@@ImJustaWill I think more the second part. I’ve listened to him quite a bit; and he’s a smart, insightful guy, and generally communicative.😜 It’s a complex subject that involves the private relationship of two public people. He’s a very open person, but I think also being mindful of the relationship and DC’s privacy, and perhaps navigating some tricky dynamics that may be challenging to discuss publicly.

@@moreovaltineplz1his earlier interviews are more revealing. He basically said the studio pitted them against each other while negotiating salaries and Dave signed his deal without a care for what his co-creator would get. He’s also said Dave basically called him a racist on Oprah and he had no way of getting ahold of him after he went to Africa. I’m sure the success went to Neal’s head but it caused Dave to go crazy. What’s interesting is the perceived failure of Half Baked ruined their friendship for years. And the success of CS did as well. So glad I’m a bum.

The very end actually did say alot …..he more or less was saying that Dave let him down at times but he doesn’t have the right to bitch about that cause Dave gave him the opportunity. In that Dave was a comedian and Neal was a doorman who wanted to be a comedian who was less known Then at the end when he joked that you’d have to put his head in a vice….he was saying that disrespectful shit does cross his mind when thinking about Dave but he would never say it out loud (unless you tortured him lol) It’s basically how a person would talk about a family member. There’s love there and it’s way too strong for anything else to matter…..but there’s little stuff that could have gone differently in Neal’s mind

I believe there is tension between most great artists who collaborate. often it is that friction that polishes their art and is the root of their success . Look at the Beatles, van halen, the stones. I believe Keith Richard said I have never hated or loved anyone more than Mick Jagger in my entire life. I think that sums it up pretty well right there.

Neal is usually a pretty articulate guy... and had a hard time explaining a real long friendship. But I knew what he was trying to say. Chappelle is a complex guy and whoever gets to be co-worker & friend coming up in those in & out of Hollywood for years & years is not going to have a regular anything with Chappelle. I get the feeling Neal is one of the few that can hold his own with Chappelle... in exchange of ideas, writing, humor & discussion. And how to phrase the ups & downs, the frequent back & forth to the mobths with no contact of a relationship? You can't... but he still said a lot.

@@Altoclefkitty way further back, Neal and Dave met and became co-writers on jokes when they were on the NYC circuit, both only 18. There is a long history there. They knew and worked together at the beginning of their careers and, when Dave’s took off, he helped Neal al lot, but Neal did help write a bit on Chappell Show or they’d have never hit the original season’s deadlines which would have had serious financial consequences for Dave right before the show became a rocket ship. I’m not sure I’d go so far as to say Dave respects Neal in the same way Neal respects Dave, he has to, but Dave is aware that Neal, in his own way, did help make him successful.
