Ever wondered how the Necomimi Brainwave Cat Ears work? Limor Fried and ***** take a pair apart to find out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZTGl4qCitJ5osk

Didn't have a change to hear the video, but it looks exactly same as the ThingGear AM ASIC that they also sell. Got mine from SeeedStudio

The Neurosky chips mostly do a Frequency analysis on the raw sensor voltage and then every frequency band is translated by a magical formula into an emotional state. Theta = relaxed, etc. What is measured is always a cocktail of artefacts, muscle activity (1mV), eye movements (1mV), the fridge in the corner switching (10mV-1V), power lines (10mV-1V) and a tiny amout of EEG (10uV)...

I have seen a demo of the Necomimi used in conjunction with a tail that was dubbed "Shippo". The tail looked like it was connected to the back of the Necomimi. There is a video of it somewhere on the Neurosky website.

I feel ripped off, you knowingly drew me in with Collin wearing the ears and making me want to laugh at his reactions to them and then didn't show him lol

...and I should add: great clip this teardown. Saved me buying it to have a look what's inside!

I believe that this is the ThinkGear chip TGAM1. Google "TGAM1 datasheet" for the datasheet. Also found in MindFlex toys.

Also, hook a bluetooth serial adapter (like the HC-05) to the Rx and Tx lines on the chip and it will work with most of Neurosky's android apps.

Lol thats what I thought too but I think Shippo is a name for tail in Japenese. I could be wrong though

Great stuff :) I don't want to be annoying but some improvements could be done on the "here is...": often when you say that, I have no idea what element you are talking about either because it's not centered or there are multiple elements in the shot.

Would it be possible to do a tear down AND hack video? Like, this is the analog input from the EKG and here we hooked it up to a Flora. Think about [thing] and turn the LEDs on. Or something like that. It'd be really cool.

I would love to hook that EEG board up to an arduino and get it to output a graph in Processing.

I can't help but snicker at the image of Collin wearing the ears. Made the video for me.

I wonder how these nuero chips were made and if it's possible to customize them

This video was so great if only it had a bit more hacking and a LOT more Collin. No offence ladies i really loved the video but i would like Collin hacking all these things. :P

So... this thing reads your brain waves... to move cat ears on your head. Wow. Poor Collin, I bet he's burnt out on making videos, and yet everybody constantly begs him to make more. He's like the Kurt Cobain of electronics videos., only without all the drugs.

These seem like overly gimmicky pieces of malarkey. I'm not a hardware engineer, though I do try, but it really seems like Limor is going easy on the designers of this product. Has she ever met a circuit board she doesn't like? I'm sure sure that she just tries to keep it positive but after watching a bunch of break downs, I really would have expected more criticism. Am I just too accustomed to negativity and criticism from my software development world or is anyone else wanting her to go all Luke Skywalker on the Millennium Falcon and be like, "What a piece of junk!".
