I feel like a fairly accomplished sewist, but I didn’t know to STRAIGHTEN a round neckline at the very front. Hence, my first attempt was a rounded V. Thank you for this nugget!

while I occasionally upcycle, that’s not the main type of thing I like to sew.

How do you make alterations to the back neckline? I need the back of the shirts and dresses to come up higher on my neck and in closer to my neck as well
@Mellysews8 ай бұрын
The same way as you do for the front.

Would it be possible in your opinion to alter a slash neck-line into a crew or jewel neckline? Any tips you could give me would be really appreciated. Thank you.
@Mellysews3 жыл бұрын
It would depend, particularly if the pattern is designed for woven fabric. Make the neckline too small and it might not fit over your head.

Thanks for the great explanation. Instead of the facing could I do also a bias tape?
@Mellysews4 жыл бұрын
Sure, but you'd have to adapt the technique I used here obviously.

Maybe this is a stupid question but, do you know how I could turn a cowl neckline into a scoop neck? I recently bought a dress with a cowl neck but I don’t like the neckline and was wondering how I could fix it. Any advice would be great!
@Mellysews Жыл бұрын
So a cowl neckline isn't just a different shape, it also has additional fabric added in. The pattern piece likely looks wider in the front than in the back to create the cowl. So that change isn't as easy, because the additional fabric would need to be removed before changing to a scoop neck. It would probably be easier to just find a different pattern without a cowl.

@@Mellysews it honestly doesn’t need to be a scoop neck if that makes things semi easier, just wanna turn it into any other neckline then what it is lol. If not thank you anyways! your help is much appreciated 🫶
@Mellysews Жыл бұрын
@@satanbaby2928 either way, the extra fabric that forms the drape of the cowl would need to be removed from the pattern, and generally that would be more difficult than just finding a pattern that doesn't have the cowl.

Melly Sews how far down do you draw to make a boatneck shirt? Is it suppose to be a square too?

A hack is someone that does a bad job. You don't do a bad job.
@Mellysews Жыл бұрын
A pattern hack, or hacking a pattern in verb form, is common slang referring to making changes to an existing pattern. Much like a computer hack changes the existing programming on the computer.
