Larry would fit in today’s game FAR better than todays players would fit in his era. 💯 💯 💯

Larry played at his comfortable speed when he could. He also only jumped as high as he had to. He was smart enough to know expending extra energy to look good doesn't win games. He had a slightly above average vertical than today's game. He was fast when he needed to be, and hops when he needed them. He was smart enough not to make that his whole game. Athletic ability is not basketball. He knew that.

Yeah, Bird would KILL EVERYTHING in today's league. Bird played the rough and tumble game, but he never played dirty unless someone did him dirty. He may have been slower than most, but he would get so many dudes out of position with his fakes - both on passes and shots. And the fouls he would draw... He would live and eat at the stripe. Also, moving him into this era would give him access to modern medical advancements that would have him playing for 20+ years with his motor, mental toughness and drive. And when that era with no hand-checking allowed on D? Buckets would rain, and Larry Buckets would reign! 35p-12r-10a. Triple-dub almost Every. Single. Night.

What people don't understand. Larry Bird beat EVERY single superstar of his era. That's why they talk about him. The guy would call his shots. Then do it. There's no one even in yhe league right now. That could even try it. Let alone do it regularly. To players, coaches and benches. 😂

Not sure if Bird would of averaged more ppg in todays game. He may have averaged 30 with Boston but he dished. He played to win, not personal accolades. Ask Parrish and McCale.

*I have to say bro* I've THOROUGHLY enjoyed watching you learn video after video just how great Larry was.!!! I think if you had a time machine and could teleport Bird to today, with his skill set of 84-86 he would Avg 35-40 and perhaps 40 with 12 to 16 of those points coming from the foul line.! With all the nutritional & medical advancements coupled with his drive and "overall" ability he would *in effect* be MORE unstoppable then back in the day.! Especially given the hands off/softer physical aspect of the game today.! And I agree, he would DEFINITELY adapt.! This one was especially good.! Laughed hard at the response to the college guys....

In today's cupcake league with the lax rules, the spacing, shooting three's, no D, and with all these one-and-done low IQ guys?? Bird would be ridiculous. And he'd make all his teammates better without jumping from team to team. Great reaction bro.

The current generation has no clue just how dominant player he was. He would definitely adapt, and find it easy because of the weak play and the foul rules. How many points he would score would depend on how good his teammates were - whether he had to take over the scoring, or could dish it off to someone who got open.

I find it interesting that the thing that they say would hinder Bird in today's league would be his talking on the court. That's an admission that today's players couldn't handle someone saying "I'm gonna shoot it from right there". Or "I'm over here, rookie". "Aren't you going to guard me?" Sad, don't you think? A technical foul for potentially bruising a grown man's feelings or ego? Odd that they don't call Ts against players who score a lot against another team or that steal the ball. 🤔. Or do they already do that?

It think it's more so the reason he would get in trouble today is because the refs throw around technicals for anything honestly 😂

If Larry couldn't talk, you might as well have him play in just his socks. Talk was a big part of his game. It made him feel better. He said it himself.

When magic said at the beginning that bird made like 30 in a row he was probably right. Bird broke his hand in a softball game about a year after that story happened and bird said he never had the same feel for the ball after that and still put up did what he did

If Bird was playing in today's game, one of two thing would have to happen: 1) Larry gets kicked out of the league because of his savage trash talking. 2) The rules change concerning trash talking. But they won't kick out Larry because they'd be missing out on too much great ball and great memories, not to mention the hilarious trash talking.

Larry's shot against Portland was amazing. He was actually behind the backboard when he shot it! I tried watching the NBA this year. It's nowhere near how it was. It's a perimeter game, nothing much inside. Players just wanting the rock to take outside shots or 3's. If you put the '84 Celtics against any team today, I'd bet my house the Celtics would win the championship!

@James Long Today's NBA is a shadow of its former self. It's a perimeter game with players wanting to shoot 3's. There is no low post game. Terrible defense. You breathe on a player, and it's a foul. The game holds no appeal for me.

Of course Bird would have incredible success in today's NBA. It's obvious. Luka Doncic is destroying today's NBA. Luke is EXTRAORDINARILY competent and multiskilled at high levels as a scorer and passer. Although not very quick or athleticaly explosive, Luka has high basketball IQ, solid fundamentals, abnormally good court vision, great physical coordination, superb mental focus and tremendous self-confidence. Yet . . . 1. Luka is not nearly as good a shooter/scorer as Larry Bird -- in the post, at midrange, or at longrange. 2. Luka is not remotely as good a rebounder as Bird. 3. Luka is not as good a passer as Bird. 4. Luka is not as good a one-on-one defender as Bird. 5. Luka is not as good a team defender as Bird. 6. Luka does not have the same extreme a ruthless killer insinct as Bird. 7. Luka does not quite have the court vision of Bird (possibly the highest ever in the NBA). 8. Luka does not quite have the basketball IQ of Bird (possibly the highest ever in the NBA). 9. Amazingly, Luka is notably slower afoot than (early, pre-injury) Bird and not as good a jumper. (And, of course, Bird was not known for footspeed or leaping ability.) 10. Luka (6-7) is not as tall as Bird (listed at 6-9, but actually 6-10). In fact, the only area where Luka exceeds Bird is at dribbling. But Luka plays a lot of guard, even point guard. Yet Bird had a good handle, especially for a power forward-sized 1980s player. Even Bird took his dribble behind his own back regularly, including while running fullspeed down the court on the break.
