These videos seem to always come right on time. I have just loaded 50 rounds with neolube 2 for the first time and I'm going to shoot them tomorrow. I applied the compound to both contact surfaces using a lint-free swab. Maybe it was just a placebo effect but it felt like a smoother bullet seating operation. There was no measurable difference in concentricity. We'll see how it goes but for such a low price, if there is an advantage, I will take it and run. Thanks for uploading!

Something I’ve learned from all your videos and data is that the longer you take to reload a round with more steps the more consistent it is. Which isn’t surprising considering you are removing any anomalies.

if l can add, neck turning is more to me about centering the bullet in the case if you are using bushing dies if you are using bushing dies without neck turning and have thicker necks to one side of the case the bullet is pushed off centre toward the thinner side, it is also about the case fitting the chamber consistency in seating is more to do with neck tension so if you are looking for consistent bullet seating as l am, you would neck turn for an equal release, l also polish the inside of the neck with an old cleaning brush wrapped in steel wool spun in a drill press for a few seconds and lube the neck before seating what l look for as an indicator is when l pull a bullet there are no scratches on the bullet so the bullet looks as if it were never seated anyway thats just my thoughts and l would like to tell you how much l enjoy your utube channel thankyou for all your efforts

I did try this and it works very well! Mixing up the slurry was easy and straight forward. I mixed a small amount in an old cleaning brush case. What I did find the next day was the alcohol had evaporated through the thin plastic leaving a thick paste. The cure was using 1 ounce glass containers I bought off Amazon with metal screw caps. This allowed me to mix more solution and no loss of alcohol over time. PERFECT!

I've also tried graphite and moly lubes. Their messy. One drop of 3-in-one oil in a box of bullets works just as good. 100 bullets in a plastic sandwich bag, tumble them around in your hand. Only one drop is necessary and it cuts the seating friction.

What kind of moly lubes have you tried? I use a product that's moly suspended in a liquid that evaporates, use q-tip to apply it to several cases before adding another drop and moving on. By the time I finish 50 or 100 or however many cases I'm going to be loading, they're dry. It's even easy enough to do AFTER charging with powder and before bullet seating, which I like

In my experience annealing leaves an oxide layer on the brass, no matter what type of annealer you use. It can be removed by brushing, tumbling clean with rice, or wet tumbling. Removing it greatly reduces seating pressure. Using medium grain rice in a dry tumbler works and it's the most convenient.

If you clean your brass you are creating more seating force. A lot of us in benchrest do not because that hard carbon burnt surface inside the case neck makes for nice easy low seating force

What sort of concentricity measurements are you getting out of your Wilson bullet seater? I formerly used them until I bought a concentricity gauge then after comparing the Wilson to a Redding competition seater I found that the Redding seater was giving better concentricity.

Eons ago, used Mica dry powder, just for runing the neck expander ball to ease friction (neat green plastic case neck lubber from RCBS with three brushes for dif cals) , not to lube bullet bases, If the shells were good the bullets were the major accuracy factor, Got MOA accuracy from my old 1917 Enfield, long before case trimming, neck consistency, flash hole reaming and you name it Sometimes simple works, Today do a bit more case care than 40 yrs ago, but 1/2 MOA or less isn't my goal, Deer at 150 Yds if way out yonder, and if cases get a bit green, steel wool, hawn't cold weld issues, Storage might have to do, and pulled some bullets for other reasons

Looking into graphite and its properties and how abrasive it is. In machining it tends to wear out tooling quite fast and if using graphite lube diamond tooling is recommended. Knowing that, what effect does this have on the barrel ?

I would think that turning the outside of the necks wouldn't really have an effect on seating force, whereas using an IDOD to get the insides might, especially after fire forming where the necks are more consistent on the outside for sizing and then internally for seating.

Thanks for making this video. I really like the time spent watching to information received ratio. Watching it, and those made by others I seem to see a common feature. The pressure curves have a section in the middle that is relatively smooth and consistent. Could we take advantage of this by lengthening a chamber's free bore so that seating ended in this section? I wonder what that would do (if anything) as far as improving consistency of velocity.

Bolt Action, It appears that some people don’t think Neolube 2 is better than graphite and everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, I am moving from graphite to Neolube 2 because I am concerned with proven confirmable data. I urge those that doubt your results to watch the videos on this subject that Witch Doctor did comparing Neolube and graphite. All his testing makes extensive use of statistical analysis and may turn off some people. But in the words of Erik Cortina “what others say works I don’t assume it’s the truth until I test it myself” That is what I intend to do with Neolube. I would encourage you to take a look at Witch Doctor’s videos, especially his testing of primers. Thanks and I do enjoy your videos. Your work with mandrels convinced me to use them. Keep em small!

Hi Steve, I have seen most of the videos he has posted. I am very thankful for guys like him that are willing to publish their information. They are too few and far between (IMO). I plan on a more extensive test in the future, but you have to start somewhere. I have rewatched his primer videos a couple of times but just can't drag out what I should test personally. I have been digging in to a lot of Brian Litz work at the moment talking about statistics and sample sizes and I am trying to distil that down into something that is digestible by most folks.

Good information I been thinking of using neo lube for awhile now because I used a lube over time it would cause neck welding I shot some cases had been loaded for 6 or 7 year the necks would even split so I put some in seater die and just adjusted it down USF enough to break the weld it would pop and shot them no split necks and shot good I didn’t move the bullet enough to hurt my seating depth I watched winning in the wind he was using neo lube also I’m thinking neo lube will dry before seating might just take care of my problem

I use graphite neck lube but more so for a time loaded issue. Most if not all of my loads are for hunting. Yeah they are accurate but I really don't compete. What I find if you take a cartridge you have reloaded and it been sitting around for a 1year or two. Try Reseating the bullet on the press just .001 just to try. You'll find it pops or creeks like a rocking chair when it breaks position. That's the metals brass and whatever the bullet is using have created a small bond. That can make a big difference on a straight cold bore shot, especially on a hunting trip. But dry lubing the neck you leave a film b/w the two metals that reduces the chances of the two metals creating that bond. You don't have that break or crack when the bullet moves. Just my 2 cents.

Witchdoctor did a whole statistical analysis about this. Lou Murdica uses lube when he's testing for the big bullet and ammo manufacturers. It does create a statistical advantage to use the lube. Keith, Winning in the Wind, also uses NeoLube #2. It doesn't offset bad reloading practices. It simply helps when seating a bullet, and can help prevent damage to the bullet as well better release and protection of the neck when using lubes. Lotta big names use lubes on their necks. I can see a difference using graphite, using the AMP Press. The lube creates a much smoother and even graphing of seating force.

Much of your testing is a lot of nothing. If you want to use lube seating bullets fine. The best thing to use is dry neck lube because it will be consistent. Any other type of lube will not be as consistent. Many lubes will change the velocities and make them lower. Why not just use moly coated bullets. They are consistent, but messy and you lose velocity. Having said that they shoot more consistent like dry lube. All of your charts are pretty much meaningless imaginary tests.
@BoltActionReloading
@BoltActionReloading 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Garry, The purpose of the video is to understand how these things change or do not change the seating force as well as the consistency. "Experts" will be happy to tell you do this or not that, but seldom do you get to see the actual data their conclusions are based on. The charts aren't imaginary anything, its real force information to measure the force and consistency of the process. I believe it is Peter Drucker who said "You can’t improve what you don’t measure.” If you don't have a baseline you don't know. I plan on doing a follow up comparing the differences of several lube options, as well as a follow up to these rounds. I am curious why dry neck lube (I assume you are referring to the Redding dry neck lube or something else?) will be consistent and others are not? Moly coating on projectiles will change the velocity, but this is not that. The liquid I show in the video dries very quick as it is just graphite suspended in alcohol. The average velocity drop on the stock brass with and without lube was 2 fps in this case, so not a huge change if you can call it that anyway. Either way this is not designed to prove anyone right or wrong, but simply to help others understand what is changing as a result of performing an operation. BAR
