@@jlui21 I'm a big Kobe fan, and always knew MJ was a little better. But I also suspect people are ignorant when they don't even put Kobe or Bird in their top 5 or 6. They had that end of game killer mentality, but they were aggressive from tipoff to final buzzer, every game. Offense and defense. Both were smaller than LBJ, but more alpha. Outside of MJ at #1, I think there are valid arguments for MANY greats in the 2-10 spots of all time.

He completed this ballgame. We know nobody will show us anything better. It's the mythology in the era of science like a Greek mythology including comedy and tragedyㅡ for people who were born before and around 80s. Lucky us, we'd witnessed the finest play and narrative and...we just get to know that it was last dance, nothing will ever be over his legacy and nothing will be as beautiful and inspirational as his play. There's the stars we all know about already, but for me what people forget about is how MJ played during the 80s and early 90s. MJ CAPTIVATED you. There's great skilled players today like Kyrie, Luka, Anthony Edwards, etc etc but they still don't excite me as much as MJ did. Something about the way MJ used to float in the air and do creative layups and dunk. There's a reason why they say, 'Wanna be like Mike' or 'Fly like Mike'.

Bill Russell and Kareem have to be in the conversation too. 6 rings, 5 MVPs, all time leading scorer for the longest time. Russell has 11 rings, would've been MVP many times if it existed back then. The problem with Kobe is he doesn't have the stats, accolades and never dominated the league like MJ, Lebron and Russell. MJ never lost in the finals, Lebron went 10 times, Russell won 11 times. Kobe was only #1 for two of the finals and it doesn't matter what anyone says: it's a fact. Shaq was finals MVP all 3 years they were together, and regular season MVP once. Phil built the team around him and told Kobe to scale back because Shaq was #1. Shaq's finals numbers were crazy and he was one of the most dominant players ever. They had to hire players just to foul him because the only chance they had was him shooting free throws. Then look at Magic: he was finals MVP in his rookie year as a center when Kareem was injured. He has 3 MVPs, 3 finals MVPs including in his rookie year. And he revolutioned the PG position. Kobe is considered a copy of Jordan and not even the best SG ever. How is he above Magic?

When the discussion is about " Who's the greatest? " for sure its always subjective. But Mike's influence in Basketball is the greatest! Everyone wants to be like him. You want to play like him, you want to wear his shoes. I mean common man. He is second to none. His colleagues knows the magnitude Mike brings to the table. Even if he is with celebrities, they tell you, Mike is more famous than them. 😂

And it's only in the USA that people debate this trust me I am from India and the Basket Ball community is quite small compared to Cricket but almost everyone who knows and loves Basket Ball considers MJ the GOAT cuz he is the reason we started playing the sport

JJ needs to research more before saying things - how many roster spots then ? … 12 and now it’s 15 plus 10 day contracts so is it more watered down now? No - nba level players are the elite and always have been since it became professional… Stop pretending to be impartial while elevating Lebron and down playing MJ we can see what you’re doing

If the newly added teams from the Jordan era are still in the league, then the league is just as watered down today as it was then. Either way you still have the best 300-350 basketball players in the world. JJ’s logic doesn’t hold up.

Question for the comments. Do you think Lebron’s longevity in the league has anything to do with the rule changes as it relates to fouls and overall play. Do you think Lebron could have played as many years through the late 80’s and 90’s where hacks Shaq was allowed?

LeBron so great.... People are really starting to sound dumb when they say that because his career and where it has gone...the way LeBron and the Lakers just got swept out the playoffs.... That greatness really doesn't exits at this point, not at the level these people are trying to put it. Hell, if you take LeBron's numbers and divide by his years in the NBA, that's not even that impressive because he's been playing for a millennium now. LeBron's another first ballot hall of fame player... Lets leave it at that and stop trying to make him something he never was. It's silly at this point trying to push him over MJ23. Hell, I wouldn't put LeBron over Kobe, let alone MJ.

JJ's argument doesn't quite hold weight because you're still adding the best players in the world to those teams. Yeah you'll have that team struggle for a few years but it's not unlike the ordinary doings of the NBA.

The way I look at it is that MJ would have smoked LeBron had they faced each other in their primes. LeBron has longevity and physical traits but Jordan was the better player; really dominating. I also have Kobe above LeBron for the same reasons.

I don’t understand the dilution remark made by JJ. Yes, I understand it mathematically/technically. There’s more people playing, so hypothetically, there’s less talent on each team. But if you fast forward to today, there’s more teams, so you could say that the league is even more diluted today. I’m not factoring in athleticism in each era. I’m just making a point to JJ’s dilution argument. I don’t understand how it lessens Michael Jordan’s greatness unless you’re comparing him to people that came before him.
