yep, Taeyong is the confirmed leader of all of NCT! also Lucas, Ten, and Kun debuted in NCT U before WayV was created, WinWin debuted in 127, and Xiaojun, Hendery, and YangYang were added to NCT through WayV’s debut

Now, but not at the time of NCT 2018. It was only the center because 127 was the only unit with a leader. Mark was not yet the leader of Dream and WayV did not yet exist. You can see this on the 2018 Weekly Idol where they explain that "NCT 2018 doesn't have a leader", but now I think that Taeyong shares the leadership with Kun, since I noticed that they share the speeches and the center of the group in the awards.

@@thaynapinto6641 Look as much as I love Kun and respect him as a leader of wayv, he doesn't seem to be a leader of NCT overall. Like non-wayv members never refrenced him as a leader and they don't seem to see him that way. He obviously gets to do acceptance speches, especially in Chinese since he is the leader of wayv, but that doesn't really indicate that he is the leader of nct overall. I would love for him to also be a overall leader so that Taeyong gets to share some of the responsibilities and isn't as stressed, but it sadly doesn't seem to be true at the moment.

@@elenam3220 Dream members seem to listen to him a lot, but this impression that they do not obey or see Kun as a leader is only due to the fact that WayV and NCT have limited interactions, especially when it comes to Kun. He is one of the oldest members of WayV and has the least interaction with others. I said that they seem to TRY to include him as a leader, but not that it works. Anyway, I hope to see all NCT leaders sharing space in NCT 2021.

Taeyong is actually the leader of the entire NCT brand, as well as NCT 127. He’s also the center, main rapper, main dancer and visual!

He was always a leader because of the way he cared for his members , protected them and even helped them out in everything (he's really multi-talented check out his guide or a video about why he's an ace I'm really not saying that being biased or anything it's just that he worked haard veeery hard to be the person he is now , when he joined sm at 18 he didn't know anything about being an idol and his dance teacher told him that there's no hope for him to improve )but lately he's been confirmed to be the Leader of NCT as a whole 💚💚

Taeyong confirmed to be leader of whole NCT group now. The center with the hat on (in dance practise) is jisung, the two with the twirls are johnny and haechan. WayV isn't a thing back in 2018, there's ten debuted with NCT U "The 7th sense" in 2016, Winwin with NCT 127 in 2016 and Lucas with NCT U "BOSS" in 2018. Kun is not officially debuted when he sang with NCT U "Without You" chinese version back in 2016. There's many stories on how this 23 members in trainee period and debuting. It's irresistable to know the stories and not to liked them knowing the hardwork they had. I think NCT is stays as big project that SM ever made. But hey....it's my first time came here and see your reaction, I enjoyed it and I'm subscribing ;)

Taeyong is the CONFIRMED leader of NCT as a whole. At the time of NCT2018, I don't think he was but he always took on the leader role and everyone followed him so he naturally became the leader. Lucas debuted with NCT U "Boss" which was a few months before this performance. And he wasn't a trainee for "a long time", he trained about a year 1/2 (He entered in 2016 and debuted Febuary 2018). He only thought he was going to debut in Dream because he was the same age as Mark, but by the time his debut was secured, it was 2018 and he was already close to the graduation time (when they had that concept) plus he was tall and didn't fit the cute vibe. Honestly, what disappointed me about "Black on Black" was it didn't really showcase the entire group. Only like 5 members got some sort of lines and only the more popular members and main dancers got any sort of significant dance break. The rest of them were resorted to being backup dancers. Like, Kun's official debut was with "Black on Black" and he had no song and was in the back of "Black on Black", it felt like they added him to the group in order to make it 18 members for 2018. As for a song and getting everyone lines, it technically is possible, Seventeen and Nu'est W collabed with "Heaven" as 17 members and everyone got a line. But as a performance, I do think "Black on Black" was good, just wished it showcased ALL members. Yes, this was before WayV's debut and before XiaoJun, Hendery, and YangYang debuted. Kun debuted with NCT 2018 but he did participate in the chinese version of NCT U's "Without You" back in 2016 as a trainee. Lucas Debuted with NCT U's "Boss" earlier in 2018, Winwin debuted with NCT127's "Firetruck" in 2016, and Ten debuted with NCT U's "The 7th Sense" in 2016.

Honestly, the overall opinion of the general public back then looking at NCT was very negative because SM pushed this experimental idea that no other company had done and people were very wary of it. NCT's concept is STILL to become the group who has unlimited members..and I don't think that will change (unless ofc..for some reason SM goes SIKE! ahahah) But I'm super glad that they are now receiving positive responses and there is going to be a new unit debuting this year with possibly new members so woooohooo.

Yes, the level of talent in NCT is insane. But when you really think about it, think of the level of telent SM Entertainment has as a whole. That is why SM commands the top spot and why it's one of the big 3 entertainment companies in Korea and around the world. We wouldn't expect anything less than top talent. And just think, there are dozens of more trainees, just waiting to debut. SM cultivates talent. And that is why the company has become known as a powerhouse for vocals and dancing skills. All of its artist are super multi-talented. You know someone must be extra special if they are part of SM. You can't even debut as an SM artist without having superior vocals and/or dance skills, that's just the criteria for being an SM artist. :D SM Entertaiment is the founder of everything we know of as Kpop today and they have some of the most legendary and talented groups. SM's talent is really never ending. Which is even more mind blowing when you think of everyone who is under SM, such as Super Junior who had 15 members, Girls Generation had 9 members, EXO had 12 members, plus all the company's smaller groups -- TVXQ, SHINee, F(x), Red Velvet, TraxX, BoA, SuperM, etc. and all of these groups are known for having some of the best singers, dancers and performers. NCT-2018 was a special project created by SM Entertainment in 2018 because, at the time, there were 18 members in NCT and SM thought it was a cool contrast that the number of members reflects the year. (Kun -- the leader of WayV -- debuted as a member of NCT-2018 and he was the one that was added to the group to make them equal 18 members.) So they created this performance for "Black on Black" to highlight NCT. NCT is a very international group. The members as a whole currently represent 9 different countries and they speak 8 different languages. For example, there are 10 native Korean members (Taeyong, Doyoung, Taeil, Haechan, Jaehyun, Jeno, Jaemin, Jisung, Jungwoo, and SungChan), Mark is Korean-Canadian, Johnny is Korean-American, Yuta and Shotaro are Japanese, Ten is Thai, Lucas is Chinese-Thai from Hong Kong, YangYang is Taiwanese but he grew up in Germany, Hendery is Chinese from Macau (China) and 5 mainland Chinese members (WinWin, Kun, Xiaojun, Renjun and Chenle). However, YangYang, Hendery and Xiaojun are not in this performance because they had not debuted until 2019 and SungChan and Shotaro didn't debut until 2020. There are 13 members who aren't even from Korea and 11 of them have no Korean heritage. This is a special performance MV so it is designed to highlight the group's dance skills, it's not really about the song. This performance just highlights another aspect of what makes NCT so talented. If I remember correctly, they actually debuted this performance as a special live stage showcase, before the MV was released, or maybe in tandem with the MV. So they can do all this live, too. Taeyong is the official leader of NCT, so no matter what sub-unit you are talking about, he is the leader of everyone (Although, Kun is the leader of WayV and Mark is the captain of NCT-Dream. They all defer to Taeyong as the leader when they are all together.) -- he is the "mom" of all 22 members.Yes, Taeyong has a prominent role in almost everything they do. Plus, he is one of NCT's best dancers, he is a main rapper and he is a songwriter and producer. These days, Taeyong and Mark pretty much write all their own parts in NCT's songs. They are both gaining a reputation for being really good at turning a phrase when it comes to lyrics. Because Taeyong is so multi-talented SM features him a lot in its projects, either within NCT or even outside of the group. Some even say that Taeyong and Mark are SM's favorite NCT members because they get the most parts in every project. But Taeyong stands out because he has that leader quality that makes the leader of Kpop groups different then the other members. Leaders are just born to be leaders, and Taeyong is a good example of that. Fun fact: If you notice, when Mark first appears in the beginning, when he jumps over Taeyong, etc., he says, " ... NCT we the dream team ..." And the group that is dancing with him in front during that part are some of the members of NCT-Dream. :D Plus, NCT's whole group concept is all centered around dreams and dreaming, so they as a whole are the team that is all about dreams. Mark is the only member that debuted as an original member of NCT-U, NCT-127 and NCT-Dream and SuperM. And the blond guy in the center in the middle of the dance break section (the one with the leather hat in the dance practice) -- the one with the skills at popping -- was Jisung. Jisung is the maknae (youngest) of the whole NCT group and he is one of their best dancers. He debuted with NCT-Dream when he was only 14 and he is known for potentially becoming Taemin's carbon copy. (Taemin is a member of SHINee and SuperM, who is also a solo artist and he is considered one of the top two BEST dancers in the entire industry, SHINee is seniors to NCT, also under SM Entertainment.) Jisung and Taemin are very similar. They both took similar paths as trainees with SM (both became trainees when they were around 11 years old), they both gave up their childhood to chase their dream as a dancer and performer, they both debuted when they were 14 and they have similar dance styles and personalities, etc. Jisung idolizes Taemin and Taemin says he sees his younger self in Jisung. Lucas was the rapper in the middle of the performance who told us to "freeze!!!", who was kneeling in front during the part where they were standing on each other. (Lucas debted as a member of NCT-U in their "Boss" MV which came out a few months before "Black on Black" in 2018. He is not new to NCT in this MV. However, you are right, WayV did not debut until January 2019. But we also saw Lucas as a featured extra in Ten's solo "Dream in a Dream" MV in 2017 .) Ten is THE Soloist in NCT. He has the most solo projects of any of the members because he is their best/most skilled main dancer and he has beautiful vocals, so SM has given Ten a lot of solo songs and projects over the years. Ten is Thai and he is also a member of NCT-U, WayV and SuperM. (Ten's solo in "Black on Black" will be different every time he does it because this was freestyle.) Notice how the majority of the members who were the centers of this performance are also members of SuperM -- Taeyong, Mark, Ten and Lucas. And that is why SM chose them to be a part of that group, because they are the members of NCT who are some of the most talented, most popular and the ones that have that undefinable "it" factor. SuperM is the Kpop industry's very first supergroup which is made up of members from all of SM's most popular groups, which includes EXO, SHINee, NCT and WayV. NCT is a group with an infinite number of members and an ever growing number of sub-units. It has been said that SM has an unknown number trainees who are waiting in the wings to someday debut as members of NCT. Right now, SM's plan is to make NCT the group that never ends and never stops growing and expanding until they have a sub-unit representing every major city in every country in the world. NCT was created to help SM accomplish its plan of world music industry domination. ;P

Well Mark says NCT we're the dream chaser. And when he said that out of the 4 members dancing with him only 1 is from NCT DREAM: Jaemin. Other are Lucas, Jungwoo and Johnny. There is nothing to do with NCT Dream here.

@@cthgmbr3205 Yes, we were first introduced to Kun in NCT's "Without you" MV, however, for reasons I am not sure of, SM does not consider that his debut. If you ask SM, Kun debuted as a member of NCT-2018 making their numbers officially reach 18 members. I'm not sure why they only consider his appearance in "Without You" as a special appearance and not his debut, but that is there official position. When NCT-2018 was on Weekly Idol and they explained how everyone and everything was connected in NCT, they even mentioned how Kun had just debuted in NT-2018 even though he was first a seen in "Without You" 2 years prior to that.

Yes, TaeYong has 22 children in NCT. In 2018, they said they haven’t decided on a leader cause it was sort of like a project but you should see videos of TaeYong taking care of his kids. He would count them like little chicks, make sure that everyone is accounted for and in the car or on stage already. During this time NCT only had 2 unites 127 and Dream but 4 members were added to United - Lucas, Ten and Kun (who is now leader of WayV) and JungWoo who eventually joined 127. I love watching reaction videos of NCT cause it makes me feel proud of them. They’re so talented musically and performance wise in dancing. Not to mention that they’re ALL visually good looking. They’re good kids. They’re very respectful and to top it all very hardworking. They’re funny, loving and adorable. I am so proud to be an NCTzen. Shotaro and SungChan are a welcome edition to NCT2020. They’re extremely talented too. Shotaro’s debut fan cam have views in the millions. SungChan is sooooo good looking and can rap smoothly. Excited for him because he just recently became an Inkigayo host. He will debut tomorrow as MC.

The tricky thing about being an NCTzen is that when I see some groups with at least 13 members I will comment "gosh that's a lot of members!" totally forgetting that I have 23 boys in my heart that I even remember their birth dates! there is a saying: stan NCT before have 100 members. it's not a lie :) Btw, this a little journey about NCT, NCT debuted in 2016 and have 15 members: - Taeyong, Taeil, Yuta, Johnny, Doyoung, Winwin, Jaehyun, Mark and Haechan (NCT 127) - Renjun, Jeno, Jaemin, Jisung and Chenle (NCT Dream +Mark Haechan) - Ten (NCT U) Then in 2018 they debuted Lucas, Kun and Jungwoo so they have 18 members (Jungwoo added in NCT 127, Lucas Kun still no have unit). In 2019 they debuted Xiaojun, Hendery and Yangyang so they have 21 members. They debuted in unit called WayV (+Kun, Lucas, Ten and Winwin). In 2020 they debuted Sungchan and Shotaro so they have 23 members and they unit will announced asap.

I think most nctzen's were pretty happy with Black on Black which is why so many were kind of disappointed with Resonance. I don't mind Resonance but Black on Black definitely hypes you up more but Resonance is really good for live performances or awards shows so all units and members get some time to shine

Lucas, Jungwoo, and Kun technically debuted in NCT 2018, like how Sungchan and Shotaro debuted with NCT 2020! They were just in NCT U for a while, then WayV debuted January 1st 2019! and yeah these songs, BoB and Resonance were all basically created to be used for end of year stages lol

I don't know if someone commented about it but Black on Black was first performed at the end of 2016 for MAMA. So at that time they weren't 18 but they still highlighted the dancers of the group and for example Jisung and Jeno had the same part. But it wasn't totally the same version as this one. It is an extended and new version of that performance from that time. Btw I agree with you. I always like the dance practice version better because it looked more impressive that way. Some cuts from the performance video doesn't really show how great they are without effects. Also, I also prefer Black on Black as a team performance compared to RESONANCE even if Resonance managed to have more members vocally showcased (compared to only 3 in black on black). As a group performing it feels... a little bit less effective. They had less time to prepare it too (and that's why they had to change some formations that weren't working that well after they did it for the 1st award show). Also there is no Jisung dancing for RESONANCE because he was injured and I keep wondering which center time he would have got in it....

Lucas debuted the same time as Jungwoo in NCT U Kun also debuted, but he's uncredited on a chinese version of Without You and didn't get into any MVs except Black on Black until WayV. WayV was supposed to launch (as NCT Vision I think) but there were complications and it was postponed and ended up with the whole WayV being under another company owned by SM and not branded NCT. It was a whole thing lol. They'd even teased Hendery, YangYang and Xiaojun as SMrookies in the leadup

black on black is better than resonance imo bc its a full song and the 2018 empathy project was planned a little better and spread out across a better timeline. lucas and jungwoo debuted with boss as the newest members ^^ wayv debuted the year after. id recommend you react to the 2018 yearbook videos! its for only 18 members, but it's a cool introductory video to them. i prefer yearbook #2 which is waaay cooler (#1 is like a skincare ad with them just from the shoulders up lol)

Essay ahead to answer some questions lol - Taeyong is NCT's overall leader - About the WayV members in black on black: Winwin was already in 127 and the others had their debut through NCT U (Lucas in Boss, Ten in The 7th sense and Kun participated in the chinese version of Without you in 2016 but his "official" debut was in NCT 2018) - NCT 2018 project had 18 members so 5 were added since then: Xiaojun, Yangyang and Hendery through WayV and Shotaro and Sungchan through NCT U - You got Jisung in the center right - The ones that did the twirls (if I'm not mistaken) were Johnny and Haechan - Jeno is pronounced the way you said at first - It was Yuta with the hat jumping before Lucas

Yes! That was center Jisung leading the members, he was only 16 at the time which is crazy. Imagine being center is dance with 17 other people and you're the youngest. And then yeah that was Jeno and Yuta afterwards! Jeno is pronounced "Jeh-No". Lucas, Jungwoo and Kun officially joined NCT and debuted in 2018. Jungwoo and Lucas's first song was NCT U - Boss, then Jungwoo joined NCT 127 and Lucas debuted with WayV a year later in 2019. Same thing with Sungchan and Shotaro, they debuted in NCT with an NCT U song, but they're going to be put into a new unit this year. Yes 2020 confirmed Taeyong as leader of NCT as a whole. Every unit has it's own leader (127 - Taeyong, WayV - Kun, Dream - Mark and Jeno), but Taeyong leads them all together. Back in 2018 though he was only 127's leader but the official center and visual of the group hence the focus on him. Personally, I enjoy Resonance A LOT more than Black on Black because Resonance just feels more epic and I can enjoy the song more than Black on Black. I like Black on Black's choreo more, but I don't like the line distribution.
