A sensitive and a very well made film shedding light on condition of widows and the inhuman and insensitive treatment meted out to them in our society. The movie differs from the novel significantly as far as Vishwa's rebirth is concerned. The novel gives much importance to the Vishwa's previous birth and cause for his reincarnation, which is completely sidelined in the film. The contrast in the characterization of Venku in the novel and the film is striking and also fascinating. In the novel, Venku comes across as a simple and traditional woman, who is fully convinced that Vishwa is the re-incarnation of her late husband. Therefore, she did not feel guilty in having physical relationship with him. But, her son did not agree with her and as a sign of protest she left home and suffered immense hardship. However in the film, Venku is sceptical about Vishwa from the beginning and did not consider him to be re-incarnation of her late husband. But still, being forced by the circumstances and latent natural human desires, she develops physical relationship with him. In the film, Venku is a complex character, who finds herself in an unpleasant situation. She is expected by the society to consider Vishwa as her husband, but not allowed to live with him. But she rebels against the society's hypocrisy and lives her life on her own terms. She too suffers immense mental agony and social boycott for her defiant actions. The common and most pleasing thing about both the characters is that both are strong-minded, who lived according to their convictions and unapologetic about their actions.

When Novel are made into Cinema.. A great responsibility & sensitivity.. Must be shown by the Cine Team.. Tampering of characters.. Kills the true essence & cognitive mould set by its Writer for the Characters.. For the Society.. Novels aren't Just.. Time Pass.. Storytelling.. They show the Hidden Problems in the Mindset of Society.. Culture.. Traditions.. Perspective of the Writer to these.. Helps finding.. Betterment.. Development of Society.. Culture.. Tradition.. In general an Individual.. Who form.. The Society.. If the Cinematic Personalities can't match the Frequencies & Depth.. Can't understand the perspective of the WRITER.. They shouldn't Set Foot to Make Novels.. Into Movies..The Purpose of the Novel Writer can't be allowed to be Destroyed by these things.. 🙏🙏

I am sorry if I hurt anyone's feeling with this review. But, I will be blunt. I had heard great many things about this movie. But, after reading the novel, this movie is a disgrace to the great novel and story by SL Byrappa sir. Main characters are gender reversed (I think Girish Kasarvalli wanted to cast his daughter Ananya Kasarvalli and hence changed male character to female), multitude of important characters do not even feature in the movie. Story line is changed and the ending is hasty, changed and abrupt. The lead character who appears spiritual and aloof in the book is shown as an immature character who is of low moral values. Please read the novel. This movie is waste. Taking cinematic liberty is understandable. But, If you cannot capture the essence of the novel, please do not attempt making a cinema to thrust your views killing the novel.
