what about the 144 players in the league that deserve higher salaries but can’t achieve that because of bad marketing decisions like not sending the most popular and highly decorated asset the league has to a global marketing platform like the Olympics? Clark doesn’t need to go, she has plenty of money , but her boosting the visibility of the game on a global level increases the viewership and salary cap for the average player in the league some of which make under 80,000$ a year.. Diana Taurasi or the other less known players on the team do nothing to boost the global revenue of the game and the wnba.

Changing the Women's Welfare Basketball League into the Women's National Basketball Association IS the entire conversation. They are in their 28th season right now - and NEVER has been profitable. They have been handed a golden ticket, to MAYBE grow the game out of the toilet, and turned her away! They are acting like a fourth generation welfare recepient saying that they won't lower themselves to cleaning houses or flipping burgers to make a living. Even Budweiser finally realized after shooting themselves in the foot, to not re-load and do the other foot. If the WNBA++ league doesn't learn soon, they are going to miss this opportunity to get off welfare.

I don't think so. Was the reason they called MJ first because he was the best or because he was the mos popular? MJ made basketball global he brought eyes to the game. If MJ had not gone to the Olympics then the whole dream team marketing that went around the world would never have happened. A lot of people did not watch because of the player MJ was, they watched because of the hype he generated with his team. The whole NBA is still benefitting of that. Now CC won't be able to bring that amount of hype because its the women's game but you had the opportunity to show off to the rest of the world, to your home base to all the marketing people the value of the brand, and they failed it. Now the narrative will be again that the league is prejudiced, half my timeline if full of it. Don't let your daughters play parents your pushing her towards.... that is the narrative they are spinning now.

@MaxineShaw-ck7uu
@MaxineShaw-ck7uu 2 ай бұрын
The gold matters more than ratings in my opinion when it comes to Women's Basketball. People keep talking like Caitlin brings the ratings maybe in college you could argue that however what ratings is she creating in the WNBA across the league that suggest she would bring all these numbers in the Olympics. No one player singularly carries a sport especially one who isn't a transcendent talent as some want us to believe. Caitlin would literally be the worst player on the roster if she was added and would see limited minutes because of it. At this point in her career Caitlin is more of a hype job than a reality please let this young lady breathe and mature into what she's suppose to be her time will come if she's really that girl but until then let the real stars of the league carry the torch for the US and bring home another gold.

@@MaxineShaw-ck7uu The WNBA needs the marketability she brings to thrive off of. Strike while the iron is hot even if she is the 12th spot and plays spot minutes. The WNBA players had to argue for years for flights they just got, they want better wages. Yet when the ability to market that shows up, they only care about the pettiness of keeping her off the team. Also the wake up call for them is that the most marketable player in the WNBA will ALWAYS be a younger player who by resume status is undeserving because college basketball gets more eyes purely off the bracket than the WNBA does. In the clip Chiney talks about 'setting her up for success when people will watch'. Give it 3 years and no one will watch regardless because they didn't strike while the iron was hot. You're right no 1 player carries the WNBA because the NBA carries the WNBA by fronting their bill of a failed league to keep existing while running millions in the negatives every year. Want better treatment and wages? Maybe turn a profit would help? Maybe the way to do that would be to be more marketable as a league? Who knew how business and sports work. WNBA missed the mark on leaving CC off the team.
@MaxineShaw-ck7uu
@MaxineShaw-ck7uu 2 ай бұрын
@@bmsuperfly3286 so Caitlin being the "12 spot" on the roster is marketing the WNBA? Interesting concept. Key words "arguing for years for flights" so what does Caitlin have to do with that her presence didn't provide these flights the players who helped form the foundation of the league determination did that, wages are a product of the market value as a whole Caitlin can be the "savior of the WNBA" but no sports league is built off of one player. Players don't get to pick whose on the Olympic team they have a committee for that and the most marketable player in a league is the best player in the league and that would be Aja Wilson whom I might add is on the Olympic roster. Also let's be honest the WNBA will never be a ratings juggernaut because of racial and sexist bias in this country the response to Caitlin struggles in the league shows us this. I also don't understand how the WNBA is going to suffer because Caitlin isn't on the Olympic team I guess viewers watching her from the bench is going to be box office somehow it's going to be the most electric 5 to 8 minutes a game the world has ever seen. Note to all you newcomers the ratings for the WNBA has been going up in recent years and get this Caitlin Clark was nowhere to be found in other words support the d**n league and not just one woman especially if said woman is far from the G.O.A.T that some in the media oversold her as.
@bmsuperfly3286
@bmsuperfly3286 2 ай бұрын
@@MaxineShaw-ck7uu Yet somehow despite all the ratings going up the WNBA is on pace to be in the negatives 50 million for the year. That is after the growth by the way. I think people just refuse to accept that CC has so much mainstream attention right now that her name alone generates more interest than the WNBA as a whole. Now like typical women driven things the pettiness and the bitterness comes forward and instead of accepting that the WNBA has done a bad job they must attack CC to bring her down to their level instead of using her to elevate everyone. Angel Reece was mad that she wasn't the one in the spotlight. Shocker Reece is a good young talent. So was Ionescu. Yet outside of the Steph shootout no one tunes into the WNBA games to drive a profit. Wilson has been in the league 7 years and has been great the entire time she's just on a MVP run this year. Still no one tunes in. The fact people refuse to accept is the WNBA should not continue to do their same cycle over and over because it hasn't shown results. Given a chance to capture a spark of social media attention with talent to back it up (lets not act like CC will not be a top 5 player in her peak) they choose to let the spark pass and not capitalize. Yet they still constantly complain about their situation in terms of compensation and perks when they run as a negative from a business standpoint. WNBA loves to be inconsistent and tear any chance they have of success down because none of them can put their ego and pride to the side for the betterment of all the players as a whole. Oh why do our top stars only make 1-2 million and why did we have to beg for flights for years? Idk try not losing 50-100 million a year. Legit the NBA G-league sells out more regularly. WNBA wants the prestige and perks of the NBA, but none of them are willing to make the sacrifices to get to that point that the NBA had in its very early years.

It is crazy how different men and women see the Caitlyn Clark Olympic snub, hate and jealousy. Women are trying to say Caitlyn Clark is not deserving, physical enough and been playing long enough. Men are asking what are these women talking about. Facts Caitlyn Clark by the numbers is having one of the best seasons ever for a rookie while being one of the most fouled players in the WNBA. Facts not feelings Ladies! History will look back on this and ask WTF! According to the ladies they want more money and eyeballs but the player that averages 17k in attendance versus 7k should not be on the team for feelings not Facts. Their game, salaries, and people paying attention, when Caitlyn is not there should wait 4 years to grow! SMH ... WTF Women are out of control and their own worst enemy!

The facts clearly show Caitlyn Clark is must see basketball. She had a higher attendance than the Boston Celtics had in game 1 of the finals this year. She would of if she went as others did to super successful colleges like UCon etc. She didn't. She went Iowa who were basketball nobodies. Despite this shot more points in her college career than anyone else in history. There is nothing hype about her stats . The US has a long history of taking rookies and first draft picks. American womens basketball has been complaining about the lack of money, poor salaries and conditions for years despite never turning a profit in 26 years . They had a window of opportunity to get the worlds eyes onto US women players because of the global interest in Clark . And what do they do. Drop the ball because they are not governing for the betterment of the game. US women have won nine gold medals, seven consecutively. If they win again no one cares . If Clark was involved there would be a real chance to migrate Olympic viewership to the WNBA. Its a shoot yourself in the foot moment. One of the best Ive seen.

The problem as I see it is that the hype train for CC in college has yet to translate to results at the pro level. This was all media and people wanting to believe that something great was about to happen within the WNBA. The target painted on her and high expectations for CC was more media setting the expectation. You set people up to fail because if they don't come out the gate with that same level of productivity, here comes the critics. The players are not going to make it easy for her because that is not their job. Because the media spotlight is on her, everything is magnified. Her successes, her struggles, everything is magnified. Marketing is good, but you can't really ask people who are highly competitive to lay down for a rookie when they have just as much, if not more, talent than the one that the media is promoting. CC will adapt and get better because she is a competitor. But people need to stop forcing others into the spotlight with the weight of an entire league on their shoulders when they are not yet ready for it. If she were to go to the Olympics and not get the play time that her over-zealous fans thinks she deserves, then what? I can hear Stephen and Shannon now saying "why is your most marketable player not on the court for the majority of the game", "or the team should be working help CC shine" and on and on. And I can't believe Shannon had the audacity to bring up MJ as if that is even remotely comparable given that MJ had already proven himself at the pro level. Let's not forget, that MJ got beat up too and had to go to the gym to handle that physicality.

It’s ashame for anyone to think Ms.Clark will impact the Olympics game . She isn’t better than 80 % of the WNBA WOMEN ! she has a jumper that’s it ! That’s not how basketball works. I don’t know how this one lady supersede the work and dedication . Many WNBA superstars has contributed over the years ! As good as MJ was . He lost for 7 straight years . Before , the Bulls finally got him help . Ms.Clark is exciting Caucasian people ! Not real Ball players .

I laugh out loud when they say that CC is not tough enough for international ball. She has played on two USA international teams (FIBA under 19 and FIBA under 16). They act like they don't have a weight room at Iowa and she's never picked up a weight before. LMAO😅

Sorry Shannon but MJ was 8 years into his NBA career, an NCAA and NBA champion when he went to the 92 Olympics, not a rookie who has never won anything. Some of these ladies won't get another chance. Caitlin will have plenty.

If I was in college exhausted from March Madness on that long fight while trying to graduate as a student, and then to move drafted within a month while being used over and over in public being on a WNBA professional team that sucks being new sounds so overwhelming during controversial discussions on sport shows too. Within three months where dusts does not even exist in her home to leave only play with seasoned legends in Paris where no one likes you as a marketing tool could actually destroy her as an athlete in the middle of her rookie career. She is not an Avenger, C.C. is a human where her time deserves proper flowers to bloom because the roots don’t even settle with the dirt right now. Let the young girl be before you destroy what she loves. What a crock.

What amazes me is the males who comment about Caitlin Clark - USA have coaches that made decision it’s soooo sad that the tone of voice is loud to get your point across. OMG😂 so disrespectful - Olympics is about winning gold and putting the best of your country on the court not the best market. It’s disrespect to those who have made the team those who selected the team. What makes this worse is it’s the ladies who play who know how ladies function…. Caitlin doesn’t seem to be bothered so why is everyone?😅

Extremely valid point. Nobody who got selected faces the kind of defense that Caitlin Clark faces. They're not doing that because of popularity. They're doing it because they know she can go off if they don't. What kind of defense is Taurasi facing?

Clark’s stats for the year are the same (slightly better than) Taurasi. Why take a 42 year old when she clearly is not the future? Why is Griner representing a flag that she didn’t want to stand for? Even if Clark doesn’t make the team, Arike should be selected before Taurasi who is old and inconsistent at this point.
