We have one place in lake county where you can still recycle bottles. It is always a 2+ hour wait and they don't give you the full refund you are entitled to. The state needs to stop charging a crv fee without any way to get the money back. This is ridiculous. I'd rather pay no fee and put the bottles in my recycle bin

When there was a recycling center near me they were paying $1.75 a pound for cans. Near the time they closed they paid $1.60. But the deposit was always 5 cents or 10 for a large container. So even when they took material consumers were still getting ripped off because the per pound price was less. They do not count them.

I went to a small gas station convinience store that was on the list of CA recycle stores that are required to refund CRV. The cashier said the store doesn't take recycles and he does not know what I'm talking about. I go on the official CA recycle website and that store was on the list. I go back and I tell the cashier his store is on the CA recycle list. I told him the store is required to redeem CRV or pay the $100 fine. He goes silent, then calls the manager, the manager still resists but is completely aware of the law. When the cashier took my bottles, he threw a huge fit, threw the bottles in anger, for me calling out his bluff. If you have evidence their store is on that list, you gotta hustle them and remind them about the $100 day fine.

new york's bottle bill works i put the bottles in a machine get a ticket then apply the ticket as a coupon at the check out. i recycle one can at times

the way CRV works is when you buy a bottled drink it costs 5 cents more whether the producers eat it or the consumer pays for it. either way california already got its money. but the agreement is when you recycle, that 5 cents can be returned to the consumer. california couldn't care less if you recycle, they already got the money and recycling would only cost them money.

That’s what I didn’t understand. This local news “investigation” acted like from the start it was a good program UNTIL there was no place to recycle them and then there were various organizations to blame. *But the program itself doesn’t make any sense!* The put the CRV charge on the products to encourage recycling, but when you recycled the empty product you only get half the amount back. Even if the program worked perfectly and everyone could and did participate, where’s the rest of the money going? The get .05 cents for every single product sold no matter what you do. When the anchor said if you can’t recycle the state keeps the money! They were keeping a huge amount in the first place! That was the time for the damn investigation! And why did that Policing Office surprise check random stores? Why don’t they publicly put out the message that the public should report stores in noncompliance directly to them? It’s not like the public wouldn’t respond?!!! And what was the result of their checks? Anyone get fined DAILY until they started a place for recycling?

Just dropping you a line. It is an odd way to do things. In Texas the city does the recycling. You have a blue roller bin for trash and a green one for recyclables. The first truck is the trash truck and the second is the recycle truck. They go to a sorting center. Our family of 5 uses the recycle bin every week and the trash bin maybe once every 3 weeks. We don't have to worry about how to get rid f it and the city makes some extra money for it's trouble. Plus we don't have to pay a tax.

Why am I not surprised by LA unable to get things right. I guess I should consider myself fortunate that I don't live in LA county anymore. In Kern county, there are recycling centers where I can drop off my bottles and cans, while making some money. Who knows how long this will last.

Well, depends on how you define recycling. Plastics can be transformed back into oil by using pyrolysis. Just search for plastics to oil, you will find many DIY videos here on youtube. I just wonder, why this is not done on a large scale - after all it would solve the plastic waste problem.

Yep. And they gave us blue trash bins for recycling. The recycling centers have been paying so little that one years worth of glass beer bottles and soda cans from a family of 6 plus the stainless steel mixed metal pool frame only gave us ....hold onto your hats.....$35.27!!! That my dear readers, was WITH a coupon for $1.87 per lb. Insane!!!! Not worth it. So we dump everything in the blue bins and the state taxes the crap out of the trash collectors who then nab US again to make up for the loss!

On both sides? How is the consumer who’s trying to recycle the empty product to redeem the CRV (?) breaking the law? The state is breaking the law by applying the tax to encourage recycling when there are no places to recycle the empty product. You could hold the stores who are legally required to recycle accountable, but there are no policing agencies to do so. At one time in the past the public could shame the stores and they would change their ways because of bad publicity, but that was probably 50 years ago.
