Parker is the first and only NCAA woman to run under 15:00 outdoors. Given that this was the second half of a long double, emotionally draining being her last collegiate race, and in warm and very humid conditions, this was a very impressive performance. Incredible year for PV and coaches Palmer!

I agree. There is also a lot of lane two and three running as she laps the field. That would add some time too.

What a way for Parker to likely end her collegiate career! 5 NCAA titles in a single academic year. That is dominance. First time by any woman in NCAA history. She wipes out Tuohy’s 15:03.12 outdoor 5k record by almost 11 seconds. Can’t wait to see Valby competing as a pro.

If she stays next year, she could potentially have 10 or more NCAA titles have one more year with her women at Florida set more records and be more prepared for the pros. But the money is too good from sponsors and the bigger challenge is their, plus she will get to compete with and against her friend Tuohy .

The only disappointment is the sparse crowds. Parker deserved better in “Track town”. She should have heard a roaring crowd pushing her to the trials standard on what was a warm afternoon. Greatest collegiate female distance runner ever. On the pro level, she has to develop a fierce kick. The pros will draft until the last lap and blow by.

I noticed that over the past few days. When I saw PV run the 5k in the NCAA finals last year here in Austin, the stands in the track/soccer stadium were full, but then Texas had lots of athletes in the finals.

@@CCat52 I was in Eugene to watch the Prefontaine Classic 2 weeks ago. Even then, the stands were less than half full. It is a beautiful state of the art facility, but the U of O has made a major marketing mistake. The trackside stands(especially back straight) are almost completely empty because they are more expensive. The upper stands are still not cheap($100) and half full. They need to close the upper stands and cut the price for track side in half. As it is now, there is no crowd noise to cheer athletes. They need to subsidize with the obscene amount of money the football team generates to provide a memorable experience for fans and athletes.

With that time she’d have finished sixth at the European Championships in the senior women’s 5000 m race just a day ago. The winner Nadia Battocletti of Italy finished in 14:35.29, setting a national and championships record. She’s about 2 years older than Parker. Some other strong women including the defending champion skipped the event in order to focus on the Paris Olympics. And that’s only European athletes. So Parker definitely has the speed to turn pro right now, and maybe she can make the US Olympic Team. That’s amazing. Fans should just not expect her to immediately also crush everyone at the international level. But with a few years of professional training and good health, she could get there until the LA Olympics.

The Olympic standards were much slower for the 2020 Olympics very few Americans have the 2o24 standards in the 5k fewer in the 10k which I think is 30 seconds faster now than in 2020.They are 1 to 2 minutes faster. Record Wise... The Africans at least . Many American women with the standard are injured this year. However many of the races are not at record pace they are 20 to 60 seconds faster as the pros often use elbows timing strategy blocking trapping team work and then kick at the end. She should at least be top 5 among the Americans I think, but many are injured so she may be too three among non injured Olympic America hopeful at the 10k at least.

The "world" is considerably faster than her in both the 5k and 10k. Even US runners have run 30 seconds faster just last month in the 5,000m. Let's see what she can do but there will definitely be an adjustment.

I think that when Valby crossed the line, the finish line camera accidentally took the time of the NC State runner because she was to the left of Valby where the camera is likely located, so they had to manually look at the finish to get her actual time.

So, I ain't buying the .2 of a second. That is microscopic on a 5k. BUT, as far as clocks and crossing finish lines are concerned, it doesn't matter if it is 10k or 100M. .2 seconds on a 100M race...imagine the reaction to that error. It's the same transaction essentially...runner crosses line. Clock it right. You have MORE time to size up the finish with ONE runner traveling slower than a 100M. .2 of a second correction should be thrown out. Take the initial time. That statistically is a failure. Again, even though .2 on just under 15 minutes is nothing...the clock needs to be accurate to sufficiently time 100M. That's the difference between a WR, and not placing. In the US and Jamaica, it might be the difference between a Gold and WR, vs staying home for the Olympics. Depending on the group that year. Male and Female. Can't have that. So the clock function shouldn't care about the race length...it needs to nail it much closer than this. I'd say she got the 14:51.98. No gift. Just legit. Longer races shouldn't be afforded that kind of margin for error. That .2 mattered.
