Hakeem was better in '93. He probably should've won back to back MVP and DPOY in '93 and '94. He carried easily the worst supporting cast in the League to championship contention both seasons, just that he won it all in the second one. Sure Jordan had the edge on offense, but Hakeem was barely just behind on offense and much better defensively. It was Hakeem, then Jordan, then Barkley in '93, in terms of best player. @@angelackerman7865 i didn't forget anything. That '86 Rockets team was deep and talented. Unfortunately their best scoring guards were suspended the following year for drugs, and Sampson started his rapid decline from injuries. They basically had to start all over, building around Hakeem. As for the '81 Rockets, that was the flukiest run to the Finals in NBA history. Somehow that sub-500 team rallied around Moses Malone to take it all the way to game six against Bird in the Finals. The fact Bird needed 6 games against a sub-500 team, demonstrates how not-ready Bird was. Bird scored 6 points per game less and 6 percentage points less on field goals in the Finals compared to his regular season numbers, leaving Finals MVP Maxwell to carry the leadership load on offense and defense. Magic missed more than half that 80-81 regular season for the Lakers, so they missed getting the first round bye. That first round upset by the Rockets over the Lakers was a huge influence on the eventual change of the playoff format away from the best 2 of 3 first round. It also put Paul Westhead on a short leash the following season, where Riley took over early on.

No, not even close, he wasn't voted that often because its not the best player, it's the most valuable regular season player for a team, Jordan SHOULD have gotten a 3 peat MVP no doubt, but its because when your on a superteam, you become less valuable, bc your team can win without you.

I am an old man so I really do not care if I make people mad. There really is just one reason Jokic did not get the MVP, skin color and flash. He busts his butt on the court and never has anything scandalous happen off the court. He is a Blue collar worker in the NBA. He will not get the spot light on him because he does not get media attention. Media wants things that drives viewers. Train wrecks create viewers. Joe Friday does not.

TBH, it was more racism than fatigue. Like when perk dropped the white privilige card out there, most sixers fans used it as an argument and in current day and age. Its simply easy to convince people to be more nice to african americans. Thats the truth. Jokic is like Gordon in dunk contest. Getting destroyed not by skills but favoritism.

I think that it was no mistake at all if they choose any of those players to win the MVP this season, they are both phenomenal players no question about that . Although the reason for picking Embiid over Jokic was a very silly one (the voters had got tired from choosing Jokic) this is very silly and stupid .. if you saw someone who deserves an award you have to give him your vote and that's it it's very simple ..

The thing is, his style of play is too strange for them. Like he shouldn't play in the NBA. But that's why some strangely highly skilled players just don't want to play hard because of a decision like this. They want them. "Playing to be recognized. But that's not how it works. If he can succeed, score, see, he should have won this title.

Realistically there was a racial component just from a purely pragmatic perspective. In an era where the most harped about things are representation and diversity, there's no way they're going to put a white ethnic as the top of the majority black American league. They were just being practical about it, it just becomes inconvenient that the year they decided to do it just so happened to be Jokic's best.
@rockonileva Жыл бұрын
Nah.. This was not just voter fatigue... This was, IMO, the media not being able to accept a person the is as far as possible of being the portrait of the league being put on the same tier as legends, and above other legends. Gilbert Arenas summed it up perfectly on a podcast. Jokic is not the player that brings attention to the league, he's not the player that sell products (being the NBA the most important of them). The media didn't lose a second to criticize Jokic for THE WAY THAT HE CELEBRATED the title... They wanted so hard to highlight he's the wrong person to be on the spotlight that they weren't able to detect irony... Jokic being dominant is also challenging the way that the USA thinks basketball. They way that they develop their players. His game is so fundamentally sound that it seems kinda weird watching some guys playing. And he does this being as unatractive to the viewers / kids / "analysts" as possible. BUT... about having help... well IDK... Maxey is not a bonafide star, and Harden is past his prime. The sixers are a total MESS, and Jokic is part of one of the most cohesive starting 5 on the league (Yeeeeah... Jokic is part of the reason this roster is SO cohesive. He elevates the level of his teammates). Murray was as leahal as he was before his injury, KCP was a match made in heaven for the team, Gordon was as well, MPJ is developing well. The bench was working well. There's no way Embiid had more help, sorry.
@markovak007 Жыл бұрын
Well, in regular seasons 76s supporting cast was better, as the record without Embiid/Jokic shows. The main reason was that Murray struggled coming after injury for a big chunk of regular season.

The thing everyone is overlooking is the fact that Jokic WON WITH THE NUGGETS!!! I'm a die hard nugg's fan and in my opinion the world does not realize how bad the nuggets franchise is historically. I agree that Jokic should have won the MVP but I think your comparison of the teammates is pretty far off. At this stage I would rather have Murray than Harden and it's pretty close between Michael Porter Jr and Tyrese Maxey. I also take Gordon over Harris. You could go back and forth on these but I'm just saying it's pretty close as far as teammates go.😊
@markovak007 Жыл бұрын
While I agree with you about playoff roster comparison between the Nuggets and 76s, in regular season 76s roster was clearly better. Murray struggled returning to form and reached the top form just in time for the play-off run. The team's record without Jokic/Embiid confirms the observation.

@Michael-vn2jj Жыл бұрын
@@stevenleblanc8146 id pick Maxey if you let me pick one to start a franchise, easy. The context of this is the postseason help for Embiid / Jokic.... This last postseason Murray was the best overall of the three, Harden had huge games but was extremely inconsistent and a defensive liability. If you let me have one for a postseason run right now, I'm taking Murray, for future it's Maxey and best player all time of the three is clearly Harden.. context of my comment though was specifically this postseason help for the two... AG was stellar and so was Jamal.
@stevenleblanc8146 Жыл бұрын
@Michael-vn2jj The Nuggets were a great team. Anyone could step up in any game the way they all played together as a unit. That's why they were so good. Murray is every bit as inconsistent as Harden. They both had some big games and would follow up with a game where they were off or slightly off. Harden is a better option if Embiid goes down than Murray is if Jokic is injured or doesn't play. That's not to discredit Murray. He's a beast. Harden is better, at least for now. In terms of who meshes with who better, it's pretty close to call. Murray and Jokic pick and roll is reminiscent of Stockton/Malone, just a different version, slightly different play style. It's a scary combo. Harden can free up space and he can feed Embiid. Jokic/Murray had more time to develop chemistry even though Murray suffered the ACL tear. They might have the edge because of it, idk. It's apples and oranges. The Sixers don't play the same way the Nuggets do. If you reversed roles, assuming Harden was 100% dedicated to winning and bought into the system, he could very easily make the offense even better than it already was. Or he could just be a terrible fit. That's not something that's actually easy to tell beforehand, even though a lot of talking heads play out those types of hypothetical scenarios as if anything was guaranteed. Only thing that's really been proven for sure is that Harden is a better player.
