Rock your world will rock the world on THE RUN FOR THE 🌹. He has done nothing wrong . Won his maiden on New Years Day. Then won a stakes race, and on to win the Santa Anita Derby. Finishing the race 1/2 a second better then Justify. I’ll say he handled the dirt just fine. Unfortunately Sadler decided to put Rosario on him but, Joel knows him well. Will there be a photo finish for win in the Kentucky Derby? Has there been a photo finish in his last 3? Trying to pull up after crossing the finish line will be a challenge. This future superstar can run all day. Giddy Up 🏇🏻

Very impressive, and that turn of foot out of the turn. Poor Medina Spirit, knew he was operated. We have another serious derby contender here. Now finding it very hard to place my top 5 derby contenders but here we go. 1. Concert Tour- Baffert's last big gun left. 2. Essential Quality- deserves favoritism based on accomplishments. 3. Hot Rod Charlie- always runs! 4. Rock Your World- feel will only improve and may be placing to low on this list. 5. Baffert doesn’t need to win the Derby every year. Clearly, he doesn’t have a good Derby horse this year, meaning he will most likely not win. No excuses, just let someone else have a chance.

Baffert breaks down more expensive impeccably bred horses early in their careers than any other trainer by far. He’s no different than the factory line production type operation D Wayne Lucas used to run with his 2 and 3 year olds. His attitude is to run them all hard, and if they make it through the beatings they’ll win, and if they break down that’s ok too.

He only switched leads about three or four times in the stretch. He won’t get a mile and a quarter.....as impressive as this looked, when they switch leads like that numerous times in the stretch at a full run to me it’s not a good sign for more distance.

@@xrandy225 Ive been using sheets since “87” I can tell you this derby looks just like an allowance race at Belmont. 9’s don’t win derbies, this horse is slow and offers no value. That being said the speed of the track is quantified into the number and most horses that run uncontested on the lead usually run their fastest figures. They also don’t configure getting dirt kicked back, this is a turf horse that hasn’t had that yet. Hence why I call it handiguessing🤓

I wasn’t impressed. He very nearly got beaten. I don’t think Essential Quality can get the 1 1/4. Besides it’s been 30 years since a bluegrass stakes winner won the Derby

@@emmaleahconnely5367 Only reason Essential Quality almost got beat was because Highly Motivated ran a monster race and improved greatly, Essential Quality still got the job done which at the end of the, that matters. Also don't forget, the Churchill Downs stretch is longer than the one at Keeneland, so EQ will have more time to catch and pass the leaders. And EQ showed a new dimension in the Blue Grass, he showed that he can lay closer to the pacesetters and doesn't have to be seven lengths back in the field, which shows that he's adaptable, which is good for the Derby, where he may have to be closer to the front. He also proved in the Southwest, that he can run in the mud and win in it if there happens to be a sloppy track on Derby Day, none of these horses have run in mud yet, so if it rains, that's an advantage to him. And he showed in the Breeders' Cup that he can handle dirt in his face and can handle going four wide on the turn and being in traffic, which again, he will need for the Derby. Essential Quality brings the whole package, not to mention his breeding. His sire is Tapit, whose colts excel at longer distances, and his damsire is the sire of 2004 Derby and Preakness winner Smarty Jones.

@@halifaxhunting1034 Oh please, you know darn well that if any Tapit colt is gonna win the Derby, it's Essential Quality, considering that Tapits do well in the Belmont, which is a full 2 furlongs longer than the Derby, the Derby distance is not the problem, but the traffic. And this is basically like saying that Justify should have never won the KD bc he never raced as a 2yr old and before him the last one who won the Derby without racing as a 2yr old was Apollo

Medina Spirit broke like a rocket and Velazquez grabbed hold of him immediately. I bet Baffert isn't happy with that unless he told him to play it that way. He could have been on the lead easily. Might not have mattered. Probably wouldn't have, but when a horse breaks that sharply why not let him take advantage of it. Not typically way Baffert likes to play it.

You have to remember Baffert also doesn't like his horses setting an insanely fast pace. There's a middle ground there that Velasquez couldn't quite find it seems.
