LeBron and Jordan beg to differ. At their peaks they were both top 5 league defenders and top 5 all time offensive engines. Jokic is most likely the offensive GOAT over Magic, Jordan, Bron and Steph, but he will never be a high impact defender. Both Jordan and LeBron got their teams farther than they should have gone by sheer mastery of both sides of the ball in their particular styles. Nuggets are at best a second round exit, and if Jokic never wins again, he'll go down much closer to West, Oscar, KG and Dirk than Duncan, Bird, Magic and Kobe.
@lukeramer7702Ай бұрын
Bird also is up there. Probably 3rd behind jokic and lebron. But if you go back and look at the Celtics record after he was drafted, they went up like 20-25 wins and never had a season under 50 wins with him

@@geordiejones5618 do you see any argument he's a slight positive on defence and somewhat clearly the best offence player of all time? Just a friendly question. Could you believe he is a slight positive on defence? If you accept he's the goat offensive player, do U think he might be it by a margin enough that on a lower evaluation of either LeBron or Jordan he gets to be right there? It's a big stretch for me, but I think it's not the dumbest thing ever either. Is there an argument that, in the 90s, offensive players probably couldn't impact the game as much as players today? But could impact more defensively than today? If so, does the logic check out that maybe lebrons defensive impact is minimised to a degree that jokic is right there? But for me personally (!), no player is ever going to surpass MJ, because he was the closest thing to magic (closer than Magic even :D) I ever witnessed on the court. But that's not only because of his game, but because I was an impressionable kid, there was no 24/7 media coverage and there was simply no debate back then (it was 1998 and I watched the finals as a 12 year old German kid in the middle of the night). He's the first "great white hope" player that's mostly lived up to the hype and so the media has dedicated itself to settling on only the arguments that allow them to give him more awards despite his top competition leading their teams better most years. In addition to that, he wasn't even the best player in the league for 2 of his 3 MVP's. Embiid was running away with the award before injuries dropped him out of the race over half way through the season. So 2 of Jokic's MVP's weren't even because he was the best player. They were because the best player in those years got injured in just enough time for him to take the lead due to just staying healthy. So, even if he was the most valuable, that didn't mean he was the best player. Yet they want to run with that like it makes him the defacto best of his era. JM-MPJ as starters have the worst first half in the NBA - they don't want to play defense, when they play badly they say it's our fault, like MPJ said at the end of the season - they say he's to blame for the loss but they go to the bank and withdraw the money - the money is secure no matter how they play.

@MycrosssАй бұрын
eh, it goes both ways - the talent level is insane now, that all 10 players on the floor can play at elite level, while in the 2000s and even early 2010s, you had top heavy teams with one star and 4 fillers (for most teams). You could argue that these numbers would actually be way higher, like Wilts were, since the competition was way behind. Put Wilt in the modern NBA and he might average 10-20ppg considering his limited dribbling and shooting, in a league where every big can shoot and dribble now. And the argument of "Guhh they're playing against Plumlee and shit while others centers played against Hakeem, Kareem etc., is also just plain wrong, since if you just take a moment to research the teams and their centers, there was 3-4 centers that were top tier, and then 25+ who legit couldn't even dribble or catch the ball. Shaq got destroyed by Divac on multiple ocassions, and Divac is literally a dude who started playing at 16 for the first time and lacked in a lot of areas, so Jokic would absolutely dominate Shaq. Let's remember Jermaine O'Neal was one of the best centers in the 2000s-2010s, a dude who legit wouldn't be getting any playing time in todays league due to lack of fundementals. Point is there are many factors for both sides of the argument, and I personally, after researching this subject a bit due to curiosity, feel like it was easier to play earlier in the league. 80% of the nights you were matched up with a dude that couldn't play but was tall. People tend to disregard that most players before this era just hooped for fun and were the best at it, compared to how most players today have started training and aiming for the NBA since they were 5yo. That's at least a 10y headstart on actual training, and then you also consider how much technology allows people to progress faster and better now - your team has sports scientists that handle the optimal training and dietary regimes and so on. At the very least it's debatable, and definitely not an easy stance to have with thinking the numbers are inflated. They are in some cases - like what Westbrook and Harden were doing, but that's easily spotted since it results in loses.

A basketball league that ignores an entire half of the game (Defense) should not be taken seriously. The NBA is selling a fake product.

@ yeah wilt was more athletic than anyone in the league rn and if he had been born in the year 2000 he would have learned all the skills necessary he would’ve shot 3s and adapted to the game that’s why you can’t compare eras

Good video. Clearly inspired by Jxmy but thats not a bad thing. I think you could work on things like tone inflection and cadence (they soound monotonal and repetitive), maybe a bit better mic. Keep going

I think it’s interesting he’s such a good facilitator in the center position. As far as my pick for most compete center id normally go with Hakeem. He does everything a center supposed to do on both sides of the ball, but jokic is so different. He plays chess on the court, using every piece to their fullest. A shame he’s on the nuggets.

If jokic DECIDES to play 4-5 more season then statistically we might be witnessing the greatest center of all time no joke
@dealingthereal692228 күн бұрын
It’s easy to have a stand out season, in today’s league where NO ONE plays defense and everyone shoots 3’a. Transport any one of the past ATG’s to this era and triple what they did, then, and that would be the results of them playing in today’s league.
@LFCfanGerrardYNWAАй бұрын
I would love to watch him with, for example, Luka Dončić. I think they would dominate the league plus they are good friends. That would be a treat to watch 💯
@jaycob1830Ай бұрын
Ill never think of him as the best center of all time, as there is no way he will ever pass up Hakeem and Kareem, maybe even Wilt in terms of ability to play the position. But he practically plays all the positions at the same time, and thats nothing to scoff at
@graycockerpunch6191Ай бұрын
Yea honestly i think the main reason is the death of the center postion. You can’t really compare him to Hakeem or Kareem because they had different roles than him. They aren’t playmakers.
@goastlyarrowplaysАй бұрын
Jokic will never be a traditional center, but he’s something of a Point-center. Plays the role of a point guard and center. It’s weird, but he’s good. Damn good at it.

This is great analysis. However, be careful if you make up a new complex stat, and it shows that the player you are currently analyzing has the highest ranking of all time in that stat, you may have created a biased stat for this specific players strength. In other words, I am quite sure if you chose to add in other stats into your concoction, you would find the results lead you in a different direction, towards a different player with different strengths...

Great video. I actually think there have only been 3 players to win 4 MVPs and 2 Finals MVPs. MJ, Lebron, and Kareem. Finals MVPs weren’t around for most of Wilt and Russel’s careers. Wilt won in 72 but it wasn’t around in 67.

With what 20 games in, it is clear that the Nuggets cannot win without Jokic. With him on the bench the Nuggets simply start to crumble. When he is on the court, they are able to strike neck to neck or take the lead. You can see this in the game. He is the most valuable to Denver

People need to stop saying Jokic is unathletic. He is a professional athlete and dominates in a league full of other professional athletes. In that sense, he is actually the most athletic of all. It is utterly impossible to get within a mile of playing in the nba and not being extremely athletic. Just because he’s white and doesn’t jump high doesn’t mean he’s some random dude off the streets.

Heres a question. If jokic somehow got his hands on a de'arron fox or dejounte murray, how much would nikola jokic benefit from having an all star/all nba caliber player? 55 win team? 60 win team? Finals favorite i mean seriously his second best player this season is mpj or aaron gordon and has never had a all star player. I believe if he had a good player by his side he'd be unstoppable. Like kd had curry, imagine if jokic had curry. It'd be the greatest duo of all time, absolutely unstoppable.
