem, including the upper rooms- for which they have no known purpose.
