I'd like to point out that Neal Barnard is 60 years old and looks about 40. Colin Campbell and Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr. are both almost 80 years old and look about 60. Anybody criticizing their diets should think about these facts.

Dr. Barnard is one of the brightest shining stars of the health movement. His presentation style and affect are wonderful. Regarding Soy (the last question asked) I had very negative allergic reactions to Soy Milk, burgers (Isolated Soy protein) and this went undetected for 10 years. Today, I stay as far away from Soy as possible.

Aww, I feel you with the food allergies. I am allergic to a lot of foods that went undetected for decades. Luckily soy is not one of them but I don't use any processed soy or anything processed for that matter. I make my own plant milks.

Brilliant lecture!!!!!!! I went on a whole food plant based diet 6 month ago. In the first 5 months I lost 22 kgs (48 pounds), my blood tests are perfect (I had high triglycerides, high cholesterol and high levels of uric acide) and I'm feeling better that ever. And above that, because I couldn't order junk food anymore, I discovered the joy of cooking :)

@@vamshireddy5471 Extremely low oil intake (even olives), added sugar, saturation fat, too much salt, dairy, meat. Eat less than half a cup seed, nuts. If you're facing trouble even avoid them. And if possible, make sure to completely avoid all oils, you will get all essential oils from beans, legumes, grains, fruits, vegetables. Take multivitamin without metal supplement for b12.

We have the most accomplished, distinguished and life saving doctors on our side: Neal Barnard, Dean Ornish, Caldwell Esselstyn, T. Colin Campbell, John McDougall, Joel Fuhrman, Michael Greger, among many others. These animal product based diets are based on books written by completely unqualified people, who, if they have phd's are in completely unrelated fields if they have one at all. These paleo diet gurus sell books, supplements, memberships and use completely outrageous and debunked pseudoscience to support their book selling. All the plant based diet heroes are constantly giving their information and help for free or donating to charities and science. They are trying to help people reverse their deadly diseases while these paleo or whatever new fad diet people are trying to make millions by telling people good things about their bad habits. People love to hear that their morning bacon and eggs is healthy. These paleo and other animal products based diet pushers sure don't look healthy to me.

Hell yeah, High Five! People have no critical thinking skills, and are terrified of straying from the herd. Big picture thinking is extremely rare, and it is what is required to look past the sea of reductionist junk science that scammers use to fleece the gullible public and sell poison and pills. Here is an awesome playlist, just studying these videos will give you more nutrition truth than a room full of drug-dealing doctors will ever know. : kzbin.info/aero/PLzsNjiS0JLDKfk7emsu0p47bLQeXyxSU0

Almost everyone I know refuses to face the truth. My own husband sees the improvements I have made in my health. And yet he smokes, drinks, eats meat, eggs, milk. He is just not going to change. He seems incapable of caring enough about his health to do anything. He will wait until he gets cancer before he decides to do anything. I just don't understand it. It is like he thinks he is a very special mammal, who is exempt from what happens to others. Denial ain't just a river in Egypt. I will never understand it. Dr. Bernard is great, and is not afraid to speak the truth.

When I starting reading this, I thought it was a comment I had written. lol My husband is the same way. He doesn't smoke but has heart disease and has had cancer but says "nobody can tell me an egg a day ever hurt anybody."

Glad you’re taking care of yourself and your health! Unfortunately, you can’t speak for him or control how he eats. As long as he’s aware that his actions are detrimental to his health, the rest is on him. It’s very unfortunate, but unless he wakes up and realizes that things need to change drastically for him, he’ll continue to do what he’s doing until it’s met with consequences.

Great video, especially liked comments regarding using diet before drugs to solve health issues. Problem is healthcare receives no $ from this approach & is therefore unlikely to be method used. We need more physicians (MD's & DO's) who think/practice what is right instead of getting 'repeat customers' & drug kickbacks by getting more patients on their 'subscription'. How can this problem be remedied in light of ACA?

>>All I know is before I was dx'd as a diabetic I was basically a vegetarian. No meat, cheese or eggs, lots of veggies, pasta, brown rice and quinoa. When I was dx'd in 2007 my HbA1c was 10.00,fasting 240. My cholesterol was 269. Now that I have started eating meat and cheese and eggs and watching carbs my LDL is 98, HDL is 88 and Trigs are 97. My HbA1c is 5.9, fasting 97. I have lost 27 pounds and am now 122 pounds with a normal BMI. I think I have done a lot to extend my life and health. By Barnard's standard I would be on the way to my grave. I think if I had stayed a vegetarian I probably would be a lot worse off. My daughter is a vegan and actually works as a vegan chef and caterer. She is not slim and trim and has works out like crazy and is still overweight. So leading a vegan lifestyle doesn't automatically lead to a healthier life.

Just a note for anyone who'd like to keep an iron pan going a few hundred more years: My skillets don't rust in the rain, not on the cooking surface. If they did, they'd be useless to me for cooking without proper preparation. That pan needs help in a bad way if anyone was going to use it for cooking. I challenge anyone to show me proof or iron transfer from properly seasoned pan to the food cooked in it. A 1/2 tsp of oil is all that's necessary to keep a properly seasoned iron or steel pan (I use antique steel mostly) functional for nearly oil-free cooking. And that's the only oils I use. WFPB over 3 years now and love the new me-weight loss was effortless, and there's no reason to "go back" (or desire). 50-something years--FINALLY got my eating choices to heal me, not harm me. Lucky I caught it so young eh?.

Someone mentioned in this post that Dr. Barnard is 60, if that is the case I have to say as I have personally observed if you want to look your best, eat better foods. So many people are looking for ointments, makeup and other topical solutions to improve their appearance when the fact is you are what you eat. Want to change the way you look? Change what you eat. Want to change your mind? Pay attention to what you eat. Want to improve your overall health? Pay attention to what you eat. All roads lead to the same place, it's what you eat.

Another point: in our evolutionary history, we developed cooking, maybe 1.5 million years ago, and this allowed us to process both meat and plants, making them softer and more digestible and influencing the evolutionary enlargement of our brain, our dentition (our teeth are good at munching soft food, so we don't have typical carnivore teeth). So ancestrally we ate both meat and plants (more plants), and it lead to our large brains, among other things. Eating meat in our past evolutionary history does not mean that we can't get all the nutrition we need from plants, and that's our best option now.

Agree with most of Dr Barnard's information. Believe he needs or should look into Virgin Coconut oil a little further, and in so doing, will probably find that unrefined Coconut oil is part of a heart healthy diet, and confers a plethora of health benefits. MCT's are metabolized differently in the body than other fatty acids, and are beneficial to the body. Coconut is one of the few natural sources of Lauric Acid, a powerful anti-microbial, anti-fungal, & anti-viral. One simply needs to look at indigenous populations who, before adopting Western eating habits, enjoyed one of the lowest rates of heart disease when coconut made up a large portion of their diet.
