Honestly, I've got to say Marisi is underrated in this deck. The combat step is the most important step for Ghired and stopping your opponents from casting spells during it is huge. No cyclonic rift, no fog, no removal. The goading is just a bonus that leaves them open next turn.

Ghired's Belligerence with Phyrexian Rebirth can be nutty. Since Rebirth resolves, then triggers all those populates, you get populate triggers on the giant token you've just created. Haste enchant on board and alpha strike for total victory.

Iroas, God of Victory. Gives your creatures Menace and also prevents all damage that would be dealt to them when attacking, solving the glaring problem of attacking with Ghired considering his weak frame. Majority of the time I get Ghired out, I'm not making use of his token generation since I can't swing in with him. By the time the deck gets out 5 mana to cast Ghired, there are enough threats on board to gang-block him and kill him immediately.

I'm definitely slipping Odric, Master Tactician into that deck once I get my hands on it. He's a huge removal magnet, and if he lives for one turn... well, you can either completely demolish the opponents' utility creatures, or make all your non-trampling big boys unblockable.

Desolation Twin seems fine in the deck, provided you run Mirari's Wake, the enchantment that transforms into a gaea's cradle, and enough mana rocks.

The Naya deck definitely looks cool. I like this wave of commander decks, except for the rakdos deck (but that's just more personal preference, it's cool too). I will say, surprised that God Pharaoh's Gift (or the throne, can't remember which right now lol). Creating tokens out of stuff from the graveyard is fun, it's basically another mimic vat.

Love the content, but tbh none of the suggestions addresses the problem with board wipes. Cards like dautless escort, boros charm, wrap in vigor aren't expensive and gives the protection the decks need. In addition to that, quite a few cards featured could be considered "win more" cards, like bruce tarl and some are fairly overcosted, like martial coup and ultimatum.

The even larger achilles heel of the deck is the commander's need to attack to create another Rhino. This isn't a voltron build, a gang block or single death touch 1/1 will take Ghired out. Majority of the time I get him out (playing stock build), he just sits there because the board is too dangerous to swing into by the time he gets out. The deck needs serious amounts of protection.

Go read Ghired's paragraph in the Commander 2019 Release Notes, before you guys take out Doomed Artisan. Ghired's ability circumvents Artisan entirely, and they actually use him as the example of ways to get around certain attack/block effects.

Out of all the commanders in this, i like marisi the most. Having everyone attack is great and he is pretty open ended in terms of what things you want to have. I have built it with trampling tokens and flying tokens, so i can take advantage of the populate cards that are already in the deck. I like atla palani as well but not as much as i love goading people

So... I bought this deck yesterday and sleeved it up. Didn't goldfish it, didn't read it, etc., Entered a pod with some high-teir tuned decks (non-precon) and got mana flooded/had wrong colors to cast until I was *finally* able to cast my commander as my first and only creature. Did some spot removal before then, but yeah. Dead hand. So I got ignored and started growing. Wound up taking it all because Wayfaring Temple, my commander, and the tokens were swinging HARD for face. I was happy and will be happier still once I tune and upgrade it.

I feel like WOTC might be more comfortable with the mechanic if they rework it. I'm thinking of a mechanic that turns and instant or sorcery you cast into an aura after it resolves. Almost like an instant/sorcery Bestow. Could work in a Theros set. Example: Rune of Culling 1B Sorcery Target opponent sacrifices a creature. If Rune of Culling is an aura, enchanted creature gains "Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, that player sacrifices a creature. Runic 3B (If you cast this for its Runic cost, put it onto the battlefield attached to a creature you control as it resolves, rather than into your graveyard. It becomes an Enchantment Aura with enchant creature.) This way they can also make the spell do different things between its spell and enchantment abilities. A burn spell could become a haste/trample granting enchantment, a pump spell could give hexproof, etc.

I played this precon once and my opponents also played the C19 precons. These decks played pretty well, and this ghired deck performed better than my reyhan ikra shidiqi deck. By a significant margin… I think I have some tuning to do.

desolation twin seems to be more geared towards an atla commander and then the populate feature as secondary. Could work well with some scrying and a way to sack an egg.

Swapping out some of the card draw for rummage effects could be a good way to fuel Feldon. I love the idea of using Feldon to get a Desolation Twin token because then every time you populate you get 20 power on board. There are some pretty cheap cards that make tokens that I've wanted to have work but I don't even know if they'd be worth here. The cards that create 5/5 trample wurms like Armada Wurm or Advent of the Wurm seem fun, or Grove of the Guardian, which makes an 8/8 for 5. Also anything that makes 4/4 flying angels, or something like Divine Visitation which makes your tokens into flying vigilant angels.

Just play close attention to those Red copy cards. Some of them, the token creatures gains the effect to exile at the end of the turn so any populated ones would also have this same clause.

It is Il-Harg. Ghired was Selesnya but then when Il-Harg showed up fighting for Gruul during the War of the Spark Ghired Switched to Gruul. That is why he is Naya colors

My friends and I played with the precons (on an app called Cockatrice) in order to try them out, and I ended up with the populate deck. While we were playing, I quickly learned that this deck rebounds from nuke spells far too easily. My friends had to wipe the boardstate 4 times in order to keep the Populate deck down and slow the deck down enough in order to defeat the deck. All 3 of them. And the deck wasn't even running at full potential with the cards in the deck, it just happened.

Chances are, you're going to swing in with them, they're not going to kill anything, and if they get gang-blocked, they're dead. The biggest glaring issue with this deck is that by the time Ghired gets out, opponents can gang block and kill him, making it pointless to attack with him unless you have some form of protection.

If your opponents allow your original Ghired to stay alive long enough for the Helm to create a problem, you've already won by that point. So you would have the Helm out, equipped to Ghired, you would have to let Ghired sit there unused (maybe protected by some form of enchantment or other equipment) and all for, what? A copy of Ghired each turn and two 4/4 Rhinos. Using Helm of the Host to create a dead 2/5 as a means to make a pair of 4/4 tokens per turn is hardly anything to write home about. In all likelihood either Ghired or your Helm won't survive either being cast or past a single turn around the table.

Also depending on your group meta cliffside rescuer is an AMAZING way to deal with unique types of removal....like imprisoned in the moon/Song of the dryads..........cause the enchantment will fall off with the protection.....and it can hit any permanent.......which sometimes your cards you could get them out expensively (like a sac outlet) cant hit it anymore cause it is a land.......

I like Divergent Transformations in token decks... it's good when you want something gone permanently even at the risk of bringing up something potentially worse, but it also allows you to turn your lesser tokens into creatures from your deck. It also costs only 3R as long as all opponents are alive.

Godsire could work with this deck, as well as utvara hellkite, also Savage Ventmaw MAY work, so long as you have enough ramp in the deck. For a spell "Awaken the SkyTyrant" could also work, if you take any damage at all, you put a red 5/5 flying dragon on the battlefield, then if you populate, there's another flying beat stick

I think I’d add in Avenger of zendikar and verdant confluence, while verdant May be a little slow, but with all the ramp in the deck being able to either get three basic at once, or make something bigger or get one of your main population cards back is really good. And avenger is avenger, no questions needed why I’d include that.

I made mine an infinite combat/extra combat sub theme populate deck. Most of the cards I added were things like dracuseth or itali plus all the extra combat cards but I also put in anointed procession and other good token makers

Helm of the Host and Flameshadow Conjuring are auto includes. Also Warstorm Surge and Godsire would be very likely adds from me. Even equipping Ghired with the Helm would give you another Ghired with another possible populate trigger and another Rhino every combat. Also goes well with literally any other creature you would have in this deck.

Really wondering why you didn't suggest "Greater Good" and "Warstorm Surge." Greater Good being repeated "Life's Legacy" is incredible value for the deck when you can create giant tokens. And then you went over Warstorm Surge already in the "Merciless Rage" deck but it is so much better here when, again, you make giant tokens...

Life's Legacy doesn't make you discard 3 cards and has a lower CMC. Sure it's one time use, but discarding 3 cards after drawing is a loss unless you're sacrificing tokens 7/7 or larger. Baseline common scenario, you are sacrificing a Rhino token. With Life's Legacy it's a 2 mana investment plus the rhino to draw 4 cards. With Greater Good you'd invest 5 mana plus the Rhino, only draw 1 card, and then have to discard 3!

Protect your board! Heroic Intervention probably did not fit the $25 budget, but Boros Charm and Rootborn Defenses should. Eerie Interlude will save your real creatures from a board wipe and give you ETBs for them all to boot, and Cloudshift is the 1-mana go-to to beat targeted removal. Armada Wurm and other creatures that bring a buddy when they ETB fit this perfectly. I would argue that Pyroblast, Red Elemental Blast, and Reverberate should be your first substitutions, because you are most likely to lose to Cyclonic Rift, or possibly Villainous Wealth, than anything else.

Rhythm of the Wild would be my pick. If you don't want your creature to attack, it gets larger. Otherwise Haste + Creature spells can't be countered is a pretty sick value for 3 mana.

Biggest downside is the double type. As both an artifact and enchantment, it is much easier to remove the hammer than Fires of Yavimaya. And the secondary abilities aren't terribly useful on either card imo.

I don't think you want to blow up your own lands in a Naya deck, maybe in a Mono Red deck, fun idea though.

I agree that you don’t want to blow up your lands, but you’re likely to play a lot of land ramp. Board wipes and flooding can leave you vulnerable. It’s a serviceable backup plan. I can see the downside of being an artifact, but if they’re using targeted removal on your haste enabler, I think you’re doing just fine. I’ve played Fires many times and the +2/+2 is almost never relevant. On board combat tricks are pretty meh. Occasionally, it might save a creature from Earthquake or something, but it’s bad planning to expect your opponent not to account for it. Hammer gives you the same primary effect and something to do in worst-case scenarios. Either way, I wouldn’t give side-eye to Fires. I just personally like the alternate effect of Hammer better. Rhythm of the wild says “Nontoken creatures.” Kind of a non-bo in a populate deck. Otherwise, it would definitely be the pick of the three.

I would definitely add Grand Warlord Radha, producing more mana to put more things out just from attacking, goes great with Marisi and Atla, but I think can work just as well with Gihred too, especially if someone uses a board wip you can't escape and you need to refill your board immediately.

There's the way of evaluating cards BPAB (Building, Parity, Ahead and Behind) and the Hellion is only good in one quadrant- Behind.

I think the only clear oversight you guys missed is Hammer of Purphoros. You talked about how important it is for this deck to have haste, and the hammer does that. Plus it gives you a small insurance against flooding, or makes a token in a pinch. Also is less than $2.

Resplendent Angel, and Utvara Hellkite, Shanna Sisay's legacy, and Samut Tyrant Smasher are some suggestions. Gives you some air presence and several conditions for token creation

I think it's a mistake to take out the sculpture creator. It screams, "remove me quickly". At first it's a passive token generator, so you always have something to populate. Then late game, it becomes a solid blocker, as few people will want to remove him. Also, if you added Warstorm Surge to the deck, then he'd be making tokens, and causing damage. And Warstorm Surge would be beneficial to the deck as a whole, even without the sculpture dude.

I think it'll be a fun deck. But kinda super-straightforward like the Mardu vampires a while back; it does tokens and that's it. I'll be taking it apart to run the Egg commander. I'll probably take my Mayel of the Anima, RG dragon deck, and maybe my naya dino decks apart to make a thematically pleasing "hatch eggs into dinos and dragons" deck.

More cheap upgrades. Both Charms that are in the colors, Grove of the Guardian, Call of the Conclave, Advent of the Wurm, Armada Wurm, Anger?, Flameshadow Conjuring, Minion Reflector, God-Pharaoh's Gift, Sandwurm Convergence, Rhythem of the Wild. I don't like having to rely on Populate. I'd rather make some tokens and then just have a few ways to populate throughout the deck to get extra value. As you have said, you don't want to draw the wrong half of the deck.
