I came across your channel about a week ago, and I have been binge-watching it like my wife watches Real Housewives of You truly have a gift for writing riffs, thic or otherwise. Your content is so consistently entertaining and well-made that I genuinely forget that you don't have 1 million+ subs, and can only assume that you will get there with nothing more than some time. I'm so glad I found your channel. Thank you for taking the time to do what you do. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go to Walgreens and purchase a neck brace, because all these thick ass riffs have had my head on a real Y-axis swivel lately.

I use a TC Electronic Mimiq pedal to get this effect live. It gently modulates one side to make it sound like 2 separate guitars. Highly recommend for stereo setups.

I stumbled upon your vids after I discovered the band Chronologist, absolutely love the music you've done with them, as well as your solo stuff. The first time I watched a video from you, it clicked with me instantly.Your workflow is incredibly inspiring, even for someone like me who tries to get the best out of built-in plug-ins in a DAW when it comes to effects and mixing and mastering. Keep up the great work! Love the Thick Riff Thursdays as much as the next guy! lol

I’ve been playing guitar into a stereo stompbox and playing one part mic’d live to a real amp with a condenser mic several feet away (something I learned from a FB friend who trekked to TX to jam and hang out for a few days; had a blast) and while the same signal is going into my NUX floor processor (it’s about like a Line 6 POD Go etc) then going to two trax of my DAW. Mixing a real amp plus pedals with digital amps/pedals. It’s a fun way I thought of to experiment by, and I’ve been getting really great toneage and interesting sounds…that’s another way such a setup is good for, having 2 completely different sets of efx pedals in each track, especially unusual ones such a pitch-shifters, my real EHX “Talker” pedal, choruses, etc. I’m sure others do that same thing, but it doesn’t seem like I’ve ever heard anyone talking about it.

Another easy way to add depth to doubles is to use a different pickup position, you get a lot of the same benefit of switching guitars without having to actually, you know, switch guitars.

Just when different tones are more easily accessible, it looks like guitarists and producers forget how great this technique sounds. I'd even go a step further and add a third thick and bassy guitar in the middle (Metallica's black album style)

Blending 2 different amps left/right. I'm assuming the younger audience might not know.
@SKJESUS-qk5qy
@SKJESUS-qk5qy Ай бұрын
Nowadays across many modern songs there are a lot that just rely on one set of the same amp sim and ir loaders on both sides. If they blend in amps, it's usually double tracked or quad tracked but that's not the same as having different sounds on either side. Because the layers are the exact same and almost processed the same on either side

Interesting. I thought most producers used different amp/guitar/speaker/mic combos when tracking guitars It's one of the few things that providers a richer and more interesting tone, because if you're tracking or even worse copy/pasting the exact same parts across the track you don't get the separation necessary to make the whole thing sound bigger.
@2StupidMarks
@2StupidMarks 8 ай бұрын
Yes, most bands don't use the exact same amps for both guitars. In the studio sometimes I'll have one dude do both left right with the same amp and then the other guy do a center tone with a different amp. generally i prefer the same amps left right but not always. People who track only using sims is a little different than people who track live bands with their gear. I prefer using amps and then that part is "done" it is what it is, no fiddling around with different vst's etc searching for the "perfect" tone. You do lose some versatility tho because you are committed from the start. BUT i often take DI just in case, tho i rarely end up using it. For bass it's usally always DI.
