You should do a list of your favorite non-ludwig snare drums. I love the ludwigs but would love to hear some hidden jems or some under dogs.

I might have 10 non-ludwig's - though they'll primarily be solid shell🤔

I know it's supposed to be a niche thing, but I loved the BRICK in all tunings.

Me too - the sustain it has in lower tunings is unreal!

Yes, the old suspenseful pause trick, as Maxwell Smart would say. I just thought I’d get your opinion on snare side tuning, as it seems to be a divisive topic at times. I, too, prefer snappy snare wires, I also like them to sound dry. Appreciate you getting back to me, Nick. Cheers.

You had me worried at the start…the last Snare Saturday, thank goodness you added for 2024! All the snares sounded great, but I like the Ludwig Epic Brick at medium-high tuning, it seems to be able to sustain a lower end, which might be a result of the shell thickness? I also liked the Ludwig Bronzephonic tuned medium-high, it has a unique sound, I own a 14” x 6.5”, so maybe my ear gravitated towards that funky sound. I’d be interested in your thoughts on snare side tuning…cranked to table top, or not, or it depends? Anyway Nick, love your drumming, and wishing you a Happy New Year!

The added pause for suspense! Thank you for following along in the series. The brick surprised me when I got it - I wasn't expecting it to resonate so much in lower tunings since it's birch and 20 plys. That Bronzephonic is a special drum, I really like it in the tuning in this video. As for snare side tuning - I tighten it to table-top for a snappy snare response. Might have a slight give to it when I press with fingers. Thank you again for following along, for leaving such a great comment, and the kind words about my playing. Happy New Year!
