The thing with Bird is he had the shortest prime out of every top 10 player, and he didn't really increase his level of play in the playoffs compared to his regular season numbers. Bird also almost always had a really good to great team around him, we've never really seen him take on a heavy offensive load for the team like Jordan or Lebron had to.

At his peak he was completely unstoppable. His performance in the 2000 NBA Finals might have been the most dominant ever performance in a single NBA Finals series in NBA history by an individual player. Could have been higher on this list had he taken better care of his body. HM: Hakeem Olajuwon: There wasn't quite enough room in the top ten, but, you can't talk about all time great basketball players without mentioning the dream. Had the most skilled low post moves ever and was an elite rebounder, defender and shot blocker. Truth be told, all 11 players deserve top ten status. * If there are 10 teams in a league, each team enters the season with a 10% chance of winning the championship. Expand to 20 teams and now each team enters the season with only a 5% chance of winning the championship and so on. By proof of math, rings are more impressive if won in a league with more teams.

There’s no way Duncan should be 10 if Kobe is 3. Duncan had the better career with same amount of rings with more mvp and fmvp than Kobe. He’s also a better defender. Also bron should also be above Kobe as he has more mvp and fmvp than Kobe. He’s just as good a scorer if not better, he’s a better playmaker/passer and he’s more efficient. Magic should also be top 5 with same amount of rings as Kobe but with more mvp and fmvp. Shaq should be higher and curry should be lower

To bad high school and college accomplishments have no merit to the conversation of best player in "NBA" history. Kareem is the only top 10 player to miss the playoffs twice back to back in the middle of his prime. He didn't win anything without Oscar or Magic feeding him the ball. He "dominated" the 70's, which is the weakest decade in NBA history. The talent was split between the ABA and NBA so for most of the decade Kareem never played against the best of the best. He has 6 championships but was only the best player on 2 of those championships. This Kareem case for Goat is very overblown when you actually dissect his career. He's not better than Jordan or Lebron.

I tend to shy away from arguing GOAT lists because of the generational differences. For instance, my personal top 2 are MJ and Bird, while I think MJ's game would largely remain the same with maybe a slightly higher shooting percentage since he could usually utilize his athleticism in most spots, I really wonder what if Bird grew up in a time where the 3-point shot existed in his childhood and coaches didn't discourage long shots so actively for so many years. When he was developing his shot, there were 1s, 2s, and "Long 2s" (liabilities). The 3-point shot was new ground to break in the NBA and he ended up founding the 50/40/90 club without a previous marker to aim for. That's just two of the legends I think could cross the divide. There are others on this list, and elsewhere.

Good one, but I d take Lebron out of the list. No one jumps at him . The zone even clears out in most of the highlights for him to dunk. Any rated star in a competitive era was better suited for an entertaining game and effective than him.And thats what counts the most in my GOAT candidates list. I think Its unfair that neither Karl Malone, Charles Barkley , Scottie Pippen, James Worthy, David Robinson or even Reggie Miller are in the list while Lebron is. His plays are just boring . My list would be : 1- Larry Bird 2- Michael Jordan 3- Wilt Chamberlain 4- Kareem Abdul Jabbar 5- Magic Johnson 6- Bill Russell 7- Kobe 8- Tim Duncan 9- Hakeem Olajuwon 10- Karl Malone

Jordan and Wilt used to argue over who deserved GOAT status, no one else was in this argument, not even Larry. Jordan actually lost the argument, but is still somehow regarded as the GOAT by most people, if you do a study of fans or players alive right now. If you do older people, they might say Wilt. It does not matter what we say, most of us suck at basketball. Jordan was a little guard after all, not a 7 footer, so it's crazy we're having this conversation of him scoring on centers as big as Wilt was, and he would score but I'm not sure who would win at the rim, if MJ went to posterize Wilt... For a 6'6 person, Jordan is unquestionably GOAT.

A very good list you have there. Your top 9 could've played in any era. Greatest of all time? What's the measuring stick? Championships, Bill Russell has the most. Individual accomplishments, Wilt Chamberlain has the most. Rules going for the player, Michael Jordan has that but, rules that was helping the opposing team, Wilt Chamberlain has that. All of them are great players and only two of them could play all 5 positions, Magic Johnson and Lebron James. It's easier to say M.J. is the G.O.A.T. because, no one else received more contracts then him. In my opinion, I think there was a little bit of unconscious bias in your order. Like I said very good list though.
