Jacques Brel makes me want to learn French. The way he told stories in his music was absolutely amazing and on another level. The way he could connect with emotion was just brilliant. I wish there were more people like him who could pull off what he did in such a beautiful, artistic, and classy way. But I guess the reason why there aren't is because he was so one of a kind!

There has never been, and there will never be, a better interpretation of this song, no matter what other versions are made. I have never seen an artistic performance as powerful as this man’s dedication-the way he genuinely feels what he’s singing, that desperate smile, and how he almost stops singing to beg, giving the impression that he could break down in tears at any moment. These lyrics are beautiful, but this interpretation is essential.

This is one of the most moving songs I’ve ever heard. I just discovered it a few years ago. The combination of his singing and the piano are pure magic. Barbra Streisand said she went to see him as this is one of her favorite songs. He didn’t sing it and she was heartbroken. It made her realize how important it is to sing fan favorites and how her music could have the same meaning to her fans. After this experience she made sure to include as many as possible when she performs.

The fact that he could write and interpret the pain and desperation felt by the possibility or fact of his lover leaving him is absolutely without words. I don't think it's naive so much as underappreciated by the commercially minded... A lot more people are dissatisfied with social media and there's a high likelihood community live theater will become a kind of social hub in places nationwide because characters of every human type are included in many historic plays from the time of the Greeks. "It's always darkest before the dawn." :) Hope is how the heart resurrects, so don't despair.

Paradoxes d’Eros !
