Yeah generally when you’re a felon from beating your wife and armed robbery. And you go on a 20 minute high speed chase. On the la freeway It’s bad. 2 other passengers were with king. Arrested without incident. (Black guys) Well ol rodney high on pcp burst out charges cops and fights for 17!’ins just ragdolling them. At one point he’s subdued. And he gets a second rush and breaks the cuffs and keeps fighting. The pigs draw guns. Decide not to shoot him for some reason. Then bring out the batons. So you see a few mins. Of a 30 minute ordeal and chase and king fighting nonstop. I bet you didn’t know there were 2 other passengers? I assume you knew nothing about this as there is one video. It’s 16 mins long. Why are you only seeing when he’s finally brought down after A 7 minute fight

Thanks to advances in recording technology, this is the first *well-known* video record in the modern sense of police brutality. It really opened a lot of people's eyes - including mine (back in my red-blooded conservative days). That shoved into my 24 year old face that I vastly underestimated the tendencies of our criminal justice system to deny Blacks justice. When the riots started, I was doing clothes in the college laundromat, and saw a black student in the distance. I was thinking "Do NOT say a word. You might say something to her you'll regret!!", then watched the coverage in very humble silence.

A postscript: The summer after the riots, the US DOJ pursued charges against the four officers. In 1993, the federal trial found two of them guilty and two not guilty. The judge criticized King's behavior, supported the first set of baton blows, but then said the later beatings were excessive. All four fired from the LAPD shortly after trial ended. I was in 9th grade when this happened. I grabbed the snout of a cat and sang an ode to a unintelligent gray man to try to grow wings and fly to the sun. 40 giant ants grew human arms and punched me. I then ran into a tunnel and cut off a thumb. Despite this, nothing changed.
