I have failed this, more then 3 times and my emotions go in waves, i think passing PE is not meant for people like me 😭 😢 😕 😐 😔 💔 😭 😢 😕 😐 😔

I was planning on taking the PE exam (transportation) this January but decided to reschedule till April for the new format, considering I'm giving myself a couple more months of studying and putting all my focus on just transportation, I thought it was a good idea. My senior at work says I'd be better off taking the current version since I'm still a fresh graduate (I got my bachelor's in May and EIT in July). What is your opinion, Daniel? Since I'd be in one of the first batch of examinees for this new format, would it be better to be taking the new or old (current) version?

Great question! Have you already been studying for the current breadth/depth format? If so, I would also agree with the advice of attempting it in this format prior to April. If you haven't been preparing much or want additional time, I would actually recommend waiting for another year or two. At that point, I think there will be more information about the exam and it will also give you time to build more knowledge in the design standards that are listed for use on the exam.

There are some advantages and disadvantages, but overall I think it's a net positive for the examinee and will favor those who are more familiar with the design standards in their discipline instead of a broader civil engineering background.

@FindleyDaniel will this benefit older, more experienced engineer rather than a fresh graduate with an EIT ? As it stands now, a fresh graduate can and does often take and pass before the 4 year experiential mark. Which seems to defeat the purpose of the exam. So he benefits from the more generalized exam of today. Whereas the older engineer, who has forgotten quite a bit of general engineering, as he's specialized at this point. He struggles with current PE format. I'm summary. To me it seems that the old format favors the young engineer whereas the new format favors the older engineer. Thoughts?

I do think that's likely,@@oleopathic. From my understanding, that's the intent of this change in the exam - to put more focus on the professional practice aspect that you need to gain by working in the profession.
