@sowhat... Жыл бұрын
Why do you think they're impractical?
@sowhat... Жыл бұрын
So neckbands are wired and wireless at the same time? 😂
@abtin1 Жыл бұрын
Yes, the neckbands are wired in that the two buds are connected via a wire, but they are otherwise wireless in terms of connecting to your phone/computer. The fully wireless buds are impractical because, if you want to take one or both out of your ears, you must find a pocket or something to put them in, and it's annoying to dig them back out of your pockets. Especially when you just need them out for a short time. Conversely, you can pull a neckband earbud or both out of your ears and simply drop it and it will stay around your neck. No need for a pocket. No need to pull it back out of your pocket. This is especially a big deal if you work with your hands and they are dirty or wearing gloves. Then, when you want them back in, they are easy access around your neck and you can fit them back in your ears without worrying about dropping them. If you haven't tried them out, I suggest you give it a shot.

Here is some, based on my experience with both types. :) 1. Cable is microphonic, that is the sound you hear when the cable rub into your shirt and get passed into your ear. The neckband style suffer from this and depending to the cable material, some is worse than the other. True wireless completely eliminate this problem. 2. Cable still limit your head movement. For example, when I turn my head to the side, the cable (as weightless as it is) could pull the earphone in my ear even just a tiny bit. This break the seal and I need to adjust the earphone again. True wireless don't have this issue. 3. Some neckband style earphones don't magnetically attach to each other. Walking around with these hanging around from my neck is a pain, they wiggle right and left, very annoying. When I have enough of wiggling and I want to store this thing in my bag? It took more space than any true wireless with their case. 4. Cable is still a weak point, the connection between the cable and earpiece is the most common break point. Some plastic cable sleeve could peel too after a while. You need to take care when storing this neckband earphones, making sure the cable doesn't get bend too much, and so on. On true wireless, just put in the case and forget.

Even with moderate abuse, with the exception of beats (aka apple) 100% wired earbuds, I've never had a wire break. since I was a kid 25 yrs ago using $5 - $10 headphones when there was no such thing as earbuds. 4 B. Ever try using neckbuds while doing Crossfit? Also, ever have the dangling, magnetically clasped neckbuds get caught on someone else's bag on a packed train? Neckbuds also don't stow as elegantly in its own case when you really want to put it away, in a pocket or small bag/purse with limited storage space. My point: there are many use cases where earbuds are more convenient. There's a reason why neckbuds never really caught on that's far beyond marketing. As technology shrinks, the computers we use every day shrink too. Neckbuds we're a necessary step towards earrbuds and have a few niche benefits. You're getting old and believe in the conveniences that you enjoyed. But technology evolves. Good luck with replacing the battery on your neckbuds. And look how much of a footprint those products leave behind as well. Packaging size included.

When im on the subway I like how discreet my wf-1000 xm3's are. I enjoy the noise cancellation when on the many buses and trains. My favorite part and why I don't do neckbands is because of the hair products and etc that I use, (plus I have African American hair), constantly get all over normal headphones especially over ears and neck bands. Also I can wear my beanies and not deal with wires getting caught and tangled on my clothes or surrounding objects. My big reason was because I used to use my kz as10s for my commuting needs and besides no noise cancellation I would constantly rip them out of my ears getting caught on objects and didn't want to risk breaking them or damaging the connectors. (I know it's kind of ridiculous going from 60$ iems to 230$ earbuds to not risk breaking the cheaper one but this came with a lot of good features I use 5 days a week 4-5 hours a day.) My biggest annoyance is the random disconnects and them having a hard time connecting to my phone when wearing heavy clothing.

1. Neckbands still have wires dangling around and it just gets in the way when you eat or when you're wearing thick clothes and basically the wires just touch your face from time to time and it sucks. 2. The bone conductor kind is ideal for commuting or working out but when you wanna sit down, have a cup of coffee and enjoy your music? Oops, you can hear everything going on in the background. 3. True wireless earphones are easier to keep. When I bring out a pair of earphones I don't use them all the time, but it's easily accesible when I do (you're exaggerating how hard it is). If I'm wearing a neckband, well, for 80% of the time it's just going to be around my neck doing nothing, and if I wanna keep it I'd have to bring an actual bag. 4. I just have to charge my case once a week and not worry about the battery. Funny you say neckbands have better battery life. Can they last a week per charge? True wireless just seems much neater to me.

Ever since I got about 3 true wireless earphones because of trends and they all left me feeling disappointed. So I mostly stuck to using that OnePlus neckband. Now today I got a new neckband since my old one broke. It's a cheap one but works really well. And I've now realized neckbands are far more convenient and practical than true wireless.
@OZbibaO5 жыл бұрын
Although I agree (using jaybird Tarah Pros here) and you mentionned all the + sides pretty well, I can't say that "it's not even close". Cables have that tendency to break overtime and that's still an issue honestly. If these jaybirds had a way to replace the cable (and the battery at the same time since it's in the small remote), for like 50$ they would be pretty much perfect. Drivers rarely brake it's always either the battery/wire that dies first. True wireless are also practical for people who use their earphones in very specific ways to complement a headset like 1000X M3 or something. Like using them JUST for the gym. You don't need a very long battery life, a workout rarely lasts more than two hours. and you can just leave the earphones in the gym bag. You always know where they are and the case makes them even easier to carry around in that case. Having both options is good, but I guess both have their advantages, and there are some cheaper alternatives for true wireless from Creative and the Anker that make for pretty compelling products.

I bought one because i noticed wireless Headphones have more battery life than earbuds but almost all of them squish my head when i use it for longger times. So i tried to search for a midpoint between the two then i found that neckband earphones exist.

Agreed with this so much, reason why I just can't transition to true wireless -- as you said, you need to adjust your life to the gadgets. Just like smartwatches feel like a chore; I stick with Hybrid watch as a nice middleground.

Juan, you really spoke the truth in this one, but you missed the most ground, simple, obvious, number 1 cause people diss neck earbuds: THE LOOKS. People wouldn't care less about sound, or even about hygiene, as long as it LOOKS good. It's sad but it's true, and the mobile industry knows it.

But they dont. We used to make fun of douchenozzles on old one ear bluetooth headsets in the flip phone days. TWS doesn't look any better. It's just a display that someone spent more money than they needed to.

JuanBagnell I fully disagree. Neckbands are super ugly and I think most people prefer the clean look of truly wireless. Something like the jaybird with wires connecting both earbuds is still acceptable. Something like the LG tone where u hang a damn plastic around your neck?.. that looks utterly ridiculous. And try using a LG tone in a gym and do some barbell squats... you’d crush the thing. Or even when running where it will hop and bounce around. Been there.. done that. Never again.

I agree with this video 100% because I'm having to borrow my mom's wireless ear buds for right now, because my headset is charging, and one major problem, found out she only charged one of them a little and left the other one out of the case, with mine you just plug in and bam! The whole set is charging. No extras like charging a case or anything, plus who charges one earbud and not both? On top of that it was an act of congress to pair them to my android, when I paired my headset it was just scan, pair, and bam I was connected, with these you have to make sure that both earbuds are in, and that the case is open, and touch and hold them both until they beep, headsets are definitely better with charging and pairing, because I've only got one earbud in because her other one is dead, at least with mine both sides are getting charged with a simple plug in, plus the phrase everyone's using them, I'm a fucking Metalhead, all I listen to is rock and metal, so therefore not everyone likes that music, I think everyone will understand where I'm coming from on that one.

My one fear with neckbands are they lasting less due to broken wires. I don't know which would last longer, if TWS at risk of being more fragile, or neckbands at risk of breaking wires.

I use neckband headphones at work. Specifically the LG Harman kardon platinum. I've been using the same set for around 7 or 8 years with no issues! I use them 5 days a week and over 8 hours per day. I can't believe they just keep going! The form factor is absolutely perfect because I quite often have to pause music or whatever I'm listening to and remove the earpiece. Nothing else is going to allow the same convenience that this design does. I specifically like the retractable cords that attach the earbuds. This keeps them out of the way and keeps them from getting damaged while I'm working. Many neckband designs don't have a way to manage the wires so they are likely to be pulled our or damaged. I recommend them to anybody.

I've watched so many reviews and comparisons and have been strongly debating getting the new galaxy buds plus, but you've just changed my mind with some basic logic that anyone should understand. Seems like the inconvenience of true wireless is just as much so as fully wired. Now the question is, what neckband is best?

I started going wireless with Jaybird years ago. Then I backed the Bragi Dash and later bought the Dash Pro (they still do things Samsung and Apple can't). I made the switch because the wire that went behind my head on the Jaybirds. It would constantly slap my neck when I ran or get pinched between my body and workout equipment causing them to get pulled from my ears mid-set. Yes, the more space in neckband buds lets them use better drivers, but I will sacrifice some audio quality for what is convenient to me. I get annoyed with bone conducting headphones because you can hear what the person is blasting into their skulls. They're just speakers aimed at your head. TL;DR I like the convenience at the gym, they take up less space in my bag, and good truly wireless buds are becoming affordable even from the big name brands.

Just came across this and you're 100% correct. I went true wireless about two year ago with some inexpensive M-Pow. They were only used at the gym on the elliptical, or going for a walk on my lunch break. No damage to them at all, but now they're out of sync with my phone (one plays about a half second in front of the other, even after repairing and cleaning). Dug out my LG Tones for the first time in about three years, and the sound and comfort was so much better.

I use huwawi am61 sports lite .. It's magnetic without call control with nice looking and battery life over 10 hours.I bought another pair as an emergency replacement and gifted one to my cousin . I do not like Apple airpod style.. I can easily lose one and it makes me extra careful . Nick band style is good but one flaw is you have to keep it around your neck all the time, you can't put it back in your pocket.

Finally!!!!! Someone who shares my feelings on true wireless! I have other problems with them too... Lol. But.... Here's the thing... I work in the medical field so technically I'm not really supposed to wear headphones, but there are times when I can... So I need some that I can wear around the neck... Hide inside my scrub top when not in use, be able to use only one ear piece, have a flexible neckband, magnetic buds, be able to answer/puase using the magnet feature and not be too bulky like the u flex. Recommendations?!?! Thanks!

yes please! i've been on the hunt for a good pair for the last few weeks & it feels like companies have abandoned the practical neckband for the flashy true wireless my biggest gripe with the latter is that the media/volume control UI of such a small device, tends to be quite uncomfortable followed very closely by the fact that more space to work with leads to better batteries & hardware for additional features like ANC

This video sums up my entire pent up frustrations about why normal Bluetooth earphones are SO MUCH more CONVENIENT than truly wireless. Though I have to say the hard neckband designs don't look as nice as the normal wire-around-the-neck type akin to the jaybirds. I recently tried out some Galaxy buds for a week after my Anker soundbuds slim earphones died on me, and man I missed being able to just remove the buds from my ears and having them just dangle around my neck where I know where they are; compared to using fine motor controls on my fingertips to place those infernal individual earphone pieces in the charging case (of which I had to remove from my pocket first). Returned the Galaxy buds and planning to get some Aukey epb60 or something because having magnets in them is a pretty important feature on terms of convenience imo, especially when it can auto-pause when it detects when the magnets are engaged.

as someone who is always on the go (while listening to music sometimes), neckbands are more practical. i don't have to do extra steps to take out / put in the earbuds from the case. Just hang in on the neck and it's done. TWS buds will get in my way as i usually wear jeans. And you know how jeans as is. The pockets is not widely open and the case just get in the way. Believe me. i have both of them.

I've had the Sony's SBH20 clipped to my waist for years now. -Best feature about it? I can plug any headphones I want to them. -Why on earth having wired headphones plugged to a device that connects wirelessly to the device in my pocket when I just could conect them directly to my S10e? 'Cause I have them on all day and there's no annoying wires coming from my phone, no risk of forgetting about the cable while getting up and watch the 700 hundred dollars glass sandwhich go from the table to the ground. Coming from this, I wonder: how cool would be to have modular neckbands? Picking from a range of band sizes and battery capacities, and choosing between one driver earphones to three drivers inears could be really nice.

I work stooped over buckets. They're buckets of water on a construction job, they're buckets of chemicals at my maintenance job, they're buckets of food (known as pots and pans) at home in my kitchen. I DO NOT want to go fishing in a bucket, drain, or pot for an earbud that fell out of my ear. I think I will stick with neckband headphones for work. 🤔 True wireless headphones are better for styles that would clash with a neckband. They are also better for an office or hangout spot. Neckbands are more practical overall though.

I fully agree! My ears do not like to hold on to earbuds, they just fall out, and I'd lose a fully wireless pair in no time. Plus better battery life is great. Neckbands are the best way. Now... the question is which pair do I buy to replace the ones that I currently own but are now dying?
@ccroy20015 жыл бұрын
Good points. Are any of the neck band style serviceable. Mainly battery. Right now I use wired because I don’t want yet another thing thrown away because the battery died and can’t be replaced.
@mountaindew2672 жыл бұрын
One note for sound quality is that you get noise from the wires touching things that get transmitted and amplified into your ears. Full wireless doesn't suffer this problem. I'm saying this after I just put on some neckband headphones, and coming from galaxy buds.

Speaking from personal experience, neckband aren't better than TWS when it comes to the gym and working out. You have no idea how annoying jump roping with a neck band is

You should take a look at the EarStudio ES-100 its a bluetooth DAC/AMP device that you can connect your wired headphones to, which connects them to your phone wireless-ly. Plus the app that comes with it is astounding (wich is free, you can download it just to take a look), it offers SO MUCH useful things like audio pass through where you can hear you surroundings, TONS of EQ settings, you can control the amount of output power that is sent to your headphones, and SO MUCH MORE. IMO it offers the best of both worlds! And the device it self has a microphone, volume control, next-last track and also a clip which you can use to use the device while working out or doing whatever. It can also be used with your computer or laptop as a DAC/AMP if you connect it via USB. All that and WAY MORE for 100USD. I highly recommend it.
