Calzaghe didn't fight the elite in their prime. Lewis didn't fight Tyson in his prime but he fought plenty of others at their best. Being undefeated has to be put it into context. Who did they fight? When did they fight them? How did they win each fight? Andre Ward totally outclassed a world class fighter in Froch and would have beaten Calzaghe if they fought in the same era. Roy Jones JR a few years before their fight would have won easily. Hatton is the only one who fought his opponents in their prime.

Joe calzaghe was is and forever be the greatest British boxer of all time. Very under rated unlike naz, who after defeat took the easy way out. Calzaghe wanted to fight the greats earlier than he did but they always ducked him. Such a shame he'll never get the full credit hevdo tightly deserves

I know Eubank was the pantomime villain and everyone hated his arrogance (huge insecurity) but he has to be mentioned.. in his prime he was unbelievable. Great athlete, could take a punch, fast, brave.. Was never the same after Watson but he's got to be up there. Hatton was people's champ but when he came up against true class his lack of strategy and intelligence as a fighter was exposed.. big time. In conclusion.. Calzaghe over Lewis any day of the week ;)

Honorable mentions... Definitely not in the conversation of best of all time but this question has made me all nostlogic. I will always remember the Colin Jones vs Kirkland Laing fight. Classic puncher vs boxer contestsm I think they fought twice (?) with Colin eventually walking him down both times. Kikland Laing on the other hand achieved perhaps one of the most unexpected results of all time when he got the decision against Roberto Duran.

For me Joe Calzaghie is the best boxer Britain as had in my lifetime. Floyd Mayweather gets all the credit in the world for retiring undefeated but when it comes to Joe Calzaghie the yanks dismiss him. They also berate Joe for fighting at home for most of his career, but not the likes of Mayweather and Ward for fighting EXCLUSIVELY at home. Did Calzaghie spend too much of his career defending one belt? Yes but that wasn't his fault and even at the end of his career he beat some elite guys and a couple of legends. Just imagine what he could've done in his prime if Frank Warren would've let him off his leash. Joe beat everyone he faced and retired an undisputed 2 weight world champ 46-0
