That’s because it wasn’t our community. Any community that justifies the killing of my own group isn’t my community. That group stops seeing itself as part of that community. Of course the majority don’t understand.

And he gets a second rush and breaks the cuffs and keeps fighting. The pigs draw guns. Decide not to shoot him for some reason. Then bring out the batons. So you see a few mins. Thanks to advances in recording technology, this is the first *well-known* video record in the modern sense of police brutality. It really opened a lot of people's eyes - including mine (back in my red-blooded conservative days). That shoved into my 24 year old face that I vastly underestimated the tendencies of our criminal justice system to deny Blacks justice. When the riots started, I was doing clothes in the college laundromat, and saw a black student in the distance. I was thinking "Do NOT say a word. You might say something to her you'll regret!!", then watched the coverage in very humble silence.
@filrabat19652 жыл бұрын
A postscript: The summer after the riots, the US DOJ pursued charges against the four officers. In 1993, the federal trial found two of them guilty and two not guilty. The judge criticized King's behavior, supported the first set of baton blows, but then said the later beatings were excessive. All four fired from the LAPD shortly after trial ended.
