He’s only underrated because a massive majority of NBA fans are either stupid, or biased. Even Warriors fans turn against him, and they are immediately exposed, to me… but I realize, I’m the kind of Warriors fan that is going up against a new generation of fans… mainly those that loved Jordan Poole, love Kuminga, loved Wiseman… It’s like, yeah all you young people, you can’t appreciate Draymond, because you were a kid when the Warriors dynasty started, and your understanding of basketball isn’t 1/10 of what Draymond knows, so shut up Draymond haters.

Exactly, I can tell who has a surface level understanding of hoops, if they start saying Draymond is worthless, and if they don’t understand his value. Fun Fact: Team defense has always been more important than on ball defense. The team defense Pippen was hating on is the reason Curry never needed to be a great defender to beat other great scoring point guards. A team defender is disrupting the whole offense and making up for the defensive deficiencies of his teammates. Locking down 1 great scorer isn't going to do anything for you if the other team has 2 great scorers or if their best player isn't a scorer but a facilitator instead who is helping everyone on his team score.

Amazing how often you see dudes like scottie be like "you gotta be an on ball defender, not just a team defender" as if the NBA is a series of 1v1s and there's not 8 other dudes out on the floor. This isn't 1995 anymore. Wings and guards in this league are way too skilled in iso for the primary defender to be the thing that stops them from scoring 95% of the time. Your job as the on-ball defender is to force the guy with the ball into the rest of the defense. Dray does that as well as anybody, as well as being the guy you absolutely want most anchoring the rest of the defense off ball.

He's underrated mainly by the casual crowd because he makes himself pretty unlikeable on the court. They look at stats rather than actually watching him play and don't see those finer details that the casual fans can't see.
