Beth’s one of the best stand ups around right now imo. One of those comedians that is subversive and edgy without making their whole personality about how edgy they are, if that makes sense

I'm married to the right person after only being in very flawed relationships and I can vouch that it's weird. You expect it to be difficult sometimes and it never is. You expect that they'll lose their attraction to you and they never do. You expect that eventually a slowly-widening void will form between you and it never does. You hear people always complaining about their partners and you want to tell them life doesn't have to be that way but you know no one will believe you until they experience it. I get it -- this thing isn't supposed to exist. Beth sounds like someone who has found this impossible thing and I'm thrilled for her. I love her and I was very happy to see her face pop up in the new thumbnail.

This episode brings up an excellent point that should be reiterated constantly nowadays: you can blame your parents for your actions until you are 30, after that point it's all on you. Adults take responsibility for their actions and endeavor to change for the better or at least own their behavior.

Many kinds of abuse and trauma only can be understood clearly (in a way that can be dealt with emotionally), when people are in their mid-30s or 40s - for example narcissistic and sexual abuse. There is no cut-off arbitrary age. Often people relive the trauma when their own kids are born and the therapy journey begins there.

Hey Neal! I’m a fan and a subscriber and, like Beth Stelling, I just watched your comedy special! May I ask something as someone who is a caretaker and very close to many autistic people? Could you consider changing “Asperger’s” to “Autism” in the future (obviously, your current special is already on Netflix, so it is as it is). You probably won’t see this, but I just felt compelled to try and mention it since you are someone who spreads information on mental health awareness and inclusion, and not just a comedian Also, I really appreciated Beth’s perspective in this interview! I appreciate this episode!

Always love Beth, so much so, I've stopped adding an R to her last name. There are people on this podcast that tell a story or a feeling that I relate to and then there are people for whom their whole deal I relate to. I know its dumb but so many of Beth's experiences and her feelings about those experiences are at worst the green part of the bullseye to mine.

I'm not in a romantic relationship right now. Haven't been for quite a while and it may be awhile yet before I do again, but I absolutely believe in accountability. If I screw up at work, I own it. And EVERYONE- my bosses, my powers and those "under" me look at me like I grew another head. It's so disappointing. It feels like our society will never be in a place that accountability is normal. It makes me very sad.

Neal, can't tell you how much i love the podcast! One point of constructive criticisism - i personally wouldn't mix your "yeas" out of the conversation. For one, if folks are using good headphones, we can still hear your affirmations in the mix, they are just turned down and it is slightly distracting. I understand the temptation to take a few out here and there, but it takes me right of the natural flow of the conversation and i remember, oh yea, this is a podcast and not a real conversation, or whatever. Keep it as natural and real as possible and keep your "yeas" in there!! obviously just my opinion, and i will listen regardless!

Wow Neal is very taken with this woman. I never seen him gush over someone before. Smiling, happy and extra nice. The oxytocin and dopamine pumping and filling the normally cracked and dry tubes in his brain that normally handle those chemicals. And look at the smile on the video thumbnail....its very possible for him to give a warm smile ..im shocked! The right woman can do a lot for a man i suppose.

I really dis like the term daddy issues. It's so dismissive and shaming. If you had a sick abusive father you're gonna to have issues with men. Let's not shame women with the term. Or shame men if they have issues with women because their mothers were abusive and have "mommy issues."
