Info: YES - this IS the Holy Grail of NBC Football themes!! The long search is OVER! This is Gault's theme for the 1986 NFL Season, which ran until the 1988 AFC Championship Game. The title is 'Superbowl 17' which makes me think -- was this song composed for NBC's coverage of Super Bowl 17? NBC did air the game on January 30, 1983, in the Rose Bowl. Dick Enberg's call of John Riggins' 4th and 1 touchdown run was so memorable: "He's gonna go all the way unless Blackwood can catch him and he can't!"
I think this theme WAS composed for that game. Would have gone great with those plays. But the theme did debut for Week One of the 1986 season. NBC had a version for its college football package as well that ran from 85-89. Enjoy!

I Haven't heard this NFL on NBC Theme in years, I don't know about anybody else out there when I'm working out especially sled pulling, and Leg day (those of you who work out know Exactly what I'm talking about)=Motivation i Envision / Power /Determination/ and finally Conquering, and that can Apply to almost everything in life. NBC messed with a lot of stuff in 1989. I think it was an image change at the network going into the 90s. Many iconic shows of that decade were cancelled including great daytime game shows. NBC also lost MLB rights which they had for over 40 years! And finally demoting Merlin Olsen for Bill Walsh. That didn’t last long! Bob Trumpy ended up rightfully taking over as Dick’s color analyst.

In my opinion THIS should be the Sunday Night Football theme. Nothing against Wide Receiver, but this song sounds like a big game is about to be played. Not to mention, it also incorporates the NBC Chimes into it. Maybe it will return with NBC picking up Big Ten Football this year. It does have a college band feel to it too.
