You're all making me cry now. Radio 3 played music of his on Monday and that brought tears to my eyes aswell. A wonderfull composer who will be very sadly missed. I don't know what's happened to the Spagetti Western Orchestra but it would be nice if they got back together again and did a tribute concert for him.

I agree. They did the same thing to Chaplin. I think Hollywood is afraid of successful people. They fear their own. I mean come on. The man did over 400 soundtracks for them. You're going to tell me they were all flops? Yet you always hear his songs in commercials, TV shows, even in THEIR movies. Call me old fashion but to me, this is called Hypocrisy.

Only Americans can be stars in Hollywood. Foreigners are not welcome. Mediocre works get more Oscars if they are American, while they don't even want to acknowledge foreign world stars. The Oscar is an internal award, with which they reward themselves. That is why it is overrated.

@68blues

Black Country Gaz ...if you are a musician you should already know how to bend a harmonica note. But since you are a musician, what key of harmonica is being used here. Is it a Marine Band or a Special 20? Hmmm could possibly be chromatic......do you think it is?
@blackcountrygaz7080
@blackcountrygaz7080 3 жыл бұрын
@@68blues I play the guitar and sing, not really a Harmonica lol. I have a set of blues Diatonic harps that I have used in a SKA band, but never needed to bend. It's a tricky technique, all to do with focusing a jet of air with your tongue well forward then seamlessly drawing the air in and altering the shape off the inside of your mouth, and pulling with your diaphragm. Hard to explain but it just happened and was weird. Seemed really hard but now after a couple of days it's very easy, but you have to have the knack. I guess singing all my life helps. I use a G harp, hole 6 plus bend and hole 5. You have to suck air in too not blow, crazy but rewarding, om not perfect but still pleased with the sound so far.

Once Upon a Time in the West was (is) something almost ethereal. It's just about the only film I've ever watched where for days afterwards, your mind keeps tugging you back to it. In my opinion it is THE masterpiece that nothing so far, has ever touched. Yet I could not begin to explain why this is so. Of course the stunning, haunting music combined with breath taking cinematography made it unforgettable but it was more than that. It was just incredibly special.

Harmonica/mouth-harp: better than the original. But when comparing the guitar in this rendition, it lacks the nasty distortion that defined the original recordings. 'Hard to get really crunchy, ripping distortion from a Gretsch, which has pickups that accentuate the fuller tones and sustain of a hollow-body instrument. I'm guessing the 1968 version, under Morricone's direction, used a Fender or Gibson, with more powerful bridge pickups, and an amp with adequate overdrive to deliver the dissonant tones that convey the seething vengefulness of Charles Bronson's character.

A Ennnio Morricone. Don Nicola Salvatore Colangelo

Pure goose bumps !.....I love this moment when the guitar starts 1:11....and what a beautiful ending 3:55 The Maestro Ennio Morricone was an absolute genius in inserting certain musical instruments, creating the tension and drama of the scenes by inserting particular sounds, "special effects" that only he could do.

I really cannot believe that you are no more. Rest in Piece, Maestro Ennio Morricone. When my father first introduced me to the Dollar's trilogy, I could not believe my ears. I was listening to a style of melody and arrangement that I had never experienced before. And the feeling of wonder is still intact, years later. Thanks for showing us how less is more, how there is more to music than huge orchestral arrangements.

I've listened to EVERY version of this song on YT, and this is without a doubt the BEST I've ever heard, including the one by the great Ennio Morricone himself! The tempo was totally correct (a "first"), the engineering was studio perfect, even the electric guitar tone was spot-on. This is clearly the frontrunner of all of Morricone's scores yet. Kudos.

Hollywood is Hollywood my friend. How on earth can someone make a movie better than them?. You are correct in every word you say - alas we all know what we like to watch and it appears to Hollywood's dismay. In my opinion this was the best movie ever.

I can hear so many things in this piece.. There is sadness, memories of a lost past, there is despair, bitter sorrow, anger fading, pain, there is something visceral in it, coming from the guts but it also communicates strength, courage and resolve in the face of the unavoidable, it lifts your soul to reflect about your final breath, your last moments, God's final Judgement incoming and what do you really live and stand for, the human condition and death. This piece is absolutely magnificent, a masterpiece.
