I call bullshit on the temp change having anything to do with it at that short of a range. A 5.56 round is moving (depending on the manufacture, and weight) 993 meters a second to 851 meters a second If it was .223 you are talking about 1140 mps to 840 MPs. If you are shooting at a target at 130 meters the rounds are impacting in hundredths of seconds. The “zero” wouldn’t mean shit. The gun is an 2 moa gun at best. That is 2 inches at 100 yards. Inexperienced shooter could easy jerk the trigger. To say the weather and zero had anything to do with it at that distance is idiotic to say the least and just totally stupid at best.

You gotta realize the numbers you get from 556 are out of a 20 inch barrel. This guy used a 16 inch, which drops those velocities down drastically. In 10mph wind you can get 2 inches of wind drift with m855 out of a 16 inch at that range, which is probably what this guy used considering he grabbed some rounds off the shelf in a gun store.

For Winchester m855 62 grain it would be 2992 for 16 inch and 3097 for 20 inch a difference 105 feet per second again is it enough to really make a difference. The flags behind trump are barely moving so that would but the wind at about 1-3 mph at the target. Not enough to move a .223/5.56 round, and again it was about 150 yards, the wind would have very little effects at the close of a range. As i said before the rifles 2 MOA, and his lack of skill is more likely to have caused the round to miss, then wind, bullet drift, temp, or a bad zero. He more then likely jerked the trigger because the cops had just seen him, he was in fight or flight and the adrenaline caused the miss

Yes, that also depends on whether it was a panther made before or after sale of the company. Early panthers were built better but most 16” barrels were turned with a 1 and 9 twist. After sale they used a standard 1 and 6 twist which work better with the lighter FMJ and green tips found at most ammo stores.

Temp sensitivity is normally related to powder burn rate or leaving ammo in the sun or hot car. Temp sensitive powders can cause higher spikes in pressure, IMR 4895 for example will give me about 100 more FPS when using it in the summer when temps reach 95f or higher. This higher pressure and velocity can cause impact changes.

The looser had on the same day visited a shooting range. So the bad zero theory seams unlikely, but it's possible he messed up his zero. Also, the use of different weight bullets from what he used to zero seams unlikely. It's far more accurate, that nerves, stress and inexperience made him miss. He must have known that his own death was imminent. The picture of him being prone on the roof don't show much of the rifle, no LPVO, but a red dot might be seen. Also, no picture of the front of the rifle, so it's speculation if he used a bi-pod to stabilize. A bad shooting platform might have affected also. The counter sniper unit was in his view that surely must have put extra stress and time on the shots taken. Was he on drugs, to try to calm himself, that would affect accuracy. The rifle was budget friendly, would pressure on the hand guard make it flex and loose zero.
