I'm currently finishing up my ATT. It's 12 weeks long class and it's literally designed you to know the basics of electronics. A-school is about 17 weeks long. Be prepared for a long long school, but at the end of the day I hope it will be worth it. Don't mess around in the ATT and A school, you will pick your orders upon your overall GPA so give your best. Did you sign for AECF you mean? Cuz if so, you’re at the mercy of the retailer if you’re ET, FC, or FCA. It’s a huge gamble. Luckily my RDC was an NC and let me choose

You can still get re-rated in C-school. Just fyi. FCA and FCS are definitely on top as far as difficulty. Study. Don't get complacent, always strive for honor grad.

They forget to mention we spend 90% of our time in the armory cleaning guns. Also, I was originally an ET and cross rated to FC. Just have to request a waiver and if he approved. I crossed in A school.

Been in for 12.5 years as an FC. First assignment to LSD-51 USS Oak Hill, i found myself in the armory a lot too as Duty Armorer. It isn't like that everywhere though, as i haven't touched small arms or CSW since 2015. With different platforms, comes different opportunity. I joined under the AECF classification and originally wanted ET. Thankfully i got FC, and I couldn't be happier. Favorable promotion odds, pretty darn good bonuses, and great career opportunities post naval service. Good luck to you all and I hope to see you in the fleet someday. *Not a Recruiter*

Just gonna point out that anyone can do the PQS to be CIWS Operator qualified...ANYONE. If you want to do maintenance on it, then you need to go to the school. But you can be any other rate and become an operator...all the joys of firing the Phalanx without any of the endless maintenance.

The greatest part of his job is "Putting warheads on foreheads?" Not only is that lame, it's an embarrassment to those of us who have done the job.
