This is the most genuine speech I have heard from a coach in the NBA HOF ceremony ever. There have been some great ones but I think we might have to put this in the top 3. Him telling everyone basketball doesn’t love you back and saying his players did everything is just class. I hate the spurs but they deserved the success they have. I honestly now hope he can get another and be argued again Phil, and that is coming from a person who grew up with Kobe and thinks Michael is the Goat with Lebron right behind. Pop is the greatest coach. I'm a Lakers fan, born and raised. Sure Phil Jackson won LA a lot of championships. but there ain't no one like Pop. Staying with one organization for so long is a testament to what kind of person he is and how you just wouldn't want to get rid of him. He's a rare one of a kind coach and it'll be sad to see him retire one day.

Your not a real Lakers fan then. And before you discredit Phil for having MJ, Scottie, Shaq and Kobe, EVERY HOF coach has multiple HOF talent. Pop had Admiral, Duncan, Manu, Tony, and Kawhi. Until I see Pop lead multiple franchises to contenders and champions like Phil Jackson and Pat Riley, he’s not the greatest. He’s top 5 for sure maybe top 3 at best.
@OrionOodama
@OrionOodama 16 күн бұрын
@@Theterminato2013 And you have the audacity telling someone they're not a Lakers fan. Why, do you have the standard template to be genuine fan? Phil is the NBA GOAT in coaching championship-wise. Thankfully, there are other ways to be great. Why punish Pop for being loyal to one franchise? Pop is better than Pat Riley, and don't zero in they share the same number of titles.

Absolutely an all-time Top 3 coach in the NBA. As a Celtics fan, I wasn't around for Red. Phil Jackson is my second go to.... but Popovich has commanded so much respect, so long. He not only commands respect through discipline and hard work, he strives to make his players & staff better people. You can see it in Becky Hammon's speech, how much Gregg means to her personally. To me, Popovich is the ultimate coach to model and emulate. Instill a winning culture, without scandal and toxicity. Build up people under him to become better human beings. I love this guy. He's the evidence you can win it on the highest level without sacrificing a shred of integrity, ethics and morals.

I think it is totally okay to let people be in the hall of fame during their career. After losing Kobe, life is too short to put a time limit on when people should be honored because of years. Players included, I get there is a line waiting but in real life, the person who is more important to culture gets to cut in line at a club. We never got a Kobe Speech and I think as basketball fans we deserved that. Glad he has been coaching so long he is actually allowed to be active.

@@mentalmadness2192 she did amazing, I just wish I heard a few more minutes of wisdom from Kobe. I think the restrictions on being able to be in the HOF are not fair to the players or people watching. Kobe had a HOF career by the end of his 07 season averaging 36 points. Others have done the same but life is too fickle. Remember Chris Bosh had to retire early too and we were lucky not to lose him but he deserved the HOF after his last chip with the heat. If you are legendary in a child’s eyes, then you should be able to speak to them on a platform where they see you worked your ass off to get where you were even if still playing.

I can’t believe he gave seattle a shoutout during his speech. I think that is so damn cool. I hated those spurs teams growing up but came to really respect coach pop and the constant success of the organization. Well deserved.

Coaching is not about chasing records, it’s about forging relationships. When you have a team working together and helping each other towards one goal, good results will follow.

Even though your Spurs have always given my Suns the business....I've always had nothing but respect for Pop and the players he surrounds himself with. Good luck in your next chapter sir.

I always enjoy watching the Spurs play. They play as a team. No boring isolation plays.
