Hey Karstan… great job fixing that air leak… “HOT TIP” mate… get yourself a small bench vice and attach it somewhere to the back of your truck, for all those little jobs that needs to be held tight when dismantling things!!!! Cheers Rod

Can't believe people just drive on knowing you are there on your own , with mechanical problems. We would never do that. Just as well you are a mechanic and know how to get yourself out of trouble. Those tanks should be galvanised inside and out. Good on you Karstan!

What a pearler of an episode. It has everything...dust, trees, flowers. Karsten's awesome ability to fix anything. Max's supreme skill as a mum..and handy tips for wraps (get sauerkraut!). The great outdoors, Starlink, drone...lovely chubby men in the 'pub'. Nice lady making yummy stuff for visitors. And real life un-scripted life on the road. Most of all...a pearler because it shows the love and the respect between Karsten and Max, their resourcefulness, happy outlook and determination. And again, how brilliant is Karsten that he stills says please and thank you, pass me the 'whatever' while lying under a truck in the dust for hours. Manners maketh man....what a guy... and how brilliant that you two met as you are made for each other like no other... and of course, lucky little kids!!

Thanks, guys, for another awesome episode. My dad is a retired mechanic and the nostalgia that this brought up for me was lovely. We never went to remote areas like your journey, but I have fond memories of us kids piled in the car with my parents and dad having to tinker under the hood when things went wrong. I'm 51 now and my favourite thing to do with my sister and parents on visits up there is a road trip. I am loving watching your travels :).

I discovered the same thing on my camper trailer, so I now use a large computer fan to extract the warm air from the locker where the inverter is located, and filtered cooler air is admitted to the locker via a car air cleaner fastened over a stainless steel gauze inlet with a slotted vent over it to prevent rain getting in. The filter is essential, and the gauze keeps out flies and any other insects. The inverters have their own fans, but they have to be sucking in cool air, not the same air they just removed,

Spare starter motor, spare fan belts , fuel filters , fuel pump ,tool kit , the list gets longer , the further out west you go 👍 Tip , “ Sellys Aqua need it “, it’s a two part putty that sticks hardens into polymer , that can patch cracks and holes in fuel tanks , it’s good stuff . You can mix it in your fingers , hardens in minutes , and will fix a hole in a dingy , hardening underwater . It’s easy to get at hardware shops , and is handy for fixing things , bush mechanising , and just have a tube in your tool bag .

Good work repairing the Truck. I feel for you as I’ve been there before in the middle of Algeria in the Sahara desert with a group of 40 passengers when the fuel pick up broke and the other driver said let’s just wait for some parts to be shipped from the UK ! Instead, I repaired it with some garden hose, hose clips, a few sockets and a lot of Kiwi ingenuity. Also similar issues with the blown engine north of the Arctic Circle in Sweden on a remote back road this is all in the 90s both times before phones were available to phone easily.
@KarstanAndMaxine22 күн бұрын
there is always a fix for most situations ... you would have some stories !!
@overland_adventure_nz22 күн бұрын
@KarstanAndMaxine Yes I worked out if I couldn’t fix it with a Swiss Army knife it was broken. Once drove from Switzerland to the UK with no windscreen wiper motor after it seized up solid. All the passions said I should wait for the rain to stop but the weather forecast was for rain for the next 5 to 7 days, they won Australian girl suggested a bit of string to pull the windscreen wiper back-and-forth! All the mail passengers started laughing how silly this was ! I tend to say that’s a brilliant idea. Sent all the passengers looking for some string or something suitable in their bags. No one had anything. I sat down thinking about it and then realised that I had some 5 mm climbing rope for washing line so they found my bag got it out removed all the pigs etc. During this time some of the other passengers made up at roster for the next five days of torrential rain they all took turns with sometimes the past is asking why slowing down and I said it was because of the slow wiper speed and then swap pulling the wiper back back-and-forth through the drivers window and the front door at work to brilliantly only had to stop and remove it before tollgates because usually there was always police on the other side of tollgates and we didn’t want them catching the string across the windscreen. That’s just one of many, but working as a driver was a way of paying for my travels which worked out brilliantly and always had new friends behind me on each new trip or should I say new passengers? Enjoy following your adventures going forward and you gave me some ideas with my Troopy build over here in New Zealand. 👍

Hey guys, I loved yet another episode! Good your honest and showing the problems happening with the oka. As I would love one one day. ( Hard to just sneak one past the wife like I usually do) With your inverter problems, I think you might need either a bigger inverter or double up with them. They get very hot when working close to their max capacity which doesn't help in the heat, if you can run 2 and half capacity they will never get too hot. In theory.. 😅 I hope you get it all worked out. Also get a computer Fan onto it pumping cooler air from the cab straight into it

Looks like you need an AC duct for the inverter to keep it happy, too. Noccundra hotel is awesome. I landed on the airstrip out the back on an outback flying pub crawl about 35 years ago, and they put on a great lunch for us at short notice (3x 6 seater plane loads). I revisted it about 3 months ago in our caravan and spent the night near the same tree beside the Lagoon. 15:56

will definitely have to find a solution over Christmas
@chrisdepodolinsky121922 күн бұрын
Maybe you could install a small fan or 2 to circulate AC cooled air from the living compartment, through the inverter enclosure similar to what's used in computer cabinets. They could be switched on automatically using a thermostatic switch once the temperature reached a certain level, which probably already exists in the inverter. I'd be installing a manual override switch as well just in case it's needed somewhere remote.

Hey K&M, epic adventure, looks like OKA are using "Chineseium" air receivers using chopsticks welds. Karsten I see you're still wearing that "historic" shirt. You sure had me laughing, thats the most graphic description of a "follow through" fart I've seen since 1970, the Rigger on our construction crew at Liddell Power station "squeezed" one out walking up stairs and had the "follow through" experience. We put the hose through his shorts back at the workshop. Travel safe you adventurous folks.

Kombi vs OKA 😂…. This is the running in period … she’ll be right mate! Happy birthday Zu. Travelling Nov out west is a bitch even when you have the best Overlander!!

Broke down in my Combi in Death Valley California , 1970. Had to drop the engine and pull cylinder and piston. Hitchhike back to Las Vegas for a used one.
