In my opinion, "If you (I) go north, then..." is better as a translation of the lyric "kita e mukaeba". Or, in a slightly broken expression, it means also "Go north! Why not? ". It seems to be used in either meaning. ( Trivia: In Japanese, the subject (I, you, we etc.) is often omitted. It is guessed generally by context.
