Excellent video! However, I do not understand how the Lyapunov energy function (using the control law) proving asymptotic stability around the origin means that the trajectories are confined to the sliding surface. Can you please elaborate? I understand how you arrive that the origin is asymptotically stable using the control law but I cannot understand how it relates to confining the trajectories to the sliding surface.

If s=0, it means that the trajectories are on the sliding surface. We consider the dynamics of the sliding surface and define a control law. Then using the Lyapunov theory, it is proved that the control law ensures asymptotic stability of s- dynamics. Asymptotic stability means that s will finally become equal to zero, that is, the initial states are brought to the sliding surface.
