Disappointing that not once did he ever lead the NBA in rebounds and block shots. And never once won the DPOY award. White America was shocked in the 80s-90s that blacks were absolutely dominating the game, and there just weren’t anymore superstar white players after Larry Bird. The best white player in the 90s was John Stockton. That doesn’t surprise me at all. Blacks were going to dominate the NBA once systemic racism ended in pro sports. But, what does surprise me is how there really aren’t any more dominant centers like Shaq. Though Shaq was a once in a lifetime type of center in both his size and agility (Yao Ming was impressed in how active Shaq was since Yao had trouble going up and down the court with smaller guys), it’s been disappointing to watch the league with really no more superstar centers that completely dominate you down low. It feels like the Wilt Chamberlain, Willis Reed and Shaq type centers are gone for good. Dwight was always a fabricated version of them. It will be a very long time until we see another Shaq…a behemoth King Kong who clearly imposes his monstrous presence on both the offensive and defensive end. But what I like most about Shaq is that he’s just a good humble dude.
