The Rodman thing is something a lot of people didn't realize back then. The Spurs at the time were extremely good, but Rodman all but seemed to sabotage them in the playoffs by not playing help defense, leaving his man repeatedly to pursue rebounds instead of defend his man (which was Hakeem a lot of the time, partially why Hakeem had such excellent stats that series), and even seemed to intentionally commit fouls for no reason whatsoever other than to get benched and take a break. This cost he Spurs multiple games in the Rockets series, and possibly also Robinson's first championship and tarnished his legacy. It was almost shocking to me how Jordan and Pippen got Rodman to actually play properly after seeing how poorly he played with San Antonio.
@adgee54012 жыл бұрын
David Robinson wasn’t anywhere close to Mike.
@snakeplissken76712 жыл бұрын
@@adgee5401 I didn't make a comparison between Robinson and Jordan. I was talking about how difficult it was for Rodman to be coached and to get him to actually play the game properly rather than commit lazy/useless fouls when he wanted a break (even when it was late in games and costed them playoff wins when he did it) or get ejected due to bad behavior when he was having an emotional breakdown. So again, the issue is Rodman's extremely unprofessional behavior, and not the best player on each team Rodman was on in the mid/late 90's. Of course, your comment is also wrong. David Robinson was a top 3-5 player of the 90's since he came into the NBA in the early 90's and until he got injured in the late 90's. They're taught "win at all costs is the most important" whereas, Dwight is of the opposite thought - instead of putting fun and enjoying the game you love last, you put it first. Robinson’s nickname was the Admiral and there aren’t many of those in the Army. It’s not a huge surprise he and Rodman didn’t get along.
@blakebrown8411 ай бұрын
We had already knew as soon as Dennis Rodman arrived in San Antonio after being traded from the Detroit Pistons. They couldn’t stand each other. They love playing together as teammates, but it was Gregg Popovich who hated Rodman. He was scared of him because he started dyeing his hair every night and get more tattoos. He dated Madonna. They did the old Pizza Hut commercial. The Admiral has praised The Worm over the last few years and he appreciated him more when he played for the Spurs for two seasons.

His back and body was breaking down at that time, but Charles played his heart out in Houston. Pippen didn't care if they lose. Plus they didn't have a good PG cos Kenny and Sam were gone, I think Maloney was outmatched against Stockton.

I can imagine Dennis getting fed up with David and talking to him like a drill sergeant. A few days later, Rodman goes to his next team.

'Stop coming to practice an hour late, hung over, and with a fresh tattoo bleeding on your shoulder' is not talking like a drill sergeant. Rodman was getting paid, very well, to show up and play basketball.

I would also include 1972-75 Seattle Sonic forward John Brisker, especially after he punched teammate Joby Wright and knocked out some of his front teeth in 1973 training camp. He also punched Sonic point guard Slick Watts during a practice session. And when Brisker had played for the ABA's Pittsburgh Pipers/Condors from 1969-72, he once beat up one of his teammates during halftime of a game, and was rumored to carry a loaded gun in his gym bag to practices.
